Role Title: External Communications and Advocacy Lead

This is a rare opportunity to shape the new communications function in a thriving cancer charity, establishing Shine as the go-to charity supporting all young adults living with any type of cancer in the UK.

Responsible to: Co-CEOs

Location: Hybrid, with two to three days per week at Shine’s offices in Blackheath, Southeast London. 

Hours & salary:  Full time (35 hours per week).  Salary range is £39,000 - £43,000pa depending on experience.  This is a permanent job with a three-month probation period.

We are a small and impactful national charity. Our goal is that every adult in their 20s, 30s and 40s diagnosed with cancer to know they’re not alone, and to have the support, knowledge, and confidence to navigate whatever cancer throws their way.

Main purpose of the role:

A rare opportunity to shape the new communications function in a thriving cancer charity and to establish its reputation as the go-to charity supporting all young adults living with any type of cancer in the UK.

As part of our growth plan, we are delighted to be hiring our first Communications and Advocacy Lead. Working on our external communications strategy to build authority and be the go-to voice for younger adults (aged 20 to 49 years) living with cancer, this person will be responsible for managing all external communications. In addition, will work closely with the rest of the Shine team to ensure consistent external messaging.

Key Responsibilities

These include:

● Develop implementation plans to support Shine’s communications strategy to build authority in the cancer support space.

● Responsible for developing the Shine narrative, brand voice, and talking points to support external stories and campaigns, and to co-create fundraising messages with the Fundraising Manager and Fundraising Consultant.

● Responsible for all external communications with media including national and regional outlets, print and broadcast, digital channels and titles read by healthcare professionals.

● Supervision of the social media output from Shine, ensuring consistency with the overall communications plan. 

●       Ability to represent Shine at external stakeholder meetings.

●    Working closely with the Shine team to raise Shine’s profile through advocacy activities in the cancer community and healthcare professionals.

● Work with Shine co-CEOs to develop their external profiles through thought-leadership, speaker and advocacy platforms.

Person Specification

Essential skills:

● Ability to develop multi-channel communications plans, using social, digital and traditional media platforms

● Knowledge of UK health media including health correspondents and reporters for national news outlets (print & TV and radio)

● A good eye for design, with the ability to manage, develop and implement brand guidelines

● Experience of working with media databases and press release distribution services

● Excellent writing skills and experience of writing materials for media

● Ability to create media angles and stories from data and third-party content

● Identify platforms for Shine thought-leadership, particularly for the co-CEOs

● Strong skills in using online technology platforms including Google workspace, Canva, YouTube and MS Office.

Desirable skills:

● Experience of working alongside expert suppliers including design and content, public relations agencies and consultants. 

● Experience of managing projects remotely, including using tools such as Asana.

Core competencies:

● Empathy - understanding of the issues faced by the young adults (20-49 yrs.) living with cancer

● Attention to detail -must deliver accurate content to a high standard

● Self-directed - must be able to work independently and make strategic recommendations to Shine co-CEOs on all aspects of Shine communications

● Collaborative - ability to represent Shine and work in partnership with third parties including patient groups, medical professional groups and industry.

Immigration Caseworker/Solicitor

Salary: SCP scale 35, £44,711 pro rata

Hours of work: 21 Hours per week

The post-holder will provide advice and casework in the category of immigration, nationality and asylum law. This project will focus on casework for domestic violence victims referred by Local Authorities and other partners across London. They will also work closely with partner agencies providing consultancy and taking referrals of individuals and families needing immigration advice. The post holder must also undertake training and provide second tier support for community agencies.

IKWRO - Women’s Rights Organisation is a registered charity (number 1151507) which supports Middle Eastern women and girls living in the UK who are facing “honour” based violence, forced marriage, domestic violence or female genital mutilation.

As well as providing support to individual women and girls, we run training for professionals and campaigns for better laws and policies to protect women’s rights. We are recruiting an Immigration caseworker/solicitor, who is able to model skills in safely engaging women based on mutual collaboration, trust and empowerment.

The Individual Giving Officer will work with the Individual and Legacy Manager to provide an exceptional level of stewardship to donors.

The role will work to increase income from a diverse range of products including our online shop, funeral collections, stewardship journeys and individual gifts. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, empathy for those affected by bowel cancer, and a desire to show the impact of donations are all essential. You’ll also be a team player and capable of organising and managing a busy workload.

Today, 12 children and young people will be diagnosed with cancer. We’ll stop at nothing to make sure they get the right care and support at the right time.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Marketing Manager to lead a team of two to deliver exceptional and effective brand and marketing activity.

You’ll be responsible for the development and delivery of brand and marketing campaigns for key programmes, projects and products, aligned to our organisational priorities.

You will collaborate with colleagues across the charity, external suppliers and children and young people with cancer - and their families - to use marketing and communications approaches to achieve business goals. You’ll also drive greater public knowledge of the charity, leading to deeper levels of engagement and greater action.

What will I be doing?

• Develop and deliver audience and insight-led integrated marketing campaigns for key programmes, projects and products.
• Manage and develop the Brand and Marketing Communications Officers to deliver great work.
• Support the on-going development of our audience personas and engagement work to enable effective journeys and high-quality experiences for all our audiences.
• Ensure all content and activity is representative of the people and communities we support, championing accessibility and inclusion in everything we do.

The Fundraising and Stewardship Officer plays a vital role in supporting the long-term sustainability and growth of our organisation’s charitable mission. This role is vital to the growth of our income, building relationships with donors and funders, and ensuring their long-term support through excellent stewardship, prospect research and strategic pipeline development

This role exists to develop and deliver effective fundraising campaigns, build and maintain strong relationships with donors and funders, and ensure exceptional stewardship that encourages continued and increased support. Working closely with the senior leadership team and wider organisation, the officer will contribute to a culture of philanthropy, helping to secure vital income through a diverse mix of streams such as individual giving, legacies, corporate partnerships, community fundraising and trusts and foundations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Develop and deliver a multi-channel individual giving operational plan that supports donor acquisition, retention, and re-engagement, across online and offline platforms.
• Take ownership of a portfolio of lower-value (up to £5k) trusts and foundations, including community foundations, and contribute to the development of applications for mid-tier funders in collaboration with the Income Generation and Fundraising Lead.
• Maintain and update the income generation pipeline, tracking donor and funder stages, communications, deadlines and actions, and supporting internal reporting.
• Undertake regular prospect research to identify potential new individual donors, corporate partners, community groups, and trusts/foundations, maintaining a prospect tracker with recommendations for cultivation.

• Manage the processing and stewardship of all individual donations and enquiries – including prompt and appropriate acknowledgements, follow-up, and personalised engagement activity.
• Maintain and oversee the fundraising CRM/database (e.g. Donorfy, Raiser's Edge, Salesforce), including updating records, running reports, creating segments, and supporting targeted communications and mailouts.

About Bright Futures UK

Bright Futures UK supports children and young people aged 5 to 24 whose education has been disrupted due to serious long-term physical or mental health conditions. We offer online one-to-one tutoring, befriending, and mentoring programmes, as well as group programmes including hospital workshops, industry events, and advocacy actions initiatives. Working in close partnership with hospitals, families, and other services, we ensure that children and young people experiencing health-related challenges are not left behind.

Role Overview

This is a key role in the delivery of our online personalised programme. The Coordinator will oversee the children and young people referral pathway, acting as the first point of contact for new referrals and guiding children, young people, and their families, educators, or hospital contacts through every stage of the onboarding process.

You will be responsible for gathering detailed and sensitive information about each young person’s health, education, and wellbeing, to ensure the support they receive is tailored, appropriate, and trauma-informed. Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records is a central part of this role. You will also line manage the Personalised Programme Coordinators, work closely with the wider Programme and Volunteer Teams, and play a key role in external outreach and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Referral and Programme Oversight

• Act as the lead contact for all incoming referrals, including those from hospitals, statutory services, community organisations, and families
• Hold safe, compassionate, and confidential conversations with CYPs to understand their needs and gather relevant information around education, physical health, and mental wellbeing
• Ensure all referral documentation, risk assessments, consent forms, and safeguarding procedures are completed to a high standard and in line with organisational policy
• Maintain strong working relationships with referral partners, providing updates and sharing appropriate feedback
• Oversee the matching of referred CYP to suitable volunteers in collaboration with the Volunteer Senior Coordinator
• Monitor programme delivery through regular check-ins with Personalised Programme Coordinators to provide support and identify emerging risks or additional needs

The Role

We are looking for a dynamic, relationally driven Relationship Manager to join our team and take the lead in expanding our work with churches across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a heart for ministry and a passion for strengthening relationships within Christian communities.

You will play a key role in:

• Cultivating and managing relationships with churches and church networks
• Encouraging churches to adopt and run the Achord Course
• Providing ongoing support and training to church leaders and volunteers
• Growing awareness of Achord's mission and resources within the Christian sector
• Play an active role in ensuring the charity’s long-term financial and operational viability.

This role is ideal for a confident, self-starting individual—possibly with a background in sales or ministry—who is eager to build lasting partnerships and see local churches equipped to make a lasting impact in the lives of their congregants and their communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and connect with churches interested in strengthening relationships in their congregations and communities
• Present the Achord vision and course offerings through in-person visits, online meetings and church events.
• Develop strong partnerships with church leaders, providing support from onboarding to implementation.
• Deliver introductory sessions, training, and occasional speaking engagements.
• Maintain accurate records of leads, contacts, and partner progress using CRM tools.
• Collaborate with the marketing team to create church-facing communications and resources.
• Gather feedback and impact stories to help shape future offerings
• Represent Achord at conferences, exhibitions, and relevant Christian networks
• Deliver agreed church sign-up and growth targets through proactive outreach and partnership development, supporting the charity’s long-term sustainability and self-funding goals.

Person Specification

Essential

• A confident, proactive communicator with excellent relational and networking skills
• A self-starter with the ability to work independently and meet growth targets
• Passionate about healthy relationships and aligned with Achord’s mission and Christian ethos
• Experience in a client-facing, relationship-building or sales role
• Understanding of the church landscape and comfortable engaging with church leaders
• Strong presentation and public speaking skills
• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple relationships and projects simultaneously
• Experience with CRMs or client tracking tools, data input, GDPR best practice
• Proficient ITC skills: email, database, Microsoft Office applications
• Flexibility to attend evening and weekend events or church services if required

• Previous work in a faith-based charity or organisation

Within the Marketing & Commercial department sits the Digital team. Responsible for Battersea’s digital output, our goal is to drive innovation and impact online. We manage Battersea’s website, and lead its digital products, campaigns and advertising - all to increase awareness of Battersea’s work and engage people with the need to support our dogs and cats.

What the job involves

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and it’s harming too many lives. At Prostate Cancer UK, one of our top priorities is funding research that leads to real change. It’s vital we do our best to make sure this research makes a meaningful difference to men’s lives, and that’s where you come in.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Research Impact Officer to help us understand, communicate and accelerate the impact of the research we fund.

This role sits in the Research Impact and Engagement Team. You’ll be working at the heart of how we track the progress of completed research projects, share success stories and support researchers in turning their findings into ways to improve the lives of men affected by prostate cancer. You’ll take responsibility for half of our portfolio of completed research projects. This means building strong relationships with funded researchers, understanding how their work is progressing, and supporting them to achieve meaningful impact for men affected by prostate cancer. Using your scientific knowledge and communication skills you’ll translate research outputs into clear, engaging stories to demonstrate the value of our work. Using your understanding of the steps needed to take research from bench to bedside you’ll help monitor the success of our completed research portfolio.

What we want from you

This role is a vital part of how we deliver on our mission, to stop prostate cancer harming men and their families. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about research making an impact and hold a bio-medical science degree (or a degree in a related subject), with research experience. You can understand complex scientific information presented in reports, publications or presentations and explain these complex concepts in a simple and engaging way to a range of audiences including peers within the charity, as well as men affected by the disease. You’ll be motivated to consistently perform to the highest standards, with an eagerness to trial new ideas, identify new opportunities and solve problems.

In any one day you could be helping develop an impact case study for the website, interviewing researchers for project updates, supporting delivery of a research event, or using social media to disseminate the work of our funded researchers. Your primary focus will be on the impact of our funded research, working closely with colleagues in the Research Impact and Engagement Team, as well as working closely with our research funding team, and with other teams across the charity.
