Croydon Almshouses is the oldest charity in Croydon. For over 550 years, they have been supporting people who experience the impact of poverty. Since 1447 they have offered almshouses, including Elis David Almshouses, a modern purpose-built block of 55 almshouses in South Croydon. For the last 40 years, they have also awarded grants to community groups and individuals of all ages across Croydon who are in need, or facing distress or hardship, and to local and national organisations which help them.

At the heart of everything is 'community'. This is an exciting time to join Croydon Almshouses as their 2024-2028 strategy Do More, Do Better aims to take them into the next chapter by expanding operations to enhance impact in local communities.

The role

The Executive Assistant to CEO & Governance Lead will provide support to the Chief Executive Officer to fulfil her responsibilities and enhance her effectiveness. This will also include working closely with the Board of Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team.

Key responsibilities

• Executive Support & Diary Management: Manage the CEO's diary, prepare for meetings, maintain action logs, and provide proactive support in work planning.
• Governance & Administration: Organise and service Board, Committee, and staff meetings, including agendas, minute-taking, follow-ups on actions, ensuring compliance with governing documents and charity law. The role will line manage a Senior Administrator and facilitate trustee recruitment, induction and development.
• Safeguarding and Data Protection: Ensure data protection and safeguarding legislation are adhered to, embedding law in policies/procedures (training provided).
• Operations & HR Management: Oversee office operations, supplier contracts, data protection compliance, HR functions, and staff development.
• Project & Budget Management: Supports and sometimes leads projects, manages a small budget, and ensures cost-effective procurement of services and equipment.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Significant experience of administration, particularly servicing a Board and Committees
• Significant experience in providing support to a senior executive, preferably as an EA
• Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
• Exceptional organisation skills and attention to detail
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office

In this key role you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Negotiating Officer to manage and support our stewards, safety and equality representative networks across West Midlands and part of Cheshire, advising them in providing individual and collective industrial relations support to members, working both in and outside of the NHS. You will also be expected to spend approximately 25% of your time, managing cases from across the UK, but predominantly from nearby regions.

The postholder will work in collaboration with other health trade unions across the region.

You will work with the CSP regional team to recruit and organise members, influence on local workforce issues and promote physiotherapy.

You will provide representation for members at disciplinary hearings, grievances and disputes with employers, and provide general advice and information to representatives and members on issues such as pay, terms and conditions, and employment legislation.

With significant trade union experience at a senior level, and an understanding of NHS structures and government policy on health, you will have excellent communication, negotiation, training and presentational skills, combined with a strong collaborative approach and a thorough understanding of, and commitment to, equality and diversity principles and the ability to put them into practice.

You will collaborate with Sodexo’s global partnership leads to ensure delivery and alignment across the full breadth of the partnership too.

Critically, you will also lead work on healthy and sustainable diets within the UK food sector, advocating for progress towards the Livewell diet. A key responsibility will be to oversee the Diets pillar of our flagship WWF Basket initiative, holding UK retailers accountable for their commitments on driving shifts toward healthier, more sustainable diets.

Policy Advisor – Research and Data Monitoring

Contract type: 12 months Fixed Term, 35 hours per week

As our Policy Advisor –Research and Data Monitoring you will support the highest standards of research development, analysis and communication of data relating to the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector. 

In this role, you will lead high-level analysis and quality assurance of WASH data use as well as management research resources, include the Research and Evidence Bank, the Research Tracker and the Statistics Bank.

You’ll also: 

• Contribute to the design and commissioning of research projects to support advocacy, campaigns, media communications
• Oversea and manage small research projects – facilitating the sharing of research outputs and learnings within GPAC and across the organisation
• Work closely with GPAC colleagues and other WaterAid UK departments and ensure that information on commissioned research projects and learnings are shared widely across the WaterAid Federation (Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Sweden, UK, and USA)
• Play an active role in the research team, support colleagues and provide feedback as required and support any other relevant processes within the remit of the Policy team and GPAC in general

Requirements

To be successful, you’ll need:

We're looking for a Head of Governance and Compliance to work closely with our CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board of Trustees. This is a vital role at the centre of the organisation, supporting a wide range of influential individuals. The Head of Governance and Compliance will need to adapt to varied working styles and expectations, with the ability to approach all relationships with professionalism, clarity and care.

As Head of Governance and Compliance, you will lead our governance function, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance while enabling effective decision-making. With strong governance experience, sound judgement and the ability to build trust at all levels, you will support effective leadership and accountability across the MND Association.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and continuously develop the governance function, embedding best practices aligned with our strategy and values.
• Act as the primary trusted advisor on governance, risk and regulatory matters to the Chair, Board, CEO and Executive Leadership Team.
• Lead and develop governance frameworks, policies and structures that reflect best practice.
• Oversee planning and delivery of all governance activities, including Board meetings, Committee meetings, and the AGM.
• Provide clear structured agendas, timely papers and accurate minutes to support effective governance meetings.
• Maintain governance records and ensure regulatory compliance with Companies House and the Charity Commission.
• Monitor and report on governance performance, risks and improvement areas.
• Take a leading role in managing and enabling constructive and challenging relationships between the Board, Chair, and ELT.
• Manage trustee recruitment, induction, training and succession planning.
• Oversee the organisation's policy framework and serious complaints process, ensuring appropriate enquiry and learning.
• Lead the development and implementation of the risk management framework in line with Board expectations.
• Stay informed on legal, regulatory and sector developments and advise the organisation on implications.

About You:

• Strong knowledge of UK charity and company law.
• Proven experience working with Boards and senior leaders in a governance role.
• Skilled in developing governance policies, frameworks and risk management processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Good level of financial acumen within a governance role.

About the role:

We are looking to appoint a Family Support Coordinator to support our care teams in delivering a high-quality family support service in the region, working with families and professionals to ensure the families we support have access to the services they need.

Reporting to the Family Support Manager and working in partnership with health, education, and social care professionals, you will take responsibility for sourcing practical goods and services in the region, applying for grants and benefits, as well as working with other charities or community providers to obtain goods, equipment or funds for families that Rainbow Trust do not provide directly.
