Breakthrough T1D is the UK’s leading type 1 diabetes charity, dedicated to funding research, advocating for change, and supporting the T1D community. A year into our exciting rebrand from JDRF to Breakthrough T1D, we’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Research and Involvement Officer to help us build on this momentum.
As a Research and Involvement Officer you will provide administrative support to the Head of Research Operations in managing our UK research portfolio, Type 1 Diabetes Grand Challenge funding and other UK-based funding programmes. This includes providing vital support in the pre- and post-award processes, working closely with research teams, internal colleagues and external stakeholders, as well as ensuring that information about Breakthrough T1D funding opportunities is communicated clearly through our website.
You will also play a key role in delivering our Patient and Public Involvement activities, including ensuring that opportunities to engage people who live with T1D in research are communicated clearly to people affected by T1D and the research community alike.

About you and the role
The purpose of this role is to support engagement with schools and multi-academy trusts by coordinating outreach, responding to enquiries, and helping to deliver our engagement activities. You will work closely with the Engagement Manager to implement engagement plans and ensure effective communication with schools and partners.
You will be supported by the Engagement Manager, Co-Director of Partnerships and Impact, and work closely with the Senior Programme Managers, Programme Managers and Communications team.
You will support the Engagement Manager to deliver our school engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with our organisational goals and funded programme commitments. You’ll be a key first point of contact for schools and Multi-Academy Trusts, assessing their suitability and needs before referring them to the appropriate programme.
Working with the Engagement Manager, you’ll create marketing strategies to generate interest and participation in our programmes through direct mail, digital marketing campaigns, and in-person at conferences and events and meetings with prospective school partners.
You’ll help build the engagement pipeline, support onboarding to ensure a smooth handover for training participants and schools to our programme delivery teams.
This role will be primarily based in London, but will include supporting the engagement of schools in locations across the UK as we scale and develop new hubs. You will be joining a dynamic and growing charity who are passionate about delivering exceptional training, skill sharing, expertise and know-how to advance the quality of food preparation, food service and food education in schools.
You will ideally have an understanding of the education sector and have strong people skills with the ability to build relationships and manage effective partnerships with external organisations.

You'll manage day-to-day relationships with youth and lived experience advocates and have a strong focus on safeguarding and trauma-informed practice.

The role
The head of patient support will report to the director of services and innovation.
As the head of patient support, you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery and development of all services provided by the charity directly to patients. You will ensure the charity’s services programmes and initiatives are aligned with its strategic objectives, deliver high-impact results, and meet the needs of patients, healthcare professionals, and the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (RFL) across all its hospitals and satellite sites. You will play a vital role in driving continuous improvement across the services and creating valuable relationships with key stakeholders across RFL.
The role sits in the services team, which is structured as follows:
The department is led by the director of services and innovation and sits within a unique ‘double directorate’ which unites services with the engagement and communications department. The head of patient support reports to the director of services and innovation. The head of patient support line manages five members of staff: three volunteer managers, the support hub manager/lead and the complementary therapy service manager/lead who manage teams of varying sizes.
The team
The aim of the services department is to directly support the staff and patients of the Royal Free London Trust through providing direct services which enhance their experience. The department is responsible for providing complementary therapy for staff and patients, the support hub information and support centre, and a volunteering team supporting over 500 active volunteers.

Role Overview
