Head of Developing Philanthropy

We are looking for a passionate and strategic Head of Developing Philanthropy to join the Environmental Funders Network (EFN) in this remote working role.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in growing environmental philanthropy across the UK and to help inspire funders to support causes that sustain a thriving planet.

Location: Home-based (within 90 minutes of London by train)
Salary: £60,000 per annum, pro rata

The Role

Working closely with EFN’s Executive Director, you will lead on growing the amount of funding flowing to environmental causes from UK funders – including trusts, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals – by connecting and engaging with those not yet funding environmental causes at scale, and inspiring and supporting them to start giving or to give more.

You will form part of EFN’s Leadership Team, deputising for the Executive Director as needed, and will likely line manage a small team of 3–4 individuals.

 

You will:

• Revise and implement EFN’s Growing Environmental Philanthropy (GEP) strategy, working with the Executive Director, Board and GEP Advisory Group.
• Raise awareness of the need for environmental philanthropy through partnerships, events, communications and media opportunities.
• Identify and engage new funders and advisors through meetings, events, field trips and speaking engagements.
• Provide inspiration, advice, and practical resources for funders and advisors to start or expand their environmental giving.
• Support wider programme delivery, including the Big Give’s Earth Raise campaign and partnerships with organisations such as the Beacon Collaborative and Climate Lead.
• Contribute to fundraising for EFN’s GEP programme and support EFN’s financial sustainability.

About You

You’ll bring at least five years’ experience in fundraising or a related industry, with a proven track record of building and managing relationships with individual donors or high-net-worth clients. You’ll be a confident communicator and creative thinker with a strong commitment to environmental and social justice.

• Strategic leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring teams.
• Excellent relationship management and influencing skills, with confidence in public speaking and representing EFN at high-profile events.
• Experience developing and delivering inclusive, outcome-focused events and programmes.
• Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise a substantial workload and work independently.
• Solid IT skills, including CRM systems (preferably Salesforce) and virtual meeting platforms.

The Opportunity   

This role is central to shaping and delivering the Social Mobility Foundation’s media, public affairs, and campaigning work, alongside the Campaigns Manager. You will influence changemakers - including politicians and journalists - through strategic media, political, and social media interventions. You will also collaborate with our Young Campaigners to amplify their voices and co-create impactful campaigns with them that drive systemic change.

1. Helping to plan and deliver campaigns activity, both planned and reactive, including: 

• Organising campaign events e.g. Parliamentary receptions and communicating our campaigns online and on social media.
• Assisting the Campaigns Manager to commission research and polling support our campaigning.
• Monitoring parliamentary activity, and horizon scanning - considering how political developments may affect our campaigning work, providing opportunities and risks. 

2. Leading our media work to maximise the impact of our campaigning, building awareness of social mobility as an issue amongst influential and informed audiences: 

• Developing and executing media and communication plans to support our campaign goals.
• Monitoring the media and responding to stories that allow us to land our key messages, share our point of view and platform SMF young people.
• Responding to requests from journalists for comment and advising and briefing members of staff on how to respond.

3. Co-create campaigns alongside our Young Campaigners and engage them in delivering and designing campaign activity:

• Developing and facilitate spaces for our Young Campaigners to co-create campaign activities and take actions to influence changemakers.
• Working with young people to share their experiences, through speaking at events and other campaigning opportunities.
• Training and supporting young people to speak to the media, ensuring safeguarding processes are embedded and providing follow up pastoral support where needed.

Person Specification

• Experience of working within a media, campaigning, public affairs or political environment.
• Excellent understanding of the UK political system and political processes and a thorough understanding of public affairs tactics.  
• Experience of planning and delivering projects or campaigns in a charity, political or media context. 
• Excellent copywriting skills, with experience of writing press releases, quotes, interview briefings, social media posts and opinion pieces.
• Experience of successfully influencing policy or practice.
• Experience of speaking to journalists, succinctly describing our positions, handling media enquiries and making recommendations to senior colleagues on next steps.

About Chapter One

Chapter One is a small but growing charity, working to ensure that every child has 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.

Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme provides daily, tailored 1:1, 7 minute phonics sessions for children who are behind in phonics. Using a bespoke technology tool that can be aligned to any school phonics scheme, a trained Early Reading Interventionist works individually with target children. We currently have ELIs working in 11 schools in London, East Sussex and the West Midlands, with plans to expand. Data from 2024-25 showed that children receiving ELI support had a phonics screen pass rate of 95% (10% above school cohort averages).

Chapter One also offers a unique Online Reading Volunteer programme which currently supports about 3,500 children a year. It pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 170 local and national businesses. The volunteer pledge is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. About the role

Working 30 hours per week over 5 days, for 44 weeks a year, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme in the UK. You will manage a team of part-time ELI practitioners, visiting them regularly in school to provide supervision, quality assurance and support. You will lead on the relationships with schools involved in the programme: organising and overseeing programme delivery; sharing regular data summaries and ensuring pupil progress. As the programme grows, you will also be responsible for the recruitment and training of new ELIs.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has recent experience of teaching and/or leading phonics with an excellent understanding of phonics pedagogy and the ability to train and develop our ELI practitioners. The successful candidate must be willing to travel to the schools we work with, initially in (but not limited to) London, East Sussex and the West Midlands. Travel expenses will be paid.

Key Responsibilities
Staff management

• Lead and manage a team of Chapter One Early Literacy Interventionists (ELIs) to effectively deliver the Early Literacy intervention programme in schools.
• Visit ELIs in school regularly to provide supervision, quality assurance and support.
• Recruit, train and induct new ELI practitioners as required.
• Design and create training materials for new ELIs.
• Provide annual training for teachers who have pupils taking part in the programme.
• Conduct monthly supervision meetings and annual appraisals of ELI practitioners and clearly document these.
• Lead the fortnightly ELI meeting, supporting with any issues which may arise.

Programme delivery, school liaison and evaluation

• Ensure ELIs baseline each pupil when they begin and track pupil progress throughout the year.

• Conduct termly data meetings with schools to share data trackers and ensure that schools are fully informed about pupil progress.
• Lead on the documentation of key processes and step by step guides for the ELI team and ensure that these processes are followed.
• Analyse pupil data both for ELI pupils and non-ELI pupils to produce reports and identify trends, sharing with the Evidence and Impact Manager as required.
• In collaboration with the Schools Development Manager, conduct annual renewal conversations with partner schools.

Platform development

• Be the first port of call for ELI practitioners for the operation of the Chapter One Early Literacy platform, escalating issues as necessary.
• Liaise with the platform development team to feedback on platform bugs and areas of improvement.
• Proactively identify new directions for the development of the platform, in line with the latest pedagogy and research on early reading, and liaise with the Product Manager and development teams as required.

General responsibilities

• Liaise with Managers in all other departments as required.
• Participate in business planning and objective setting and attend the School and Parent Engagement group meeting each term.

Air pollution is the greatest environmental risk to health, particularly in urban areas like Lambeth and Southwark. Air pollution doesn’t affect everyone equally; it disproportionately prevents racialised  and people living on low incomes from living healthy and happy lives. Our vision is a healthier world where everyone breathes clean air. To achieve this, we fund solutions to reduce the impact of air pollution by working with a diverse range of partners across Lambeth and Southwark and we work with decision makers to advocate for clean air. We are dedicated to reducing air pollution in a way that has the deepest impact on improving health equity in urban areas. Therefore, we believe efforts to reduce air pollution must be targeted to benefit those people who are most affected by it and we use what we learn to influence others to take a similar, equitable approach. 

This role will be leading the Amplifying Voices strand of the programme. This strand works with communities to amplify the voices of people who are most affected by air pollution. To that end, we work in partnership with organisations like LIVE+BREATHE, Global Child Maternal Health, and the Ella Roberta Family Foundation.

• Lead on strategy delivery for the Amplifying Voices strand of the Health Effects of Air Pollution programme.

Knights Youth Centre (KYC) was established in 1936 as an independent Christian Charity. The centre provides a range of universal and targeted youth work programmes in partnership with a number of statutory and voluntary organisations and is located on the boundary of the Clapham Park Estate (the largest estate in the Borough of Lambeth). In 2025 KYC is joining the Oasis family of charities and will be known as Oasis@Knights. Oasis’ vision is for community, a place where everyone is included, making a contribution and reaching their God-given potential.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Team Lead to run our Senior Group Session (ages14-18) at Oasis@Knights. This is an opportunity to run engaging and informative activities for young people aged 14-18 in the Lambeth area, inspiring them to reach their potential and to make a real difference to their community. The successful candidate will be responsible for running these sessions weekly, managing session staff, delivering engaging activities, attending occasional day trips, as well as responding to and reporting any safeguarding concerns. 

Key responsibilities will include: 

1. To lead the delivery of youth sessions at Knights Youth Centre (KYC) and facilitate youth provision in line with the ethos, values and vision of Oasis. 
2. To work and engage with young people (aged 14-18), by delivering planned sessions, activities and occasional trips.   
3. Deliver informal education opportunities and small group mentoring within the identified sessions and the wider community. 
4. To manage and coordinate KYC staff members whilst leading sessions.
5. Record all activity on our data management system. 
6. Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people you come into contact with. 
7. Actively engage in the learning and professional development courses provided as part of this employment.

The successful post holder must have:

· Proven experience in leading youth work provision for young people aged 14-18.

· Experience of managing staff in a youth provision setting.

· An understanding of the challenges impacting young people in Lambeth – in particular education, employment, mental health and criminal exploitation.

· Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships.

· Knowledge of safeguarding practices and experience working with young people in challenging environments.

· A commitment to the Oasis ethos and values, including inclusion, equality, and perseverance.

About Unfold

Unfold is an established local charity supporting young people and families to reach their potential by identifying and achieving their goals through mentoring. We support families and young people in Westminster and its neighbouring boroughs through mentoring programmes and peer support groups for women with children.

For over 35 years, we have provided support to families and young people at risk of social exclusion. Working with trained and DBS-checked volunteers, we offer mentoring to women and children, building independence and helping people get where they want to be. We’ve also developed specialised programmes for refugees, children excluded from school, those with care experience, and families facing homelessness.

About the Role

The Programme Manager is responsible for the development, management and delivery of Unfold’s Broadening Horizons mentoring programme and peer support groups for children and young people aged 10–25.

The role includes managing a team of four (Senior Programme Officers and Programme Officers), ensuring effective planning and delivery of mentoring programmes in line with agreed strategies and workplans. You will oversee the development of specialised programmes, including mentoring for refugees, young people seeking asylum, those excluded from mainstream education, and those with care experience.

The Programme Manager will monitor performance, manage resources, ensure compliance with Unfold’s policies and procedures, and report regularly to the Deputy CEO and Board of Trustees. You will prepare reports and case studies, analyse monitoring data, revise training materials, and use findings to inform programme improvement.

Partnership management is a key element of the role, including maintaining and developing relationships with local authorities, schools, funders, and community organisations to enhance programme delivery. The postholder will also lead the Youth Advisory Council, supporting members to contribute to Unfold’s strategy and direction.

As part of the Senior Management Team, the Programme Manager will contribute to wider organisational planning and development. The role may include occasional evening and weekend work, for which time off in lieu will be given.

Role Summary

Julie’s Bicycle (JB) is seeking an experienced and hands-on professional who can contribute to the organisation's financial strategy and future resilience. The Role

The Finance Manager will be a pivotal position within JB’s senior leadership team, responsible for the effective and efficient management of all financial operations. This role requires a highly experienced and hands-on professional who can seamlessly manage day-to-day bookkeeping and compliance while also contributing to the organisation's financial strategy and future resilience.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in charity finance, a deep understanding of VAT complexities, and the ambition to grow into a strategic financial leader. Key Responsibilities

Financial Management And Reporting (Operational & Strategic)

• Hands-on bookkeeping and transaction management: Oversee and execute all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll preparation, and bank reconciliations using the organisation's accounting software.

• Management accounts: Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, commentary, and analysis for the Managing Director, CEO, and the Board of Trustees.

• Statutory compliance: Manage all aspects of Charity SORP compliant financial reporting. Prepare and coordinate the annual statutory audit, working directly with external auditors. Oversee filing and reporting to regulators including the Charity Commission and Companies House.

• VAT and tax compliance: Lead on all VAT compliance, including preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns, ensuring full adherence to HMRC regulations, particularly those unique to the charity sector, including partial exemption requirements and annual adjustments.

• Budgeting and forecasting: Coordinate and support the annual budgeting process. Develop regular financial forecasts and projections to ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable.

• Cashflow management: Monitor and manage the organisation's cash flow, ensuring adequate funds are available for all operational needs.

• Payroll: Manage the relationship with the outsourced payroll provider, collate salary information, ensuring is accurate and up-to-date and manage pension payments.

Strategic support and leadership development

• Financial insight as part of the Senior Leadership Team: Develop and deliver clear, data-driven financial analysis and insights to inform strategic decision-making across the organisation (SLT, SMT and Board).

• Policy and procedure: Review and maintain robust financial controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the charity’s assets and ensure best practice.

• Restricted funds: Maintain meticulous records for all restricted and designated funds, ensuring compliance with all donor and grant conditions.

• Grant reporting: Lead on preparing detailed financial reports for funders (e.g., Arts Council England, trusts, foundations), ensuring all expenditure is accurately recorded and compliant with specific grant requirements. Consolidate all the above into a shared reporting calendar.

Person Specification

Essential experience and knowledge

• Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/AAT), with at least 5-10 years of demonstrable, progressive experience in a similar finance role, with a significant portion gained within the UK charity/non-profit sector.

• In-depth, practical knowledge of UK charity financial regulations and Charity SORP.

• Expert-level understanding of VAT for charities, including partial exemption and trading subsidiaries.

• Proven ability to manage the full accounting cycle, from transaction entry (bookkeeping) through to preparing statutory accounts.

• Experience in managing the annual audit process and engaging with external auditors.

• Excellent proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Aquila) and advanced Excel skills.

Senior Grant Making Manager – 12 months fixed term contract

The Senior Grant Making Manager plays a pivotal role in the success of funding in our England Directorate and in particular our responsive funding in the London, South East and East Region.

Reporting to the Senior Head of Responsive Funding in the London, South East & East Region, you will play a key role in delivering our strategy, ‘It Starts with Community’, maximizing the impact of our funding across the region with a particular focus on London where you will work with others to develop our regional and London specific strategic direction, ensuring excellent management and oversight of day-to-day grant making and learning.

You will own key stakeholder relationships within London and play a lead role in developing the regions’ stakeholder engagement and relationship strategy. You will be a key representative of the National Lottery Community Fund in the region as part of the Regional Leadership Team, deputising for the Head of Region as necessary.

You will also be a key member of the England Leadership Team, maintaining strong relationships with colleagues across the England Directorate including other regional teams, key business partners as well as colleagues across The Fund.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading on funding strategy and delivery for London. Working to support the delivery of our Reaching Communities programme and the diversification of our funding portfolio to include partnerships work, more intentional grant making and our commitment to being more than a funder.
• Stakeholder Engagement across London and the region – To maximise our impact, to ensure a joined up collaborative approach and for learning and awareness raising, we need to work with others. You will hold, develop and maintain a strong network of external relationships.
• Leading, supporting and inspiring a team of 3 x Funding Managers (who you line manage) –providing support and overseeing the work of their teams (approx 20 staff), with a focus on delivery, values and maintaining wellbeing. You will also provide leadership to the full regional team.
• Leading through change and supporting the delivery of our new operating model and ways of working. This includes ensuring teams understand and adapt to change, that operating structures align and our processes and procedures are consistent across all of England responsive teams.
• Engagement locally and at an England and UK level. – You will liaise with and hold key relationships with other regional hubs and England funding teams as well as functions in Business Support, Knowledge and Learning and Communications, to ensure a joined up one Fund approach. You will also need to maintain solid relationships across a number of key Corporate functions including Finance, Legal, Audit, Service Design/GMS amongst others.
