The team

Business Energy Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government to provide free, impartial support and access to funding to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) save energy, carbon and money. As Scottish businesses try to overcome the twin challenges of high energy prices and playing their part in reducing carbon emissions, our work is more important than ever.

The role     

• You will be the first point of contact for SMEs contacting Business Energy Scotland so your work will be vital in helping them start their energy saving process. After your initial contact with the business, you will forward enquiries to other members of the Business Energy Scotland team who will provide in-depth technical support.

• You will provide administrative support across all aspects of the service to ensure that programme outputs are delivered effectively and efficiently.

What you’ll do

• Answer initial telephone, online and email enquiries from businesses. Response templates will be available, and you will take note of key information.

• Provide administrative support by recording key information on a range of IT systems.

• After you receive an initial enquiry, you will hand over the case to another member of the Business Energy Scotland team who will organise further technical support for the business.

About the role

You will be responsible for planning and organising a calendar of events for our team to attend, from shopping centres to country shows, high streets to our reserves, and everything in between, so that they can inspire members of the public to become members of the RSPB.

Our aim is to inspire external partners about our attendance at their events or venues. We are looking for someone who is a confident relationship builder with excellent telephone and email manners and communication and negotiation skills. You must have impeccable organisational skills, a keen eye for detail, and be able to manage several tasks at once, recording all key details on our CRM database system daily to ensure that our team of Membership Fundraisers have everything they need to attend their events and venues.

You will be part of a successful and energetic team covering the whole UK. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the country. This position can be conducted from home, however, occasional travel, including to a local office, reserve or elsewhere in the United Kingdom, will be required.

The role

As Community Engagement Officer you will play a key role in ensuring the Foundation achieves its objectives of engaging with and increasing physical activity levels amongst the four key priority groups facing the greatest inequalities: low socio-economic groups, women and girls, disabled people and people with long term health conditions, and culturally diverse communities. This will predominantly be achieved through the critical support you will provide to our ambitious PlayZones Programme, as we continue to roll the programme out across priority areas of the Country.

We have an ambition to deliver in excess of 200 PlayZone facilities by 2025. To realise this ambition, we’re going to focus on investing in safe, inclusive, and accessible facilities in communities with the greatest need. We will tackle inequalities in physical activity levels and create inclusive opportunities for our priority groups to become active through recreational formats of football and other sports and activities.

With a great deal to do, the role will be pivotal in working with local groups to support them through the application process, and to ensure high quality projects are being developed based on local community need.

The role sits within the Football Foundation’s Delivery Team, the team responsible for strategic identification and capital project delivery, reporting to the Community Engagement Lead and with responsibility for a portfolio of PlayZone programme areas within one of the Delivery Team geographical regions.

What are we looking for?

You must be educated to HND/Degree standard, or with the equivalent experience, with knowledge of how sports development can be used for community benefit. Your knowledge of place-based working and how to best reach and engage with local communities will be key for this role, as well as your understanding of the inequalities that exist in supporting active lives across socio economic groups, women & girls, individuals with a disability or a long-term health condition, and culturally diverse communities. You will be aware of and have experience of dealing with the operations and challenges faced by community organisations, charities, and the voluntary sector.

You must be highly organised, with working knowledge of different project management techniques and experience of managing multiple projects at the same time. While not essential, experience of producing robust reports and of using dashboards to monitor the progress of projects would be useful.

Job Purpose
Your legacy will be a tangible impact on slowing down climate change, helping nature recover and creating social impact by leading on landowner and stakeholder engagement for the Lower Chew Landscape Recovery project that will see thousands of acres of local land managed in harmony with nature. You will join a fast-growing organisation that started in 2019 with four volunteers and has grown to a staff team of thirteen (which will double over 2024), over 1,000 volunteers and ownership of 170 acres (soon to be 600 acres) of land that will grow woodlands of over 160,000 trees.

The project
Landscape Recovery is one of Defra’s three environmental land management schemes. Avon Needs Trees has been awarded development phase funding for Landscape Recovery in the Lower Chew. This is a unique opportunity to help co-design nature’s recovery and social impact at a landscape scale. The project will engage existing landowners and managers across over 867 hectares of land in the Lower Chew, an area where good quality but fragmented woodland provides a basis for woodland connectivity and large-scale woodland creation, as part of a mosaic of grassland and woodland habitat. This locally-cherished landscape of rolling farmland on the edge of Bristol is the strategic setting for delivering local environmental and social priorities. Avon Needs Trees woodland projects include two Wiltshire Woodlands, the Great Avon Wood, Ed Woods, and the upcoming Lower Chew Forest.

Main responsibilities
● Join and help to lead our journey to discover the increased impact that private finance can bring to nature’s recovery
● Become our in-house expert on the local natural capital market and other forms of bringing private finance into nature’s recovery, including identifying and building relationships with potential future partners
● Being a strong advocate, internally and externally, for the landscape recovery project and the benefits it will deliver
● Leading on the delivery of the blended finance and business model for landscape recovery project, including:
      ○ Baselining agricultural finances
      ○ Finance model design, development and implementation
      ○ Landowner consultation on blended finance and business model
      ○ Developing a framework for natural capital
      ○ Ensuring legal agreements are compatible with blended finance models

Specific responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

• Work effectively with others to develop funding proposals for CSE projects.
• Lead the response to competitive Invitations to Tender, which require a specific and timely response to a client’s brief and the ability to highlight and sell relevant CSE strengths and expertise.
• Support our development process by giving direction, supervision, and support to all contributing staff.
• Work with delivery teams and colleagues to set project budgets, costing work accurately using CSE’s development and financial tools.
• Ensure effective set up of new projects and facilitate the handover when a project bid has a successful outcome.
• Ensure appropriate quality checks are carried out on all proposals.

Your legacy will be a tangible impact on slowing down climate change, helping nature recover and creating social impact by leading on landowner and stakeholder engagement for the Lower Chew Landscape Recovery project that will see thousands of acres of local land managed in harmony with nature.

You will join a fast-growing organisation that started in 2019 with four volunteers and has grown to a staff team of thirteen (which will double over 2024), over 1,000 volunteers and ownership of 170 acres (soon to be 600 acres) of land that will grow woodlands of over 160,000 trees.

You will also provide light touch impact and knowledge inputs to Avon Needs Trees’ other woodland projects which include two Wiltshire Woodlands, the Great Avon Wood, Ed Woods, and the upcoming Lower Chew Forest.

The project
Landscape Recovery is one of Defra’s three environmental land management schemes. Avon Needs Trees has been awarded development phase funding for Landscape Recovery in the Lower Chew. This is a unique opportunity to help co design nature’s recovery and social impact at a landscape scale.

The project will engage existing landowners and managers across over 867 hectares of land in the Lower Chew, an area where good quality but fragmented woodland provides a basis for woodland connectivity and large-scale woodland creation, as part of a mosaic of grassland and woodland habitat. This locally-cherished landscape of rolling farmland on the edge of Bristol is the strategic setting for delivering local environmental and social priorities.

Main responsibilities
● You will make sure our amazing work in the Lower Chew and beyond creates maximum impact and that this is monitored, available and well communicated.This includes:
      ○ Putting in place monitoring and evaluation plans, systems and tools to monitor our ecological, economic and social impact
      ○ Identifying and highlighting our impact, for example gathering case studies on our human impact
      ○ Working with other team members to ensure our impact is communicated in a clear and concise way
      ○ Making our impact data available quickly and easily
      ○ Increasing our impact by being on top of emerging research, techniques and data to improve what we do

About the role 

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sustrans as part of the Policy and Public Affairs team, during an election year, delivering a number of vital pieces of research designed to improve walking, wheeling and cycling and transport more broadly.  

As the Policy Officer, you will lead on delivering two key policy projects for Sustrans with support from our Head of Policy and Senior Policy Officer. You will help develop evidence, policy and practice working closely with colleagues to maximise long-term opportunities to help increase transport choice for people.

Emmaus Bristol is a local charity, working to help people out of homelessness. The work we do here changes lives.

This is a new role for Emmaus Bristol. Through our five-year-planning process we identified a new staffing
structure that will allow our charity to thrive and to grow. The Head of Resources is needed so that the core organisation runs smoothly, and policies, processes and systems allow the team to do their jobs efficiently and effectively. This will be crucial as we develop new streams of work, and help more people out of homelessness or into work.

The Head of Resources therefore, will have a key role to play in making Emmaus Bristol an effective charity.
