The Advice and Representation team plays a vital role in championing student voices and ensuring they receive the support they need throughout their university experience. The team provides independent academic and welfare advice, supports democratic processes, and facilitates student representation across the institution. By working closely with elected officers, Student Voice Leaders, and key stakeholders, the team ensures students are empowered to influence policies, shape their education, and access essential guidance when facing challenges. The team also works to create inclusive representation structures that represent the diverse needs of all student communities.
Role
The role ensures students receive high-quality, independent support and have a strong voice in shaping their university experience. The role oversees both the advice service and student representation structures, managing a team that delivers casework support, representation initiatives, and democratic engagement. This includes supporting elected officers, overseeing student feedback mechanisms, running democratic processes, and ensuring effective student advocacy within the university.
Main Responsibilities
· Ensure that all the teams’ activities are aligned, preventing overlaps and ensuring a cohesive approach to the Union's goals. This includes integrating officer priorities, team-specific projects, and broader Union objectives into a single, unified plan.
· Ensure the delivery of independent, student-centered advice services on academic and welfare issues, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and confidentiality standards. This includes the post holder providing advice and advocacy services.
· Track and analyse advice and representation trends, feeding insights to inform wider SU and University strategies.
· Deliver proactive academic advice, including running proactive advice stalls and supporting student leaders to deliver peer support.
· Oversee the delivery of wellbeing initiatives across a range of issues, including mental health, food poverty, period poverty, and drugs/alcohol, in collaboration with relevant departments as appropriate.
· Maintain and develop the BSU Essentials food bank, ensuring a smooth operation, food safety monitoring, collecting data on usage, encouraging donations, and providing additional support information to students.
· Support the design and run the implementation of the Student Voice Leaders (SVL) programme, ensuring they have appropriate training, support and guidance.
· Attend School Education and Student Experience Committees to support Student Voice Leaders in their duties.
· Develop and implement representation structures for Postgraduate Taught (PGT) and Postgraduate Research (PGR) students, ensuring their concerns and needs are appropriately represented at all levels of the Union.
· Coordinate student voice initiatives for key student groups with unique challenges, ensuring their voices are included and represented in key decision-making processes. This may include commuting students, matures students, students with disabilities.
· Support elected officers by providing relevant student feedback, training, and guidance to help them represent students effectively within the University and beyond.
· Support the Communities Officer and Representation Projects Coordinator in ensuring termly forums for student groups, ensuring representation and inclusion for those groups needing most support.
· Contribute to the development of the SU’s Big Plan, overseeing the delivery of relevant projects and ensuring the team plays an active role in its implementation.
· Ensure effective and inclusive student engagement with advice services and representation, focusing on underrepresented and diverse student communities.
Communication

INTRODUCTION TO THE ROLE
Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage is seeking a Head of Finance to join its team based in London, UK. The successful individual will lead on strategic financial planning and financial day to day management at Girls Not Brides to advance our business model, financial sustainability and growth. The role ensures effective financial functions across the organisation, manages compliance with UK and overseas regulatory requirements, and works closely and hands on with other teams to oversee the preparation of proposals and budgets for prospective grants.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for a passionate, talented senior finance professional with at least 5 years post qualified experience. You will have experience working in a similar senior-level finance role in the not-for-profit sector, international/intergovernmental organisation or social enterprise. You will have qualified and hold membership in a recognised professional accountancy body. Your qualification and experience will ensure you hold an advanced understanding of the principles underpinning financial management and planning, with significant all-round accounting, financial management, full grants cycle management, compliance, risk and financial sustainability experience. You will be experienced in year-end reporting and proficient in engaging with statutory and other auditors. Ideally you will bring experience gained in a similar international charity, working in a multi-currency environment.
The successful candidate must already have the right to work in the UK at the time of applying and for the duration of the contract.
Fluency in English is essential for this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Leadership
· Lead on strategic financial planning and financial management at Girls Not Brides to advance the organisation’s business model, financial sustainability, and growth through long-range financial projection and planning, maximisation of income, and strong financial reporting.
· Ensure that financial planning feeds into the organisation’s work planning process and supports the strategic objectives of the organisation.
· Support all Directors/Heads of teams to ensure ownership of financial planning, annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, cost management, priorities and activities, as best serves the mission of the organisation.
· Lead on financial risk management including the implementation of appropriate risk management strategies such as financial controls, fraud prevention and processes to ensure value for money, and conduct regular reviews of Girls Not Brides’ financial policies and processes.
· Provide critical financial information, analysis, advice and support on financial issues and emerging opportunities.
· Assume responsibility for managing, planning and monitoring the Finance department’s budget.
· Provides leadership with regards to vision, purpose, and functions for the long-term development of the Finance Team.
Financial Management and Accounting
· Develop and maintain effective financial functions including budgeting, forecasting, production of quarterly management accounts, preparation of annual statutory accounts, and preparation of financial reports to Girls Not Brides’ funders, potential funders and the Board of Trustees.
· Manages timely, accurate and impactful quarterly management accounts to enable business planning and monitoring of organisational performance.
· Monitor financial performance, oversee reporting and cash flow management functions and systems.
· Develop and oversee robust and effective financial systems and processes for Girls Not Brides’ staff members based internationally.
· Ensure the smooth running of all accounting, financial transactions and evidence record keeping processes.
· Lead on procurement systems and implementation, identifying efficiencies and value for money.
· Manage and oversee internal control policies and procedures to ensure compliance across the organisation.

Audit and Tax Compliance
· Manage compliance with UK and overseas legal, statutory accounting and regulatory requirements, including signing off on all statutory filings as required by the Charity Commission, Companies House, HMRC and the Pension Regulator.
· Manage the production of the annual report and financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, SORP and accounting standards.
· Manage the external audit process and implementation of the audit findings.
· Oversee the project audits required by donors.
Grant Accounting and Compliance
· Work with the Development & Outreach Team, the Senior Finance & Grants Officer and the Senior Coordinator for Grants to oversee preparation of proposals and budgets for prospective grants.
· Supervise the preparation of all financial grant reporting, ensuring that the Development & Outreach team receive accurate and timely information for effective grant and donor management and compliance.
· Maximise cost-recovery from grants through strong financial planning and cost analysis processes, to ensure financial viability of projects and grant agreements.
· Provide support to, and build capacity of, other teams to support grant compliance as necessary.
· Review, and as needed negotiate, the legal and financial provisions of grant agreements.
· Oversee and ensure all received grants are promptly recorded and acknowledged, as well as paid out and reported on in accordance with donor requirements.
· Achieve timely, effective and clean external grant audits.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential experience
· ACA/ACCA/CCAB/CIMA qualified.
· Significant professional post-qualified experience in a similar senior-level finance role in the not-for-profit sector, international/intergovernmental organisation or social enterprise
· Degree-level qualification in a relevant area such as accounting, finance or business administration, or equivalent professional experience.
· Up-to-date knowledge of relevant UK charity statutory requirements e.g. SORP, Charity Accounting, IFRS/IAS.
· Advanced understanding of the principles underpinning financial and grant management and planning and of demonstrating impact and value for money.
· Significant all-round accounting, financial management, full grants cycle management, compliance, risk and financial sustainability experience, likely gained in an international charity, e.g. working in a multi-currency environment.
· Proven experience of presenting and working with Boards and Finance Committees.
· Proven experience with contracts and grants management, including cost recovery models and revenue management, as well as donor compliance and due diligence.
· Demonstrated experience in strategic business planning and review.
· Demonstrated direct experience of financial reporting to a Board of Trustees and major donors.
· Experience of using multi-currency accounting systems, such as Sun Systems, SAP Concur, QuickBooks, Sage and other relevant systems.
· Good knowledge of using complex excel functions such as macros, vlookup, pivot, sumifs, data analysis.

A central focus of this role is to develop and lead patient-centred educational programs, webinars, and content that ensure patients are well-informed, actively engaged, and empowered throughout their journey. You will also play a key role in strengthening the Foundation’s connection with patients and advocacy groups, ensuring their voices are meaningfully reflected in our research agenda and broader mission. A critical and growing area of work for the Foundation is the systematic gathering and use of patient insights and data. Purpose of Role
As Senior Fundraising Campaigns Project Manager you will take a key role in the planning and delivery of Comic Relief’s fundraising campaigns, developing project management best practices, managing project managers, and ensure the overarching planning, management and coordination of projects. The majority of projects will be related to fundraising activity but on occasion could also include other projects for our funding team, partnerships team and production team. The role will work with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure planning processes, project governance and reporting is developed and embedded into all fundraising activity, primarily as it relates to Comic Relief’s fundraising campaigns.
Key responsibilities:
· Work with the Head of Campaign Strategy and Planning to track a portfolio of projects, taking on the project management responsibility for select projects, primarily Comic Relief’s fundraising campaigns (managing multiple projects at a time)
· Develop project management best practice, evolving methods as needs arise. Ensure practices are followed across the project management team
· Manage projects across a full project lifecycle, including project briefing, scoping, set up, governance, planning, task management, communication, coordination and tracking and reporting
· Lead key strategic projects, including for large fundraising campaigns

You will also deliver specific projects stemming from the community strategy. Foremost among these is the Charity’s Community Partnerships programme. This involves working with a cohort of peer and community-led industry support groups to meet the needs of their communities, primarily through regular events-based engagement at our Soho offices. But it may also involve contributing to the co-working space offer at our offices in Soho, and to the Charity’s research on themes related to loneliness and social connection.
You will need to have experience of strategy development and partnerships or community management, and the excellent relationship management skills on which this depends. A background in developing mental or social wellbeing interventions is highly desirable, as is experience working in the film, television or creative industries. You will be a positive and enthusiastic individual, with a passion for creating solutions that support people’s mental and social wellbeing.
Main Areas of Responsibility
Community Strategy
·Continue to onboard and engage Charity staff with latest loneliness research findings
·Work with senior leadership to develop the Charity’s existing community strategy in response to the latest loneliness research findings and get buy-in from internal stakeholders
·Work closely with relevant teams to develop key actions informed by these strategic priorities
·Working with senior leadership, onboard and engage key industry stakeholders with the latest loneliness research findings and recommendations (where appropriate this may involve working closely with other Charity team members)
·Work closely with the Charity’s Impact and Evaluation Lead to ensure the impact of our Community Strategy is measured appropriately and reported on regularly in staff and trustee updates
Community Partnerships
-Continue managing (and growing) the Charity’s network of peer support and community groups, with a focus on communities experiencing high levels of loneliness
-Plan and deliver partner engagement events, with the aim of combatting loneliness and fostering belonging for the most vulnerable industry workers
-Day to day management of the Community Partners will involve working with the Charity’s Wellbeing Services Coordinator to manage partner event bookings, enquiries, building partner relationships, supporting partners with event management, attending partner events and gathering wellbeing insights from these communities to grow the Charity’s industry knowledge and support offer
-Support the partners to deliver effective and sustainable community building and peer support by organising appropriate workshops and webinars
-As needed, co-produce events with partners that aim to deliver on our partnership goals of fostering community and creating meaningful social connection
- Raise awareness of our Community Partners and their work within the wider industry
-Measure the impact of the Community Partnerships through tools such as member surveys and partner interviews, and regularly report on these findings
Co-working Space Development (tbc)
-Develop the Charity’s co-working space in Golden Square to be an inclusive, welcoming community hub for industry freelancers, that supports them to foster meaningful social connections
- Improve user satisfaction rates, working with relevant teams to improve operational support, bookings systems, user policies and drive deeper engagement with the Charity’s wider services
Research
-Support research projects (conducted either internally or by external partners) that continue to develop our understanding and evidence base on loneliness and social connection
-Contribute to the national and international dialogue on loneliness by sharing the Charity’s research findings, collaborating with key stakeholders and promoting best practice
-Develop relationships with professionals working to tackle loneliness (third sector, private sector, academia) to enable knowledge sharing, ensuring the charity’s work informs wider evidence on workplace loneliness
-Support the wider team to develop wellbeing projects and initiatives using research findings
General
-To operate in a way that ensures you are recognised as a role model for the Charity’s core values and behaviours.
-To undertake any other works as could be expected.
-To be prepared to travel to meetings across the UK and be away from home overnight occasionally, as the job reasonably demands.
- Candidates will need to be able to work evenings on a regular basis to support Community Partnership events. We operate a Time off in Lieu system to ensure that this is achievable within the post-holder’s contracted working hours.
