As Supporter Care Officer you’ll help to build our fundraising activities by working closely with the Head of Fundraising and Partnerships to grow, diversify and sustain our income generation. You’ll provide excellent care and guidance to our supporters and create plans to grow our activities across individual giving, challenge and community fundraising. We’re in the early stages of growth and this new role offers an exciting opportunity to help build a fundraising department from the ground up.
You’ll have some experience in fundraising and/or the charity sector and will be keen to develop your skills and work across multiple functions in a small, fast-moving team. Alternatively, you might be looking for an entry route into fundraising as a career path and have suitable transferable skills and a growth mind-set.
You’ll be excited by the challenge of helping to build our fundraising department from the start point, and driven by the opportunity to facilitate change that really counts in the long-term. We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Fundraising Assistant to support our growing and ambitious fundraising team. About the Role
This freelance, part time role offers flexible, remote working, with occasional requirement for attendance at in person meetings. Reporting to our Secretary, as our Finance Officer you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing income and expenditure, preparing reports for trustees, and assisting with the financial reporting obligations required of a UK charity. About You

Key Responsibilities
- Record all financial transactions in QuickBooksOnline and maintain budget and reporting spreadsheets
- Reconcile bank and PayPal, Stripe and GoCardless accounts monthly
- Process invoices, expense claims, and payments
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for the trustees
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and year-end accounts including for the Trustees Annual Report
- Process GiftAid claims through HMRC
- Ensure compliance with Charity Commission financial regulations
- Liaise with external accountants or independent examiners as required
- Maintain accurate and accessible financial records for audit purposes
- Support financial tracking of restricted/unrestricted funds and programme budgets

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, ideally within a charity or nonprofit setting
- Solid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles, particularly for UK charities

- Familiarity with financial compliance for CIOs and Charity Commission reporting

About the role:

Each of the Support Network Coordinators have the responsibility for delivering, maintaining, and expanding the support services available to spinal cord injured (SCI) people and their region of the UK.
The post coordinates two vital parallel strands:
- In your region, to reach and support newly and long-term spinal cord injured people and their families developing a strong partnership with all available specialist services, charity and business partners; managing a dedicated team of volunteers as well as providing direct support to SCI people with more complex support needs.
- Nationally, working to facilitate the link between SCI people and SIA and the network of services; referring SCI people and their families to our clinical / health expert support teams and advocacy services; working with the Digital Engagement team to build on-line links to regional partners in your area; supporting fundraising, campaigns and communications.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Building strong relationships – you’ll be talking to everyone from people with SCI and their families, to healthcare professionals, solicitors and partners who deliver key services.

What will I be doing?

About the Role
- Lead statutory and management reporting: Oversee the production of audited statutory financial statements and timely completion of the external audit. Ensure best practice in external financial reporting and take full responsibility for the accuracy and delivery of monthly management accounts.
- Own cash flow and balance sheet management: Lead the preparation of the charity’s monthly rolling cash flow forecast and ensure full ownership of the balance sheet, including timely and accurate reconciliations.
- Strengthen financial controls and working capital: Ensure effective financial processes and controls within transactional teams to manage working capital and drive continuous improvement in financial operations.
- Oversee compliance and tax: Identify, manage and control financial risks, including tax compliance. Provide expert technical accounting advice and ensure the charity remains fully compliant in all taxation matters, including VAT and gift aid.
- Drive counter fraud and governance improvements: Act as the financial lead for the charity’s control environment and counter fraud framework. Champion improvements in fraud awareness, culture, and control.
- Manage key external relationships: Serve as the main contact for the charity’s bankers and investment managers, and act as secretary to the Finance Committee and Investment Advisory Group.
- Optimise treasury and investment performance: Lead treasury activities to maximise returns on working capital and investments, ensuring alignment with the charity’s strategic objectives.
- Develop team and performance culture: Foster a high-performing finance team through regular 1-1s, development reviews, and team meetings. Embed a strong performance management culture in line with St John Ambulance policies.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting BPP’s fundraising and operational systems. You will manage core administrative functions, maintain donor databases and financial records, support the Board of Trustees, assist with international fundraising trips, and help build strong relationships with our growing network of supporters and donors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update CRM systems (Salesforce) and financial records (Xero).
- Provide administrative support to the Board and working groups, including scheduling and minute-taking.
- Support donor communications including donor pitching presentations (PowerPoint), Gift Aid administration, and donor stewardship.
- Coordinate logistics for fundraising trips to the Middle East and manage follow-up actions.
- Assist in drafting supporter emails, organising events and webinars, and managing digital content.
About You:
Essential:
- Excellent organisational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident multitasker with attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong alignment with BPP’s mission and values.
Desirable:
- Experience with CRM (Salesforce), Xero, Mailchimp, or Canva.
- Background in charity administration, fundraising, or communications.
- Familiarity with Israel-Palestine and related humanitarian or political issues.
