Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant will assist all aspects of the finance function. This role will include purchase ledger, processing expenses, processing credit card transactions, managing purchase orders, cash book entries and general administration duties. In addition to this, you will support the Finance Team, maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within The Children’s Trust.

This role is not open to sponsorship.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Expenses processing and payments
• Credit card processing and reconciliation
• Assisting with the Purchase Ledger Function (Holiday cover only)
• Reconciling supplier statements
• Assist Fundraising Finance Lead with Fundraising daily banking and processing (Two days per week and holiday cover)
• Raising Fundraising invoices
• Monitoring the accounts inbox and supporting suppliers with any queries (Holiday cover only)
• Responding to queries and requests from other staff members within the organisation
• Cash book postings onto finance system
• Month-end journals
• Manage the paper filing
• Answering the telephone
• General bookkeeping and administrative duties
• Manage and monitor capex spend (monthly)
• Manage and maintain PO accrual and Invoice approvals
• Petty cash
• Assist in preparing year end accounts and with help, deal with auditor queries
• Help cover other areas of the finance team especially during busy periods

The Children’s Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with acquired brain injury, providing expert rehabilitation, education, therapy, and care at our national specialist centre in Tadworth, and to children and their families across the UK, via our Brain Injury Community Service.

What experience and track record do you have?

It’s not essential you tick every box. But the more boxes you can tick the better. It goes without saying, we can help you gain and learn from the experiences you haven’t had yet.

• Education and/or teaching: Knowing how the MAT and schools system works is a must. Knowing who does what PPM role in schools will help bring the right people in the right conversations and the right time. Knowing and understanding the kinds of problems and types of conversations school leaders and teachers is also essential for this role

• Conference production: researching topics, inviting and booking speakers, crafting promotional materials, shouting loudly and proudly about the events and filling up spaces.

• Project management: Planning, tracking and delivering on project objectives across several workflows on time, every time. Managing multiple audiences who are likely to be at different stages of their engagement cycle.

• Customer Relationship Management: designing, building and automating CRMs including sales pipeline design and management eg Hubspot and Airtable

• Copywriting (and digital marketing and email workflow design): designing and writing posts and emails that convert - whether than be speaker invitations, promotional posts or conference onboarding emails.

• Digital marketing integration and automation: integrating and automating digital marketing platforms like eg MailChmip, Hubspot, Airtable and Zapier. Automating drip campaigns and email workflows.

Dr Jenner’s House, The Chantry, is a site of profound global historical significance, recognized as the birthplace of vaccination. The Opportunity

The Jenner Trust is seeking a dynamic and experienced Development Manager to join our team during a pivotal phase of growth and development, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of a globally significant heritage site.

Working collaboratively in a small team with the Museum Director, Chairman, and Trustees, you will be instrumental in driving our fundraising efforts, securing vital income, and building sustainable relationships that will ensure the long-term preservation and educational outreach of Dr Jenner’s House. A key focus will be on developing and implementing a robust capital fundraising strategy and cultivating major grant giving organisations and individual donors.

This role is funded for 18 months through the NLHF and is critical to achieving our ambitious longer-term goals, leading up to the international celebrations around the 50th anniversary of smallpox eradication in 2030 and beyond. Although there will be a requirement to be present in the Museum at certain times, we are open to discussions on hybrid or flexible working arrangements for this post.

Key Responsibilities

As our Development Manager, you will:

Strategy & Leadership:

• Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the museum’s comprehensive Fundraising Strategy, establishing clear action plans, KPIs, and targets.
• Establish and facilitate a Fundraising Leadership Group comprising Trustees, staff, volunteers, and external consultants to leverage expertise and resources for fundraising activities.
• Ensure the Fundraising Strategy incorporates ongoing work with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, particularly for the restoration of the Temple of Vaccinia and The Chantry.

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship:

• Develop and nurture long-term relationships with new and existing individual donors, high-net-worth individuals, corporates, and foundations to build a robust pipeline of future support.
• Drive a proactive stewardship programme for all potential and existing donors, ensuring exceptional donor care and fostering sustained engagement.
• Support the development and delivery of the museum’s patron schemes in close collaboration with the Chairman of the Trustees.

Income Generation & Grant Management:

• Identify and review new avenues for potential capital and revenue grant funding opportunities (unrestricted and restricted).
• Lead and coordinate compelling grant funding applications to a diverse range of potential funding bodies, including NGOs, Trusts, Foundations, philanthropists, and local authorities.
• Inspire new and existing supporters to join the museum’s membership and/or donor schemes, significantly increasing the museum’s income (both revenue and capital) to meet agreed targets.
• Ensure grant-funded projects are appropriately managed, and all requisite monitoring and evaluation reports are submitted to funding bodies on time.

Communications & Engagement:

• Produce engaging copy and content for newsletters and assist with external communications, including social media, press releases, and other PR and marketing opportunities, to promote fundraising initiatives.
• Organise and manage fundraising and donor cultivation events, ranging from low-level individual giving activities to major high-level events, especially plans for the 50th anniversary of the eradication of smallpox in 2030.

With such a small staff team we are looking for a candidate who is able to work collaboratively and to support other staff and Trustees in securing the future for the Trust.

Skills and Experience

WHAT IS OUR SECOND HOME

We are a youth movement that empowers people with refugee backgrounds to build community, become leaders, and flourish into adulthood in the place that they call home.

We are looking for a highly engaging Leadership & Volunteering Manager to lead and grow our leadership training programming, and to lead on the recruitment, development and retention of our pool of volunteers. You will work across our various hubs to ensure all volunteers are well-supported, feel valued, and are making meaningful contributions to OSH’s mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership Training & Development

• Oversee and continue to codify OSH’s LIT (Leaders in Training) course, including in-person and online sessions, and mentoring LITs on their first residential. This will include hands-on delivery, managing logistics, and working with volunteers and facilitators.

• Co-design and develop other leadership programmes for young people.

• Support young people from refugee backgrounds to move from participants to leaders within OSH.

• Lead the delivery of training and induction for new and returning volunteers in hubs, at pre camp training days and leaders retreats. This includes safeguarding, group dynamics, facilitating groups, and OSH values, but will also include identifying gaps and trends in skills and experiences.

• Help shape the pedagogy and outcomes of OSH’s leadership programmes.

Volunteer Strategy & Recruitment

• Ensure there is an active pipeline of people signing up for the LIT course

• Design and implement a volunteer recruitment strategy to attract a diverse range of volunteers from within OSH and externally.

• Build partnerships with universities, youth networks, and professional communities to widen reach.

• Develop inclusive recruitment materials and accessible application processes.

Volunteer Engagement

• Develop progression pathways for volunteers.

• Ensure an active culture of feedback and reflection within leadership and volunteering.

• Track volunteer impact and progression.

• Coordinate check-ins, socials, and wellbeing support for volunteers.

• Work closely with the whole team to ensure volunteer experiences are safe, rewarding, and well-held.

Operations & Evaluation

• Maintain volunteer records and communications using Beacon (OSH’s CRM).

• Monitor data on volunteer recruitment, attendance, retention, progression, and impact.

• Contribute to fundraising work, for example by ensuring there is a regular supply of case studies for OSH programmes.

• Collaborate with colleagues to share impact and improve practice.

Other duties

• Getting involved in OSH events in the evenings and at weekends, including residentials. These are overnight trips from 2 to 5 nights

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

• Excellent facilitation, training, and communication skills.

• Strong experience managing volunteer programmes and/or leadership development.

• Experience designing leadership training or curriculum.

• Understanding of and training in safeguarding in youth settings.

• A deep understanding of inclusive, trauma-informed, and youth-centered approaches.

• Experience supporting young people from marginalised backgrounds, ideally those with lived experience of the asylum system.

• Experience volunteering or working in residential programming.

Communications and stakeholder engagement
