Job description

At Hestia, we are guided by our core values and are dedicated to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive organisation. Our mission is to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and achieve independence. Right now, we are looking for a Part time Peer Support Worker to play a pivotal role in our Complex Needs Service in Hillngdon.

Sounds great, what will I be doing?

The main purpose of the role is to provide excellent quality support and interventions to clients with mental health needs who require early intervention and prevention support . You will support clients throughout their time in service and empower them with the skills to cope independently. You will carry out support and interventions in line with organisational values and the ethos of recovery and co-production, as well as in line with policies and procedures

What do I need to bring with me?

You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. We also value lived experience of the areas we support, so if you feel comfortable, please do mention this on your application.

Here's what the team will be looking for:

You will bring strong prioritisation and time management skills, with the ability to work dynamically and remain calm under pressure. With good IT proficiency, including MS Word, Outlook, and internet-based tools, alongside excellent literacy and numeracy, you will be confident producing clear written correspondence and maintaining accurate records. You will demonstrate a solid understanding of safeguarding issues and the ability to address them effectively, while also supporting the induction of new peer staff and volunteers. Your strong communication and partnership-building skills will enable you to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, building positive relationships with colleagues, external partners, and service users.

Drawing on lived experience of mental health care pathways, you will have a deep understanding of the issues faced by individuals with a range of mental health conditions. You will know how to communicate effectively and provide support with dignity and respect, quickly building trust with service users, carers, and professionals. With well-developed listening and verbal communication skills, you will be able to engage appropriately with individuals in crisis, as well as statutory and voluntary agencies. Your knowledge of recovery tools, mental health and wellbeing services, and local support networks will allow you to assess needs, risks, and aspirations effectively, ensuring appropriate signposting and person-centred support.

Interview Steps

We keep our interview process simple, so you know exactly what to expect.

  • Shortlisting call: We have a team of dedicated recruitment specialists who will speak to you about your experience, motivations and values. They will also tell you about all the great work we do!

Don't be alarmed if there are other stages in the process, it's all part of the plan for some of our roles.
