As our Data and Impact Manager, you will put people in Yorkshire at the heart of everything you do, unite with colleagues and other organisations in this cause, and dare to think big and bold to make positive solutions happen.


The Role

Reporting to the Head of Cancer Insight, as our Data and Impact Manager, you will be responsible for continually developing the charity’s knowledge of the Yorkshire cancer landscape by ensuring external data sources are regularly reviewed and interpreted, you will also apply insight and evidence to support activity across the charity, including identifying areas of greatest need, responding to data and information requests and supporting external communications.

Additionally, you will evaluate the impact of prospective and funded Research and Service Awards, conducting reviews of applications for funding to assess potential impact and providing advice and consultation on evaluations. The role holder will also collect and report data on the impact of funded Awards through an annual Impact Report, including creating and updating models to estimate Life Years Gained and the long-term impact of funded work.

Specifically, you will:

Data and Information

· Ensure a portfolio of data and evidence are maintained, analysed and interpreted on a regular basis and presented through reports, presentations and other materials to communicate key messages to internal and external stakeholders.

· Handle internal data requests, these will largely be to inform the work of the Research & Policy and Impact, and Brand & Relationships teams, and could include data and information for press releases, social media and presentations.

· Lead on external data and information requests, liaising with external stakeholders and producing insightful reports which show the charity’s expertise in cancer data and Yorkshire’s cancer landscape.

· Provide data and information to support the strategic planning of future work and priority areas.


Impact and evaluation

· Lead the pre-award impact assessment of proposals submitted to the charity, ensuring targets are accurate and acceptable. Sharing findings with internal and external stakeholders where appropriate.

· Contribute to the impact assessment of funded awards throughout their lifetime and beyond as required, capturing data annually.

· Conduct direct evaluation reviews of funded Services Awards on behalf of and in collaboration with internal and external teams and directly advising and consulting Award Holders on requirements for evaluation.

· Lead on the production of an annual Impact Report, gathering input from Award Holders and the wider Research and Services teams, summarising the activity of funded Awards, and estimating the collective long-term impact of all funded Awards using impact models.

 

Other responsibilities

· Line manage the Data and Impact Officer.

· Represent the Cancer Insight Team on charity-wide project teams.


About You

To be considered for this role, you will need:

· To be educated to degree level or equivalent.

· To have experience of working in a relevant field at a similar level.

· To have experience of analysing large datasets to highlight useful trends and statistics.

· To have experience of evaluating projects and the impact of work, including assessing progress towards KPIs.

· To have experience of creating and maintaining models to look at potential future outcomes and impact to support strategic decision-making.

· To have experience of taking a comprehensive view of information compiled from multiple sources to write informative reports and briefings.

· To have excellent presentation skills, with the ability to talk confidently about complex information to a variety of audiences, including health experts, scientists, researchers, patients and the wider public.

· To have experience of evidence gathering and using data to inform and influence decisions of internal and external stakeholders.

· To understand research and clinical trial methodologies and ability to understand commonly used metrics and designs.

· To be a strategic thinker with strong analytical, judgement and decision-making skills.

· To be able to sift out the essential elements from a mass of complex information, integrate and synthesise ideas, and present information to others in an accessible way.

· To have excellent organisational and time management skills with a very strong ability to prioritise work, handle conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines, in order to effectively support reactive activity.

· To be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, using own initiative and being proactive to manage own workload, as well as supporting direct reports to manage workload and their priorities.

· To have strong IT skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and confident using statistical software.

· To have excellent networking and interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and an ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders.
