Faith to Faithless are launching a brand new helpline for apostates in the summer of 2023, for people leaving high-control religions, and we’re looking for committed, compassionate volunteers to join us.
You will be a motivated, dedicated, and organised person with great communication skills, who is enthusiastic about volunteering your time and skills to support individuals leaving high-control religions (also known as apostates). You will have lived experience or understanding of the issues apostates face, and a kind and empathic approach to working with others.
We’ll train you to handle calls with confidence, and you’ll be getting valuable experience in supporting service users with multifaceted needs. This is a volunteering role where you can develop your interpersonal skills, help members of our community that need it most, and make a real difference in their lives by helping them to get back on track to living happy, purposeful lives without religion.
Key Tasks and Activities
- To respond quickly and efficiently to calls requesting help, providing a listening service, signposting and information to people who have experienced victimisation due to leaving their religion.
- To deliver work which adheres to high service standards, ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.

- To identify and maintain appropriate boundaries for all callers and recognise when and where to signpost callers for further help/information as appropriate with appropriate support from the apostate services manager

Unfold (previously known as Westminster Befriend a Family) is an established local charity that gets people where they want to be. Powered by volunteers, we support children, young people and families with one to one mentoring and peer support groups across Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea. We have a dynamic, committed, open and friendly board, and we're seeking two new trustees to join us, bringing skills and experiences from the not-for-profit or public sectors.

Pupils in a pupil referral unit have been permanently or temporarily removed from their mainstream school due to different challenges, often resulting in experiencing one or more of the following; low self esteem, low attainment levels, friendship breakdown, feeling misunderstood and lacking in purpose, direction and motivation. In addition, they are often experiencing/experienced family breakdown, peer pressure, rebellious behaviour, family issues and concerns or bulling.
As mentor to a young person between the ages of 11-16, you will meet together on a weekly basis initially at your mentees school, encouraging and motivating your mentee to make steps towards positive change.
Often faced with the increase likelihood of challenges experienced due to being in a pupil referral unit, trained in positive psychology and coaching style techniques by Unfold, you will inspire your mentor to see challenges as opportunity, broadening their horizons as to what they can achieve.
What impact will this have?
We have seen positive change in the lives of young people through our mentoring. We have seen young people’s confidence increase, changes in future aspirations, positive and healthy relationships being built, a new outlook on life and beautiful smiles.
Commitment
You will have a total of 24 weekly sessions of around 1-2 hours, meetting during school hours, in most cases, for a minimum of 4 weeks. The programme is designed for sessions to begin within school whilst you build a relationship with your mentee, sessions will then aim to be held outside of school hours, and depending on the need of your mentee, sessions may then be in person, virtually or a mixture of both. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.
Attending monthly group online supervision sessions, 6:00-7:00pm every second Thursday of the month. Our group supervision sessions delivered by Unfold staff provide a space for further training, sharing of opportunities and a space for mentors to support each other through their mentoring journeys.
Training
- Through our comprehensive training and ongoing support, you will develop skills in positive psychology and coaching style techniques, cover topics including safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach and the growth mindset all of which will help you to effectively support someone to making steps towards positive change.
- Mentors have a designated Programme Officer, offering 1-2-1 support when you need it.

HF Mencap supports people with learning disabilities, autism and developmental conditions. You will ensure high standards of governance and legal compliance but need not have previous experience as Company Secretary.
What will you be doing?
HF Mencap is the only disabilities charity in Hammersmith and Fulham that focuses solely on people with learning disabilities, autism, and other developmental conditions.
The Charity provides a wide range of service-user led activity, summarised in four projects: advocacy for families of young people with learning disabilities, a parent led forum for those with children and young people up to 25 with additional needs and learning disabilities, a youth development project for young adults, and a day service where the focus is on peer support and skills development through a range of inclusive activities.
As Company Secretary you will lead on maintaining high standards of governance and ensuring legal compliance.
As a Trustee you will help HF Mencap continue to provide the highest standards of professional, specialist support and care for the people who use our services and set a clear, ambitious direction for the charity’s future. The Trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring the charity is well-run and meets legal requirements, charitable objectives, and those of good governance. What are we looking for?
Somebody based in London with a corporate governance, legal or business background. It is desirable but not essential to have previous Trustee and/or Company Secretary experience as appropriate training and mentorship can be provided. You do need to be organised, methodical, and able to ensure that HF Mencap fulfils its obligations both as a charity and limited company.
We are also very keen to hear from you if you have lived experience of a learning disability and/or autism or are a parent or carer of someone who does. Alternatively, you may have direct experience of working with people who do.

Who are Acorns Children's Hospice?
A parent never imagines their child will be diagnosed with a life limiting or life threatening condition. But when the unimaginable happens, Acorns Children’s Hospice steps in. Our dedicated teams provide specialist tailored care, including complex medical care, short breaks and emotional and practical support for babies, children and young people and their families, at our three hospices in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester as well as in the community.
Why we need you
At Acorns we know that children and young people growing up with a poorly brother or sister often have less attention from parents and more worries and responsibilities than their peers. Acorns has a dedicated Sibling Support Team who run Sibling Group sessions to provide fun experiences for young people and allow them to meet others who may be in a similar situation to them. Sibling activities include arts and crafts, games, sporting activities and fun trips out.
What you'll be doing
- Volunteering alongside our Sibling Support team
- Attending a Sibling Group planning session with our Sibling Support team every couple of months to hear about plans for forthcoming activities.
- Attend a Siblings Group session once a month, joining in with the activities.
Our Sibling Group sessions for the Gloucester area, usually take place at Hartpury Village Hall. Although you may be asked to join us at our Worcester Hospice for initial training and have the opportunity to visit the hospice again when we have siblings visiting or staying with us.
How much time will it take?
Sibling Volunteers complete our online basic training modules and our in-person sibling training session which together take 4-5 hours to complete. Once trained, volunteering with us is flexible but we ask for a commitment of one Sibling Group session per month and hospice-based sibling volunteering on an adhoc basis.

This is an exciting time at the Anne Frank Trust UK.
We are an education charity. Through learning about Anne Frank and the Holocaust, we empower young people aged 9 to 15 to recognise and challenge all forms of prejudice. Founded in 1991 by friends of Anne’s father Otto, we are the UK partner of the Anne Frank House Amsterdam.
We are looking to grow, building on our great achievements over the last few months:
- In 2023 we reached a record 119,000 young people through the three strands of our education programme – (i) our live online learning events open to all schools, (ii) our workshops and peer education delivered in person in schools across the country, and (iii) our ambassadors programme, which provides individual support and life-changing group opportunities for disadvantaged young people who have a long-term commitment to challenging prejudice.
- As we continuously develop our programmes, our impact is increasing, and our evidence of this impact is outstanding. The latest report from our research partners at the University of Kent shows, for example, that our positive impact on young people’s attitudes towards Jews has increased by 59% since 2019. Of our young peer educators, 83.3% make significant progress in their knowledge of prejudice, and 87.6% become more positive towards at least one other group of people different from themselves.
- In January 2024, HM Queen Camilla became our first Royal Patron.
- Nicola Cobbold, our new Chair of Trustees, brings wide-ranging operational and strategic experience from not-for-profit settings, as well as excellent networks in the Jewish community and beyond.
- Our new Development Director, Ruth Berenblut, arrived in post in October 2023, she has produced an appropriately ambitious plan for fundraising growth, and is recruiting a new team to deliver it.

We’re looking for a further 12 admin volunteers to help with our daily operations. We have a variety of ways you can get involved:
- Responding to client requests and enquiries
- Managing and updating company databases

- Drafting and mailing client correspondence and newsletters
- Organising events, scheduling meetings, and making travel arrangements

We’ve designed our volunteering programme to be flexible and adaptive to you. All volunteering is 100% remote and you’re supported fully by our team. You control what you do and how many hours per week you want to volunteer. Some roles may require an Enhanced DBS check. If your application is successful, we will ask for a donation towards the cost of your enhanced DBS check if it's required for your role. This cost is £20.60.

Volunteers will not be engaged in “Regulated Activity” as defined by Schedule 4 to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (as amended). This includes assisting people with personal or health care, and undertaking activities with children that are not supervised by staff.
A DBS check will be required as part of this role and will be carried out during the vetting checks of successful applicants.
