The Place-based Food Systems Manager will play a leading role in the development of The Food Foundation’s local policy and project work in 3 interconnected ways:

In the first instance, you will play a leading role in our place-based work in Kent and Birmingham, in particular focused on improving the health and sustainability of menus and business offerings through the promotion of beans, pulses and legumes. Our advice services provide essential support on issues like benefits, housing, discrimination, access, and more — but our work doesn’t stop there. We use what we learn from people’s experiences to challenge injustice, influence policy, and campaign for change.

About the Role

As Advice Manager, you’ll take a strategic lead on developing our advice service to ensure it is accessible and high-quality, and also actively challenge the root causes of inequality. The Advice Manager will have wide ranging responsibilities for the performance, quality assurance and development of internal advice services and will be responsible for achieving and evidencing high quality positive outcomes for service users.

You will Manage our advice teams: Information Navigation, Benefits Advice, Money Advice and our benefits advice contract with South West London and St Georges. Our Campaigns and Communications Manager will play a key role in identifying strategic opportunities to make change through empowering and engaging our clients and local network, building and communicating a strong case for change. You will also play an important leadership role within LRMN, sitting on the management team.

Key responisibilties include:

• Leading the development and delivery of media, communications and campaign strategies and activities within LRMN to establish and maintain a consistently high and positive media profile.
• Working closely with LRMN’s Fundraising team in producing core messages and other relevant documents to support LRMN’s fundraising strategy and activities.
• Enhancing visibility and reputation to attract funding, future staff and policy changes.
• Effectively managing the Campaigns and Communications Officer and Community Engagement Officer, ensuring relevant assistance is provided to meet targets and goals.
• Developing a core set of impact evidence and relevant marketing materials that will promote the work of LRMN, show its success and the experience of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.
• Ensuring engagement of clients in influencing local and national campaigns with their lived experience.
• Provide strategic lead on LRMN’s Borough of Sanctuary campaign, in Lewisham, Greenwich, and beyond, and other local and national campaigns.
• Developing strategic partnerships with key local, regional, and national partners in shaping and promoting campaigns most relevant to LRMN’s client base.

East London Students' Union is a progressive charity that supports around 25,000 students that study at the University of East London. We are based in one of the most diverse boroughs in Europe and our membership proudly reflects the communities where we are based.

Our purpose is to support and empower our students by representing their views and providing a range of supportive services, events and activities to make university life the amazing experience it should be. Our Docklands offices, meeting rooms and reception area were fully refurbished last year. In Stratford, our new with sitting-around areas, reception, performance rooms and meetings room opened. In January, we opened our first café, on our Docklands campus. Our second café is currently under construction and will open on our Stratford campus in mid-September.

We're now working to build a students' union that champions their aspirations and can deliver what's needed to make a difference. We're excited about this and have invested in several new posts to give us the expertise needed. We're in the last year of our strategic plan and will be starting work on our next phase later this year.

As our advice and rights manager, you will be responsible for managing advice provision, providing impartial advice on academic matters to students and supporting the delivery of rights-based campaigns. You will be required to identify trends and produce reports using data emerging from casework, and to use data to inform effective delivery of campaigns by student officers, other student representatives and staff.
