We are a busy, ambitious charity operating at the heart of the Wandsworth community since 1995, helping thousands of people across the borough in unpaid Caring roles. We give information and advice, organise respite, offer complementary therapies, deliver training, provide peer support, arrange fun events and much more.  In short, we are the Carer's friend and advocate, often helping Carers through difficult times.

The Role:

This role involves one to one support for Carers of people with dementia, providing information, guidance, and advocacy, developing and delivering dementia training for Carers and facilitating support groups. This role also includes coordinating and delivering monthly Dementia Cafes for people with dementia and their Carers, including supervising cafe volunteers.

Your skills and Experience:

The successful applicant will have outstanding organisational and communication skills, be confident delivering training and outreach. They will be able to manage conflicting demands with tight deadlines, be a key team player and committed to working with Carers and volunteers.

They will have excellent IT skills and be able to adapt to providing services both face to face and via virtual platforms, whilst maintaining a consistent service for Carers.

Role Purpose

CPRE London is a leading environmental charity in the capital, an independent charity and the London regional branch (1 of 42) of the national CPRE organisation, ‘The Countryside Charity’.

Financial Controller (Ark and Ventures)

Reports to: Finance Director for Ark and Ventures

Location: Currently operating hybrid working in our West London Office

Contract: Permanent

Pattern: Full Time (standard hours 9am – 5.30pm)

About the role:

This is a vital and high-profile role for us and requires a person with strong technical skills and the power of independent thought; meticulous organisational skills and attention to detail; and drive to constantly develop new and improved ways of working. The successful candidate will be a qualified and committed accountant, ready to lead financial control for Ark’s central Finance team.

The Financial Controller will be mainly responsible for ensuring the highest standards of financial control are met across Ark, its subsidiaries and the various external ventures Ark supports. Within this, the role will be responsible for the processing and reporting of financial accounting data for Ark and its related entities, day-to-day cash flow management and compliant statutory returns (including VAT).

The Financial Controller for Ark and Ventures will report into Finance Director for Ark and Ventures. This role is currently operating hybrid working in our West London Office on a permanent basis working full time.

First-round interviews will take place virtually w/c Monday 5th May and second-round interviews will take place in person w/c Monday 12th May.

Key Responsibilities:

• Staff management including training and regular appraisals. The team currently consists of two Finance Officers. Also supporting two business partners.
• Provide up-to-date financial information and technical advice to Ark management and the Venture teams, including cash management.
• Lead the year-end process, including creation of annual accounts for Ark and its related entities (excluding Ark Schools) and overseeing the audits.
• First review of monthly management accounts.
• Take responsibility for the year-end audit and preparation/supervision of draft statutory accounts for the Group and 5 subsidiary entities in accordance with Charities SORP, Companies Act and UK GAAP. Liaise with auditors and ensure timetable and deadlines are met
• Management and oversight of the month-end process to ensure timely period close, including approval of all manual journals posted to the accounting system.
• Review and approval of balance sheets control account reconciliations, including bank reconciliation, petty cash, purchase ledger, staff loans, credit card, and Payroll accounts.
• Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Group’s cash flow and Treasury and preparation of performance reports for the Ark Management Team and Finance and Risk Committee.
• Set-up and maintenance of PS Financials (accounting system) and Concur (invoice and expense system), including maintaining workflows in accordance with the Scheme of Delegation.
• Relationship owner for Lloyds (banker), including set-up of Commercial Banking Online and credit cards in accordance with the Scheme of Delegation. Responsible for maintaining all bank accounts and mandates.
• Responsibility for writing and maintaining finance policies and processes, including the financial Scheme of Delegation, and ensuring these are freely available to all relevant staff.
• Accounts Payable Lead ensuring all suppliers are paid on time. Responsible for processing weekly BACs runs and authorisations in line with the Scheme of Delegation.
• Manage insurance provision for the Ark Group.

Key Requirements:

• Right to work in the UK.
• Professional Accounting Qualification (at least 3-years post-qualification).
• Educated to degree level or equivalent.
• A record of Continuing Professional Development activities.
• Audit experience.
• Hands on experience of producing statutory accounts.
• Experience of VAT, including international and/or construction industry scheme reverse charge, ideally in a charity context.
• Advanced level IT skills and ability to make effective use of standard software packages, e.g., Microsoft Words, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

• Knowledge of the latest Charities SORP and Companies Act.
• Understanding and/or experience of working across a Group structure with a variety of business activities.

SLOW is the only charity offering weekly in person and online support groups to bereaved parents and siblings in London and across the UK.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Fundraiser to make a difference to the lives of bereaved families. As we look to diversify our income, you will work closely with the Charity Director to grow income from Corporate Partners, Community Events, Legacies and Trusts and Grants.

Based in London, SLOW (Surviving the Loss of Your World) has offered emotional and practical support for over eighteen years to bereaved families in the UK that have lost a child in any circumstances. Our unique approach to working with parents and siblings is highly regarded by our members and professionals and we are proud to have won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Our work is centred around regular support groups for bereaved parents, adult siblings and creative workshops for bereaved younger siblings. All our groups are facilitated by trained bereaved parents or siblings. Our members regularly refer to our groups as a ‘lifeline’. Our model of bereavement support is unique and is a direct response to what bereaved parents have told us they need.

SLOW is a registered charity with an income of currently circa £185k. The charity has a stable resource base with a range of income sources – some annual, some on multi-year commitments and other funding resulting from planned and targeted approaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Under the leadership of the Charity Director, the Fundraiser will manage the day-to-day fundraising and support the Charity Director in raising funds and developing SLOW’s income to ensure financial stability. You will assist the Charity Director in achieving the annual income and suggest new revenue streams.
• Working closely with the Charity Director, you will manage, monitor and execute SLOW’s annual financial target through a variety of different revenue streams. You will be supported by SLOW’s Business Management Assistant.
• The Fundraiser is part of a small team of paid and voluntary personnel working to maintain and develop SLOW in accordance with its founding principles and ethos. From time to time the post-holder will be required to take on tasks that are the primary responsibility of another if necessary.

Execute grant applications including: ·

• Researching appropriate grants for applications
• Writing and checking of all grant applications including proposing figures and the provision of all supporting documents
• Responding to queries from funders, including meeting/networking with them where necessary

Detailed Description Grants and Fundraising

• Collating and submitting feedback forms including analysis of expenditure versus grant allocations and membership
• Maintain good relationships with officers of grant making trusts and bodies in order to ensure regular and timely compliance with requirements

Assist with all SLOW fundraising including specifically:

• Managing corporate and private donations, charitable retail schemes and digital fundraising channels
• Work closely with the BMA to set up and administrate sponsored events and other ad hoc fundraising activities 
• Researching and proposing additional channels for fundraising  
• Work & liaise closely with volunteers at SLOW events
