Role Summary

Education Outreach Volunteers support the Reptile Centre by assisting with community education sessions, school visits, events, and public engagement activities. Volunteers help promote reptile welfare, conservation awareness, and responsible pet ownership. This role is ideal for people who enjoy working with the public, have an interest in animals, and want to make a positive impact in the community.

Key Responsibilities

Support Educational Sessions

• Assist staff during school visits, workshops, and community outreach events.

• Help set up and pack away educational materials, displays, and activity stations.

• Support the delivery of interactive demonstrations (with or without live animals, depending on training).

• Engage with visitors, answer basic questions, and help create a welcoming learning environment.

Animal Handling (Optional Based on Training)

Community Engagement

Event Support

• Assist with coordinating groups during onsite and offsite sessions.

We work tirelessly to promote inclusivity, celebrate trans joy, and advocate for access to vital services through campaigns across fashion, arts, beauty, and beyond.

We are seeking a motivated Partnerships & Outreach Volunteer to help us build strong, meaningful relationships with other charities, nonprofits, and community groups. This role will support collaborative projects and campaigns, strengthening our impact and extending our reach.

Job Summary

The Partnerships & Outreach Volunteer will focus on identifying, developing, and maintaining collaborative relationships with external organisations. Branch Trustee – Community Outreach (Chatham) RSPCA Medway West

This is an exciting opportunity to be able to influence how we do things whilst helping the RSPCA to; identify animal welfare needs in the area, prevent animal cruelty, and reach out to more supporters.

Overview of the Branch Trustee – Community Outreach opportunity

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, with professional expertise, who could devote their time to volunteer as a trustee at our RSPCA Medway. You would be supporting us with establishing connections in the local community and determining what animal welfare needs there are in the area so we can help more animals in need.

Alongside passing on your expertise, this opportunity will give you the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow trustees, in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the trustee takes on additional duties.

The RSPCA Medway Branch

The RSPCA Medway Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.

The main activity of our branch is on

• Helping people on benefits and low-income to afford veterinary bills.
• Providing support for people to neuter their animals.
• Providing support to the inspectorate to help get animals treated.
• Access to a pet food bank, working alongside local human foodbanks.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Community Outreach

• Take the lead on matters relating to community outreach:
• Establish connections with the local community.
• Help the Branch determine what the local animal welfare need is.
• Where there are opportunities for improvements in animal welfare.
• Assist the Branch in setting strategies to tackle the identified animal welfare needs of the Branch area.
• Work closely with other organisations (other welfare charities, other welfare providers, vets etc) to develop mutually beneficial partnership opportunities.
• Identify opportunities for the Branch to engage with those living within the branches area to develop its supporter base.

Core Branch Trustee responsibilities

• Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
• Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
• Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
• In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
• Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
• Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support regional initiatives.
• Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
• In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert, although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.

• Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidance for individuals on who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.

Peace Brigades International (PBI) is an international NGO with over 40 years’ experience providing life-saving protection and support to hundreds of brave human rights defenders who face reprisals because of their activism for social justice. Alfriston Outreach Service is dedicated to helping older and vulnerable people in Kingston. We provide services such as Hot Lunch delivery, Shopping, and Laundry delivered into people’s homes, with our aim to support older people to remain independent in their own homes.

Mind in Kingston supports people with mental health issues and raises awareness within Kingston and surrounding areas. We provide training, supervision, and opportunities for career development. 

Volunteers are extremely valued within our team and a vital part of our service delivery. We welcome applications from people from all walks of life, including those who may have personal or professional experience of mental health. While lived experience can bring valuable perspective, it is not a requirement for volunteering with us. Our focus is on providing volunteers with the training, guidance and supervision they need to feel confident in their roles and to develop their skills. Volunteers are supported to succeed and offered opportunities to connect with trustees, staff and other volunteers both professionally and socially. Main purpose of the role: 

• Support and assist the cook in the kitchen.

Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and we particularly welcome application from people with physical or mental health conditions, and people from Black, Asian Minority Ethnic (Global Majority) and LGBTQIA+ communities. Project overview: 

Alfriston Outreach Service is dedicated to supporting older and vulnerable people in Kingston to live independently at home. We provide services such as hot lunch delivery, shopping, and laundry, helping people remain safe and well in their own homes. Alongside this, we run our new ‘Lunch and Learn’ programme — a time-limited series of sessions where service users are invited into the centre for a shared meal followed by a skills-based workshop. Topics include digital skills, money management, wellbeing, and access to relevant local services. The aim is to build confidence, develop practical skills, and support people to connect with wider community services, ensuring positive progression and avoiding long-term dependency.

Mind in Kingston supports people with mental health issues and raises awareness within Kingston and surrounding areas. We provide comprehensive training, supervision, and opportunities for career development. 

Volunteers are extremely valued within our team and a vital part of our service delivery. We welcome applications from people from all walks of life, including those who may have personal or professional experience of mental health. While lived experience can bring valuable perspective, it is not a requirement for volunteering with us. Our focus is on providing volunteers with the training, guidance and supervision they need to feel confident in their roles and to develop their skills. Volunteers are supported to succeed and offered opportunities to connect with trustees, staff and other volunteers both professionally and socially. Above all, we value the contribution volunteers make to our community and are committed to recognising their achievements. 

Main purpose of the role: 

• Welcome and engage with service users attending the Lunch and Learn sessions. 

• Help create a friendly and supportive environment that encourages confidence, participation, and positive social interaction. 

• Assist with the smooth running of both the lunch and learning elements of the session. 

• Support service users to take part in activities, while encouraging independence and signposting to staff where needed. 

Tasks will include: 

• Supporting set-up and planning for service users before they arrive. 

• Greeting service users on arrival and guiding them to seats or facilities if required. 

• Serving lunch and helping to create a relaxed, sociable atmosphere. 

• Chatting with service users and encouraging their participation in the session, referring any questions or concerns to staff. 

• Assisting the speaker/facilitator during the learning activity (e.g. handing out materials, supporting group engagement). 

• Helping with clear-up after the event has finished. 

• Maintain knowledge of local services for signposting. 

• Reporting risks & safeguarding concerns. 

• Maintain regular contact with the supervisor. 

• Attend meetings and supervision sessions. 

What you will receive in return:

• Training for any other skills as identified by yourself and your supervisor. 

• Regular check-in with your supervisor, reflective supervision, and managerial support.

• *Alfriston volunteers only: access to a discounted lunch (£5 per lunch, subject to availability). A minimum of 24 hours’ notice must be given. 

What we expect from you: 

• Commitment for at least six months. 

• Completion of required training. 

• Adherence to Mind in Kingston’s policies (e.g., confidentiality, safeguarding). 

• Proactive engagement with your supervisor for support.

• An enhanced DBS check is necessary. 

We ask volunteers for two references, one of which must come from someone who has supervised you recently in your work or studies, such as a current or previous employer or a tutor. You will also need to undergo an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, as you will be working with vulnerable adults.

The Peer Support Group is one of our newest services at Mind in Kingston, and focuses on resilience, mindfulness, and goal-setting for individuals with low-level health problems. Support will be offer through groups of up to 8 participants, meeting regularly in person and virtually, over a period of 8 weeks.

• Provide emotional support and guidance to group members,

• Help participants identify and build on their strengths, coping strategies, and resilience.

• Establish and maintain clear boundaries and expectations for group members.

• Manage conflicts or challenging situations that may arise during group sessions.

• Collaborate with the supervisor/coordinator to plan and prepare session content, activities, and materials.

• Ensure sessions are engaging, relevant, and tailored to the group's needs.

• Help maintain accurate records of group attendance.

• Provide feedback and updates to the supervisor/coordinator as required.

• Maintain regular contact with the supervisor. 

• Attend meetings and supervision sessions. 

Essential skills and experience: 

• Proven experience in leading groups or facilitating workshops.

• Experience in supporting individuals with mental health issues, either through personal experience or professional background.

• Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in a group setting
