Oxfam's Mirfield Shop is currently looking for Volunteers to help Oxfam’s fight to support the world’s most vulnerable communities during the current global pandemic.
We’re looking for volunteers who can give 4-8 hours (or more!) of their time in the shop each week, and we’re excited to welcome brand new volunteers to our stores in 2022!
Location: Oxfam Mirfield, Foldhead Mills, Huddersfield Road, Mirfield. WF14 8BE
Opening hours: Monday - Saturday (9-5)

We have a range of roles and some more specialist roles. We like to give volunteers an opportunity to try a range of areas before they find something that suits them. You might become a Shop Volunteer, Bookshop Volunteer or Music Shop Volunteer. Or, you might find yourself in a more specific role such as a Social Media Volunteer, an Admin/Finance Support Volunteer, or even a Lead Volunteer.
Whatever your skills or interests, there’s something for everyone…
Specific Shop Requirements: Right now, we're looking for additional volunteer support on Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays - as well as volunteers who can help out with our Online Shop; researching, pricing & listing donations.

Your time will make a huge difference. We estimate one four-hour shift will, on average, provide enough income to enable Oxfam to provide life-saving handwashing facilities for 81 people.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Marie Curie has over 160 Retail shops across the UK which are full of gifts, clothes and even the odd vintage gem. They are vital to the work we do in raising funds to provide care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a volunteer who has a passion for selling online products and has a keen eye for all things unique. This is a key position supporting the work of our retail operations and will help to raise even more vital funds.
As an eBay Volunteer you will be providing invaluable support in the operation of our eBay shop by photographing, listing and preparing items for delivery. Part of the role will be to research items and check their value to ensure we are always achieving the best price. You will also need to respond to any customer queries both by telephone and online.
We are looking for volunteers who have excellent organisational skills and a keen eye for detail. An interest in retail trends and social media would be an advantage but are not essential. Previous customer service experience would be desirable.
We will provide you with all the training you need plus a friendly and fun place to volunteer
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Researching and identifying items that could be sold on eBay, including researching the value of products to ensure best price is obtained
- Photographing items and uploading images
- Cataloguing and listing items ready for sale on eBay
- Fulfilling and packing orders
- Posting out orders promptly to the buyer
- Answer any queries from bidders/shoppers both online and via telephone

A Wellbeing Buddy is a volunteer who is matched with someone who has been referred to us for support for a period of 12 weeks and volunteers with them in person.
Face-to-face Wellbeing Buddies meet their match each week with an overall aim of helping them to build confidence and improve their quality of life. This might involve going for walks with the person, going on public transport with them, assisting them with food shopping or just offering some company in their normal routine.
The time you give to volunteering can be decided by you, as long as you can commit to at least once a week for 12 weeks with one person.
Please note that at the moment, to become a volunteer with us you will need to have some availability during the working week (9-5 Monday-Friday). Wellbeing Volunteers are not able to do this role during evenings and weekends. This is so that there are staff members available for support.
What do you need to become a Wellbeing Buddy?
You don't necessarily need to have experience in a role like this, but any experience in offering objective support to people would be beneficial. We are mainly looking for kind-hearted, personable, reliable individuals who love to chat and can give a small amount of time each week to help someone who needs it. You will be given training and support from the volunteer coordinator whenever needed.
To volunteer, you must:
- Be over the age of 18
- Be able to travel within your local area, whether by public transport, Beryl bike or driving
- Have access to the internet to use our volunteer database
- Undergo a DBS check (free to you)
- Complete the necessary training
What do you get out of it?
Volunteering with us will give you a chance to develop your skills and experience in empathy and active listening, as well as supporting and safeguarding people. We can offer you a rewarding opportunity to help empower people to live their best possible lives, a way of meeting other volunteers and likeminded people and social events for volunteers. Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity and membership association for limbless serving and ex-service men and women and their dependants.
We help all wounded servicemen and women who have lost limbs, the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.
We are looking for a Volunteer to help the Fundraising Team with office tasks. You will be providing practical, administrative and research support across the team. We’re a small and friendly team operating at a national level. Your work will help provide excellent donor care to our supporters, as well as assisting with the smooth running of our office and fundraising activities.

Plateful Café works to relieve poverty and isolation amongst refugees, asylum seekers and ethnic minorities in Lewisham. Our commitment is to reach the most vulnerable people in our community and open a pathway to employment for people who have asylum here. Refugees will benefit from workshops, training skills and knowledge relevant for the catering industry. As a small charity it is important to share information and updates through our communications and social media content, to help us fundraise and grow. The website is a key part of Plateful Café, raising awareness about the barriers to work for refugees as well as helping to share our delicious products with a broad network. Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference.
As a Young Volunteer, you will gain invaluable real-life experience in the charity and retail sector whilst making a positive difference to those affected by cancer. Volunteer work is a great way to boost your CV, helps on University, College or Sixth form applications or to simply lift your confidence and gain new skills!
There are lots of different roles to choose from. If you wanted to gain hands on customer service skills, or if you have a particular interest in Books, or Media etc, we have something to suit every interest in our Charity Shops.
We are now taking on anyone aged 16 and over and 14 and over if you are part of Duke of Edinburgh or Welsh Baccalaureate.
What will I be doing?
Activities will be largely determined by the type of volunteering you would like to undertake, some examples are:
Interacting with shop customers, making them feel welcome and answering queries
Sorting and displaying donations alongside our Retail Assistants
Working alongside our Upcycle Creators to transform donated clothes and accessories into unique and special pieces
Assisting our Visual Merchandisers to create engaging shop window displays
What skills do I need?
As a Young Volunteer, no prior experience or skills are required!
We simply ask that you:
Show a keen initiative to learn and get involved
Display a friendly and kind attitude
How much time do I need to commit?
We will do our best to work around any commitments you have, like school, part time jobs or hobbies. We offer long-term placements or one-off work experiences; please specify your availability and how many hours you would like to offer in either you’re application form or an email.

If you can spare a few hours a week, or a couple of hours occasionally, we’d love you to join our volunteer team.
Are you calm, collected and happy to chat on the phone? Join the volunteer team at our new brislington furniture store. With support from the shop team, you will be the first point of contact for customers, helping them with any phone or online enquiries, arranging collections of donations via our local van teams and explaining our Gift Aid scheme. You will also be using our online collections request system to process online collection booking requests. This is a busy front of house role for those who like to be in the thick of it and makes a huge difference in helping us continue to fund lifesaving research.
Typical tasks include:
· Dealing with face-to-face, phone and online enquiries, supported by the team
· Reception and front of house duties, helping around the cashier desk
· Completing administration procedures accurately
· Arranging collections of donations via our local van teams
