Kensington and Chelsea Social Council (KCSC) is the Council for Voluntary Services for the borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Our vision is for powerful, engaged communities driving change and our mission is to strengthen and champion local communities and the voluntary and community sector.
We are a membership organisation, registered as a charity and company limited by guarantee and represent 600 voluntary and community organisations on our database and to whom we aim to provide a range of services, some of which include:
- Advice, guidance and information to help organisations run as effectively as possible
- Bringing voluntary organisations and community groups together to network and support partnership building
- Working closely with residents, resident associations and social action groups to address key local issues and ensure their voices are heard at decision making level
- Advocating on behalf of the local voluntary and community to help influence and shape local decision making

BEING A TRUSTEE
As with any charity, trustees have overall responsibility for making sure it is running well and is doing what it was set up to do. This includes ensuring the charity:
· Spends its money sensibly on the activities it was raised for
· Does not break the rules in its Articles - the charity’s governing document
· Continues to meet our commitments to the communities we serve in accordance with our charitable objectives
· Follows the law, including preparing reports and accounts to send to the Charity Commission
A NEW TREASURER
Our current Treasurer has been serving on the Board since 2021 and has supported the organisation through a difficult economic climate and has helped shape and improve the way in which trustees monitor income and spend through a system of key performance indicators that are reported on. His commitment, time and financial knowledge he has brought to the role has been valued and made our financial reporting more robust over the years. Upon stepping down the incumbent is willing to support the incoming treasurer over a period of time to ensure a smooth transition into the organisation.
We are therefore seeking an experienced and committed individual to join the Board and take up the role of Treasurer. Ideally someone who lives or works in the borough but more importantly has an understanding of charity finances and has possibly had a previous role as Treasurer.
The Treasurer Role primarily is as follows:
· Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements
· Making sure that the financial resources of KCSC meet its present and future needs
· Ensuring that KCSC has an appropriate Reserves and Investment policy
· Preparing and presenting financial reports to the Finance & Personnel Sub Committee and the Board in collaboration with the CEO and Director of Operations
· Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place and are compliant
· Advising on the financial implications of KCSC’s strategic plans
· Keeping the Finance and Personnel Sub Committee and the Board informed of its financial duties, responsibilities and obligations
· Advising on the preparation / submission of financial reports to funders and the Charity Commission
· Overseeing and advising on financial risk and financial management of KCSC
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience of charity accounting and able to provide guidance on ensuring the organisation adheres to charity accounting principles and policies. Previous experience of being on a charity board would be preferable although not essential. However, a commitment to the furtherance of the voluntary and community sector and its role within civil society and subscribing to our stated mission and values is important.
THE COMMITMENT
The Treasurer will need to commit to attending a total of 8 Board/Sub Committee meetings a year as well as spending a few hours each month on attending additional internal meetings with CEO/Director of Operations/Chair on financial matters.

What happens next?
Once we receive your application, it will be assessed based on what we are looking for as specified above and you will be notified of the outcome. Outside Edge Theatre Company, which is the UK’s only theatre company and participatory arts charity focused on addiction, is recruiting our next Chair of the Board of Trustees.
For the past 25 years, we have created theatre productions about issues related to addiction and offered free drama activities to help people at-risk and affected by addiction to live healthier lives. Over the last year we supported 837 people, and they attended 504 creative activity sessions a total of 5,408 times.
Our inclusive weekly arts activities encourage service users and audiences to develop healthy habits, discover new talents and reclaim centre stage in their own lives. THE ROLE OF A TRUSTEE
As a Trustee, you will be part of a Board that sets the strategic direction and ensures robust governance of the charity. You will work in partnership with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team to oversee the delivery of our objectives and safeguard the charity’s future. Training and support will be provided for all new trustees.

- Legal and Compliance - Robust governance is critical to maintaining the trust of our stakeholders and the integrity of our work. We are seeking trustees with expertise in legal and compliance matters to help us navigate an evolving regulatory landscape, manage risk effectively, and ensure our policies and practices meet the highest standards.

The Board is chaired by Rebecca Crook and supported by a strong leadership team including CEO Dr Tessy Ojo CBE. Purpose: The primary purpose of the Nominations Committee is to identify, evaluate, and recommend candidates for appointment as Trustees of The Diana Award. This committee ensures that the Board has the appropriate mix of skills, expertise, and diversity to effectively govern the organisation and fulfil its mission.
Membership: The Chair of the Nominations Committee (a Trustee) A minimum of two other Trustees CEO (ex officio member) Any additional members as deemed necessary (e.g., board secretary or HR support)
Frequency of Meetings: The committee will meet as required, typically monthly, and more frequently when necessary for the recruitment process

About the Stephen Dodgson Charitable Trust
The Stephen Dodgson Charitable Trust was established in 2015 to support musicians (including professional, student, schools music groups and community groups) and celebrate the music and legacy of British composer Stephen Dodgson (1924–2013). Stephen Dodgson had a long, distinguished and multifaceted career as a composer, Professor at the Royal College of Music and Radio 3 broadcaster. His musical voice could be both playful and deeply evocative, and he was much loved as a mentor to younger generations of musicians that worked with and taught.
The Trust awards grants to musicians, ensembles, festivals, educational institutions and arts organisations that perform, record or raise awareness of Dodgson’s music in line with the Trust’s charitable aims. The Trust responds to external grant applications and we also curate our own artistic and commemorative projects. A small, dedicated Board of Trustees works closely with the Trust CEO to guide and support the organisation’s work, ensuring funds are used thoughtfully and make a lasting, meaningful difference to the classical music community.
Recent projects also include a beautiful centenary book, a collection of essays and fond reminiscences about Stephen Dodgson – the man and the musician – which came out in 2024.

About the Role
The Trust is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board and take the lead in overseeing the charity’s finances. This is a key role, offering the chance to make a direct impact on the Trust’s ability to support musicians and projects with confidence and transparency.
The Treasurer is responsible for both strategic oversight and hands-on financial management — from preparing budgets and reports to supporting the Chair, CEO and fellow Trustees in financial planning and risk management. This rewarding role will help many interesting and worthwhile projects come to fruition and includes plenty of opportunities to enjoy attending concerts and other similar events. (Recent events include two epic concerts featuring major Dodgson works at St John’s Smith Square, the opening night of this year’s Barnes Music Festival and a Snape Maltings performance of Dodgson’s four-act opera Margaret Catchpole.)
This role would suit someone with financial management skills or similar, and a fair knowledge of and interest in classical music, arts funding, and charitable work more generally. A good communicator who enjoys working collaboratively with others and is enthusiastic about the opportunity to promote music and musicians – especially young musicians will thrive in this role.

Key Responsibilities
As a Trustee
- Help guide the Trust’s overall strategy and governance
- Ensure the charity’s funds are managed responsibly and in line with our objectives
- Contribute to grant-making decisions and long-term planning
- Act in the best interests of the Trust and support our mission and values
- Represent the Trust at sponsored performances and events
As Treasurer
- Maintain an overview of the Trust’s financial health
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations: bookkeeping, invoice payments, bank statement reconciliations
- Prepare quarterly bank account reconciliations and financial outlooks for the Board
- Ensure compliance with charity law and financial regulations, including annual reports to the Charity Commission
- Advise on budgeting, cashflow, reserves, and investment planning
- Monitor financial risks and ensure appropriate policies and controls are in place
- Apply at least once a year to HMRC to claim Gift Aid on donations made to the Trust
- Keep Charity Commission and HMRC records up to date
- Work closely with the CEO in aligning financial decisions with impact and priorities, and maintaining contact with ongoing projects
Supporting the Chair
- Assist the Chair in providing leadership and direction for the Board, and enabling the Board to fulfil their responsibilities
- Ensure that the Trust pursues our objects as defined in our governing document, charity law, company law and other relevant legislation/regulations
- Support the Chair in enabling well-rounded and strategic discussions among Trustees
- Work in partnership with the Chair and Trustees to support the CEO and freelance staff, helping them achieve the aims of the organisation

What the Trust Is Looking For
The Trust would welcome someone with the following:
Essential:
- Financial management experience, ideally within or alongside the charity or arts sector
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain finance clearly to others
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g. Excel, Googlesheets, Xero or similar)
- A sound understanding of financial governance and reporting requirements
Desirable:
- An interest in classical music or the wider arts
- Experience working with or advising a charity, trust, arts organisation, or funding body
- A collaborative, thoughtful, and supportive approach

- Attend 3–4 Board meetings per year (virtual or in-person, London)
- Ongoing oversight of financial matters (1–1.5 days per month)
- Occasional availability for guidance or working groups between meetings

We are looking for someone with strong financial understanding and experience to join our Board as a trustee and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee. This role is key to supporting Board members with financial decisions and understanding, providing a link between the Board and the Finance and Audit Committee and working closely with the Director and Senior Leadership Team.
Time commitment: We would normally expect trustees to prepare for and take part in 4–5 Board meetings per year. In addition, you will be expected to prepare for and chair up to 5 Finance and Audit Committee meetings per year. All trustees support the development of key pieces of work and are invited to voluntarily attend the 3 exhibition openings per year and other fundraising, networking and promotional functions. In total, this is estimated as a time commitment of an average of 1 day per month.
Payment: The role is an unpaid voluntary position. Reasonable travel expenses incurred taking part will be met.

What we need from you
You’ll be:
- Volunteering alongside colleagues including the branch coordinator/team leader, Cat Welfare team, branch development manager and Vet team to ensure that cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied
- Support fosterers to follow cat welfare policies and procedures
- Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
- Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified systems
- Attending relevant volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
- With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers
- Represent the branch at relevant meetings
- Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
- Collaborating with the cat adoption team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with our policies and procedures
Time expectation
The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our cat welfare team leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

The Trustee Role
ENN is seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees to lead its Board with strategic insight, collaboration, and a deep commitment to the organisation’s mission. This is a significant and rewarding opportunity to guide the governance of a globally respected charity at a pivotal time in its journey.

Your Responsibilities as a Trustee:
As Chair of the Board, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring the overall effectiveness of ENN’s governance and strategic direction. Membership and Operation of the Board
The ENN Board of Trustees comprises individuals appointed by the Trust Members, selected for their diverse skills, experience, and commitment to ENN’s mission and values. Collectively, the Board provides strategic leadership, ensures good governance, and supports ENN in delivering its charitable objectives.
Trustees are appointed for an initial term of four years and are eligible for reappointment at the discretion of the Trust Members at a General Meeting, in accordance with ENN’s Articles of Association.
The Chair of Trustees is elected by the Board from among its members. The Chair serves for a term of up to three years and may be re-elected for one additional term. This ensures a balance of continuity and renewal in Board leadership.
The Board meets quarterly and may convene additional meetings as required. Trustees are expected to attend meetings regularly and actively participate in subcommittees, working groups, and strategic initiatives as needed.
Time Commitment – And our Commitment to You
Your commitment in an average year is likely to be 4 pre-fixed board meetings, each of half a day. Each of these are preceded by sub-committee meetings, usually of ninety-minutes, and each trustee is expected to participate in one sub-committee. Other committee and ad hoc meetings and additional support will be arranged as agreed. We encourage active participation and engagement, and Trustees often give more time outside of this, on their own terms.
Board meetings are held virtually, with an intention to hold one facilitated face to face meeting at the ENN HQ in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, every two years. Additional sub-committee meetings will be convened remotely.
Ideally you will join the Board in 2025, though we can show some flexibility on this for the right candidate, and in your first few months you should allow for additional time for induction and orientation (including meeting a number of the Leadership Team).
Remuneration
This is an unpaid, voluntary position. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed for attendance at Board meetings and other Trustee activities in line with ENN’s policies. Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary
- To act as the primary contact point for all branch communications with the national Society, the branch committee, and the branch membership.
- Arrange branch meetings, ensure accurate minutes are taken and distributed in accordance with branch rules.
- Ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed.
- Arrange the branch AGM including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations, and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.

The Board of Trustees is committed to continually improving its governance of the Charity, and meets as a whole on a minimum of four occasions in each calendar year. For efficient operational purposes, the Board of Trustees is also sub-divided into two working Committees - the Finance & Risk Committee and the Remuneration & Nominations Committee. We are currently looking for Trustees with access to an established professional network, who can advise our growing organisation and support the delivery of our exciting strategy.
In particular, we would welcome new Trustees with the following areas of expertise:
- Charity Fundraising & Income Generation
- Law
- Accountancy
- IT & cybersecurity in the charity sector or small business
- Professional experience in the NHS We would particularly like to hear from individuals from under-represented or diverse groups
The role of the Trustee is to:
- Ensure that:
- you understand Arthritis Action’s purpose and that you are able to explain how all of its activities are intended to further or support its purpose;
- the Charity pursues its purposes and objectives, as defined in its Articles of Association, and does not apply its resources on activities which are beyond the scope of its purposes and objectives;
- the Charity complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations;
- a high standard of governance is maintained at all times;
- the Charity complies with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and is appropriately accountable to members, the Charity Commission and other stakeholders;
- the Charity’s values, principles and good name are upheld in the delivery of its purposes and objectives.
- Act in the best interests of the Charity, its members and its stakeholders at all times, and either avoid or declare potential conflicts of interest.
- Work with fellow Trustees to:
- set the Charity’s overarching vision;
- shape and drive the Charity’s strategy; and o ensure that the Charity remains focussed on achieving its strategy by setting targets and evaluating performance against these targets.
- Devote sufficient time to prepare for and participate fully in board meetings, committees or ad hoc working groups.
- Contribute actively in leadership and decision making of the Charity, by making balanced and adequately informed decisions with due regard to the long term as well as the short term.
- Ensure efficient and effective management and administration of the Charity, including establishing internal accountability and making sure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place.
- Safeguard the Charity’s assets and resources and ensure the financial stability of the Charity.
- Use any specific skills, knowledge or experience you have to help the Board of Trustees reach quick and sound decisions by leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which you have expertise.
- Maintain confidentiality in respect of all sensitive information.
- Identify and manage risks with a considered, proportionate and balanced approach.
- Appoint and support Arthritis Action’s Chief Executive and monitor their performance.
- Promote the work of Arthritis Action externally.

The Honorary Treasurer is a key voluntary post within Mountain Training England and the wider network of related mountaineering organisations. As a member of the Board of Trustees, the Treasurer shares the responsibility for overseeing the management of the organisation and implementing the strategic objectives of its members.
The Treasurer has an oversight role over all aspects of financial management, working closely with other members of the Board of Trustees to safeguard the organisation financially. They act as an informed reference point for the Chair and other Trustees.
Although it is the Treasurer’s responsibility to ensure proper financial records and procedures are maintained, much of this work is delegated to the Finance and Audit Sub-committee and paid staff.

Role of Mountain Training England Treasurer
- The Treasurer oversees the financial matters of Mountain Training England in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements of the Charities and Companies Acts and reports both quarterly to the Board and to the Members at three Council meetings per year about the financial health of the organisation.
- The Treasurer ensures that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are in place.
- The Treasurer takes the lead on the formulation of policies for finances, reserves and investments.
Specific Responsibilities
- To oversee/verify and present budgets, accounts, management accounts and financial statements to the Board and Members after discussion with the Finance Committee.
- To ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
- To ensure that full and accurate accounts and records are kept.
- In conjunction with the Executive Officer maintain sound financial management of MTE’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the charity’s objects.
- To ensure compliance with relevant legislation e.g. Companies and Charity legislation and contractual agreements with external agencies such as funders and statutory bodies
- Chairing the Finance and Audit Committee in line with its terms of reference and reporting back to the Board.
- Present the annual statement of accounts to the Members at the Annual General Meeting.
- To liaise with designated staff about financial matters.
- Advising on the financial implications of MTE’s strategic and operational plan.
- Ensure that the annual accounts are compliant with the current Charities Statement of Recommended Practice.
- Ensure any recommendations of the independent examiner are implemented.
- Contribute to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.
- Advise on reserves policy and investment policy.
- Ensure that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of MTE or partner organisations.
- Ensure that MTE has sufficient liquidity to meet its future commitments.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE
Considerable experience as a treasurer of similar sized organisations
Some experience of walking, rock climbing or mountaineering.
OR experience of controlling a budget in a small-to-medium-sized (SME) organisation/business
Have an interest in the development of the Mountain Training awards
Financial accounting and reporting experience
Experience of working with charity or educational body accounts
Recognised accountancy qualification e.g. ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA, AAT etc
DESIRABLE
Knowledge of Charity SORP
An understanding of Equity/Inclusion applicable to financial resources
Commitment
As Treasurer you will chair the Finance & Audit Committee, which meets quarterly. You will also be expected to attend four Board meetings and a minimum of one of three Members’ Council meetings per year. Attendance at the AGM is expected to present the annual statement of accounts to members.
Occasional attendance at MTUKI Council meetings and Finance Planning Group meetings is required.
Term
Trustees serve for a maximum of three years and are re-elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. At the end of the first three-year term of office Trustees are eligible for re-election for one further term of three years. From time to time the positions of Treasurer, Vice-Chair and Chair become subject to renewal. The Trustees nominate these positions from the Board and the Council votes to approve them at the AGM.
Expenses
Reasonable travel, parking and subsistence expenses are paid to Trustees, in line with MTE expenses policy.
