Job Title: Employment Consultant (South Midlands)
Location: Home-based with significant travel across designated region
Salary: £32,208 (+ cost of living increase from October 2025)

At the Poppy Factory, we help armed forces veterans with health conditions to find meaningful and sustainable employment after service. This often means overcoming significant barrier to employment. Our aim is to empower veterans, help them to recognise their unique skills and give them the confidence to move forwards in their career.
As an Employment Consultant, you will be assisting veterans across the region back into work. Based at your home, but with extensive travel, you will help with application materials, overcome challenges, and connect with employers. You will also work alongside professionals in other services such as health or welfare to ensure that the veterans have access to all the support they need to overcome barriers to gain and retain employment.

- A collaborative mindset. You will enjoy working as part of a team with colleagues based across the UK who support each other in what can sometimes be a challenging role. You will also work closely with many other organisations for the benefit of the veterans you will be supporting.
- Motivation and commitment. It takes hard work, tenacity and time to help people reach their employment goals. You will sometimes be helping people in challenging circumstances who need intensive support to move forwards.
- This is hugely varied role and no two days are the same. You will often need to balance competing priorities or quickly shift focus depending on the needs of the people you will be supporting.
- Experience of and confidence in supporting people with complex challenges such as, health issues, substance use, insecure housing, criminal records, or other barriers to employment.
- You will be an emotionally resilient individual who can effectively navigate challenging circumstances and provide unwavering support to those in need.

Milton House is a 15-bed mixed-gender accommodation service in Islington, supporting adults facing multiple and complex challenges. With a small and dedicated staff team, we provide tailored casework to residents whose needs may include mental or physical health issues, substance use, histories of offending, or support with living skills and wider aspirations. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant will assist all aspects of the finance function. This role will include purchase ledger, processing expenses, processing credit card transactions, managing purchase orders, cash book entries and general administration duties. About the role:

You’ll be working with the local church to manage the delivery of Resurgo's award-winning Spear Programme. Over the last 20 years, Spear has supported more than 11,000 young people across the UK with the work-ready skills and mindset they need to succeed in employment, no matter the challenges they face. In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
The Lead Coach is primarily responsible for overseeing the training room and group sessions with young people. You will help shape the training environment and will confidently adapt and deliver materials and sessions to work within the group’s development towards work readiness.
Delivery of Spear Programme - Group and 1:1 coaching [60%]
- Preparing and coaching Spear Foundation sessions and 1-1s, ensuring that young people are engaged, retained and work-ready by the end of this initial phase of the programme.
- Building relationships with young people on the programme and managing culture, and attitudes in the training room.
- Adapting the Spear coaching material according to the needs of the Trainees and managing behaviour effectively.
Delivery of Spear Career [20%]

Training the Asssistant Coach [10%]
- Contributing towards the training and developing of the Assistant Coach by modelling excellent coaching and giving regular feedback.

- Developing relationships with Job Centres and local referral agencies to ensure that the maximum number of Spear Trainees are enrolled on each programme. This involves liaising with referral agencies, active face-to-face recruitment and monitoring recruitment statistics.

- Continually engaging in professional development, including being part of Resurgo’s wider coaching programmes and supporting the Church Partnerships Managers with overall team training and development.

About the role
The Refugee Council supports separated children across England and part of our service is a team of staff based at the port of Dover, working 24/7 to provide a temporary safeguarding service for children arriving there, ensuring that their basic needs are met while they await transfer to the care of a local authority. The unit is reactive to the needs of clients, who may arrive at any time, and staff are expected to cover a variety of shifts.

Some of your key duties and responsibilities are;
- Management Accounts and payroll

Choice: We have several set dates in schools each year, usually in Summer term and in late August into September - which you may be offered and can choose whether to take or not. We’re also looking to expand our work in the months in between.
The Role
We’re looking for experienced, energetic and confident freelance facilitators to help us deliver our tried-and-tested activities — from team-building and orienteering to improv games, problem-solving challenges, debates, archery, and axe throwing. We don’t expect anyone to be experienced in all of these - every member of our team of freelancers has their own areas of expertise and choose to be deployed on particular activities that most suit their skills and experience.
You’ll be working with a diverse range of schools, from primary and prep schools, right through secondary to sixth forms, facilitating sessions to inspire teamwork, communication, resilience, and leadership.
You’ll always be working on a day under the guidance of one of our Founder Directors, Tom and Alex.
Important to know
We are looking for freelancers who may be available for work and who fit our ethos, values and activities to whom we can offer as and when it comes in.
We couldn’t do what we do without our core team of trusted freelancers. We look after those we work with by offering regular training and observation opportunities so they can expand their repertoire.
However, joining our pool of freelancers will not involve a fixed contract of employment or a guarantee of regular work. Our existing freelancers work with us anywhere between 3 - 15 days per/year. Such work offers very useful supplementary income alongside other roles at other organisations (or their own) rather than a core income. Our busiest times of year are:
September — where we deliver team building/bonding days for new year groups
May, June and July — where we deliver similar days but usually as part of school activity weeks
We anticipate further growth at these times, and also are looking to expand our offer to more indoor/lower cost days in the Autumn/Spring term. And to deliver these we will need more staff!
Responsibilities

Facilitate pre-designed Hidden Leaders sessions and activities in schools

Engage and motivate participants, creating an inclusive and supportive environment

Brief, instruct, and ensure safety during practical activities

Encourage reflection and discussion to link activities to personal and team development

Adapt delivery style to suit different audiences, group sizes, and abilities
-
Take care of activity equipment and ensure activity areas are safe and ready to use

Represent Hidden Leaders professionally in schools

Adhere to our high delivery standards and health safety and our strict safeguarding obligations at all time
We need you to have…

Significant experience facilitating group activities with young people (e.g. classroom teaching, team-building, outdoor education, public-speaking training, drama/improv, youth work)

Confident communicator and able to deliver exceptionally engaging sessions to groups of up to 30 to all ages from KS2 to Sixth Form

Reliable, punctual, and comfortable arriving at a school to help us set up at 8am, and be packing down with us afterwards

A big sense of fun and joy in what you do - we don’t do dry

The ability to relate to young people in a way that isn’t “teacherly” but at the same time firm and in-command

Strong situational awareness and ability to manage group safety effectively

Flexible, adaptable, and able to think on your feet to differentiate activities in the moment

Willingness and ability to travel to different locations across the South East
A bonus if you have…

(For outdoor education experts): Outdoor activity instruction qualifications (e.g., Archery GB Leader / Outdoor First Aid / Lowland Leader)

Have any experience leading or co-leading events or expeditions and so be able to step into the shoes of Day Director if we need you to (and obviously be remunerated accordingly)

Any experience running activities not listed above, but that you’d think schools would love as part of our Team Challenge days

Are confident speaking in front of larger groups such as school assemblies or full year-group briefings

Clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
