Democracy Classroom is a non-partisan, UK-wide initiative and a leading voice for the sector, reaching teachers and youth practitioners in 95% of the UK’s parliamentary constituencies. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Head of Communications and Networks will amplify The Politics Project’s voice, build strategic partnerships and strengthen collaboration across the youth, education and democracy sectors. You will lead on communications, stakeholder engagement and the continued development of the Democracy Classroom Network.

You will oversee a team responsible for communications, partnerships and events, providing leadership and guidance to ensure clear messaging, impactful storytelling and strong, coordinated engagement across the sector. The post holder will combine strategic thinking with strong operational delivery, managing both the external profile of the organisation and the networks that underpin its reach and influence.

Key responsibilities include:

Communications

• Develop and lead The Politics Project’s communications strategy to raise visibility and strengthen reputation.
• Ensure clear, consistent messaging across all channels, including website, social media, newsletters and press.
• Lead media relations, drafting press releases, handling journalist enquiries and identifying media opportunities.
• Monitor and evaluate communications activity to measure reach, engagement and influence.

Partnerships and networks

• Work with the Partnerships Manager and Director to cultivate and manage relationships with key stakeholders across civil society, government, education and youth sectors.
• Oversee the day-to-day running of the Democracy Classroom Network, including partner communications, newsletters and database management.
• Create opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing between organisations, policymakers and institutions.
• Oversee the Democracy Classroom Platform and ensure it continues to grow as a trusted resource hub for teachers and practitioners.
• Act as The Politics Project’s representative and ambassador at external meetings, conferences and events.

Leadership and management

• Lead and mentor the communications and networks team, including line management of the Partnerships Manager, Communications Lead and Programme Coordinator.
• Manage relationships with freelance designers, illustrators and developers.
• Oversee evaluation and monitoring of communications and network activities, producing reports as required.
• Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively for communications, campaigns and events.
• Contribute to the organisation’s strategic planning and cross-programme collaboration.
• Carry out other duties as required in support of the organisation.

This is a fast-paced senior management role in a small but growing organisation. The post includes a six-month probation period and is fixed-term until March 2027, with the potential of extension depending on funding. Occasional travel within the UK and some evening or weekend work will be required.

Essential

What to expect

There are two excellent senior managers to lean on delivering Prospect Development and HV Events, so it is expected the main focus for the first 6-12 months will be driving the development of Information and Assets.

You will be required to translate organisational priorities into compelling cases for support and donor communications, create and manage funding priorities and funding gaps, improve access to case studies and other storytelling tools, partner with HVP teams to understand their requirement and their prospects and donor’s needs. We’re looking for a Trusts Officer to join our dynamic Fundraising Team to contribute towards securing vital income from charitable trusts and foundations across the UK.

Working closely with the Trusts Manager, you’ll develop and submit compelling funding proposals, build strong relationships with new and existing supporters and ensure the highest standards of donor care. You’ll also help maintain accurate records, collaborate across teams, and contribute to achieving ambitious income targets.

• To lead and deliver Butterfly Conservation’s strategic aims for nature recovery in Scotland, maximising our impact for butterflies, moths and people.
• To implement BC’s objectives through leadership of the Scotland Nature Recovery team, setting and managing budgets, targets and workplans while inspiring and enabling staff to achieve their best.
• To develop and strengthen collaboration with BC staff, volunteers, stakeholders and partners to drive progress on BC’s targeted species recovery programmes, landscape-scale initiatives and wider nature recovery in Scotland. 

• Drive delivery of BC’s strategic objectives through designing and managing workplans for the Nature Recovery Scotland team, translating ideas into action and ensuring effective reporting to monitor and share evidence of our impact.
• Lead BC’s species recovery work for priority butterflies and moths in Scotland, setting objectives and driving targeted action to recover populations of some of our most threatened species. 
• Lead our landscape-scale conservation work in Scotland, developing and overseeing projects using butterflies and moths as indicators of nature recovery across a landscape.
• Develop and deliver new approaches to contribute to broader nature recovery across Scotland, including exploring potential nature markets and developing our advice and services to reach more partners. 
• Lead, manage and be accountable for the Nature Recovery team in Scotland, including a small number of direct line management reports. Responsible for budgeting, work planning and resource management, including overseeing annual performance management, team meetings, supporting training needs, staff development and well-being.
• Lead the development of new nature recovery projects, including partner liaison, project planning and design, budgeting and reporting to funders. Collaborate with Nature Recovery, Fundraising, and Finance teams to build a case for support and develop bids for external funding through partnerships, appeals and services. 
• Oversee the management of BC’s Nature Reserves in Scotland through the work of the Conservation Managers, in collaboration with the Ecology Services team, to maximise their contribution to nature recovery. 
• Be responsible for Scotland Nature Recovery budgets and their control, working closely with the Finance team to ensure effective planning and timely financial reporting.
• Ensure close working between BC staff, Branches and key volunteers in delivering co-ordinated nature recovery action towards BC’s strategic goals across Scotland.

• Host the first day of the induction programme 'Feel at Home'
• Deliver ad-hoc training as required
• Coordinate schedules and rotas for mandatory training and induction delivery

We are seeking a talented and motivated Researcher to join our growing team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-impact research that shapes public understanding and policy on race and inequalities in the UK.

You will lead and support a range of research projects from inception to delivery, using both quantitative and qualitative methods to generate rigorous, accessible and influential outputs. Working closely with colleagues across research, policy and communications, as well as external partners and funders, you will play a key role in ensuring that Runnymede’s work remains at the forefront of the national conversation on race and social justice.

Primary location of role

This is a remote role, and the candidate will need to be based in the Kent, Sussex, or Surrey area. Regular travel will be required to meet supporters and visit Asda stores in your region, as well as occasional travel to our London office.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Programme Management to lead the delivery of two flagship initiatives, Inside Job and Choirs Beating Time. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality, consistent delivery across prisons and the community.

You will be based in Birmingham or London. Expensed travel will be part of the role to attend our prisons, for partner meetings and organisational collaboration. It’s essential you can drive, and you have access to a car. We also have a long-standing partnership based in Newcastle.

Working closely with the CEO and COO, you’ll help shape operational strategy, refine delivery processes, and scale the impact of our peer-led employment and music-based rehabilitation programmes. This is a leadership role at the heart of an innovative, mission-driven organisation committed to supporting people leaving prison into meaningful work and purposeful lives.

Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to obtain security clearance from the Ministry of Justice to work within prisons. This clearance enables team members to have key access and carry out their duties safely and effectively.
