About Us

We are a small grassroots charity based in Southwark and the only surviving tenants’ federation in London. For decades, we have supported tenants and residents to defend their housing rights, challenge poor conditions, and have a collective voice in decisions that affect their homes and communities.

Our social housing advice service supports people facing homelessness, disrepair, evictions, and housing management issues, with a strong focus on empowerment and tenant-led action.

The Role

We are seeking a Volunteer Grant Officer to help us secure funding to sustain and grow our vital work. This role is crucial to keeping an independent, tenant-led voice alive in London.

You will work closely with a small, committed team and help ensure our advice service remains accessible to local residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Research grant funding opportunities suitable for a grassroots, tenant-led organisation
• Draft and submit grant applications to trusts, foundations, and statutory funders
• Maintain a simple funding pipeline and track deadlines
• Work with staff and volunteers to gather service data, outcomes, and case studies
• Assist with basic funder monitoring and reporting

About You

Essential:

• Strong written communication skills
• Good organisational skills and reliability
• Commitment to social justice and housing rights

Desirable (but not essential):

• Experience of grant writing or fundraising
• Knowledge of social housing, tenant organisations, or advice services

A bit about this role

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!
 

You can expect us to

You'll be

• help set up and/or man stalls at events
• help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections
• help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances

A bit more information about this role and the team

This volunteer opportunity is perfect for anyone who enjoys being part of local community events and wants to make a meaningful difference for cats across the South West. As a fundraising events helper, you will support a range of enjoyable activities such as craft fairs, coffee mornings, quiz nights, county shows and supermarket collections. Your support at these events helps raise the vital funds needed to care for cats and kittens in need.

Every event you take part in truly makes a difference. Even small amounts go a long way. Just £5 can feed a cat in our care for 25 days, helping us provide the food, warmth and comfort they rely on.

You do not need previous experience. All you need is a friendly attitude, a willingness to get involved and an interest in helping cats. Whether you prefer setting up stalls, chatting to members of the public or supporting activities throughout the day, there is a place for you on the team. Any time you can give will help us continue our work and support cats who need it most.

This role is very flexible. You can choose to volunteer at a single event for a couple of hours or join multiple events throughout the year. We will keep you updated with upcoming opportunities so you can choose what suits you best.

Wherever you are based in the South West, you will have full support from your fellow volunteers and the Fundraising Hub team. They are always available to offer guidance, resources and encouragement.

We will support you every step of the way.

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. Role: Cafe Volunteer: Create warm moments by serving delicious coffee, tea and tasty treats while sparking friendly conversations that brighten someone’s day. 

About Birmingham Hospice 
For over 100 years, Birmingham Hospice has been caring for people with life-limiting illnesses across Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell. We believe everyone deserves dignity, comfort and choice at the end of life. Every day, we support around 670 patients and their families, whether in our hospices, in the community, or in their own homes.

Why this café matters 
Our new Hive in the Park café will be a warm, welcoming space where local people can enjoy affordable food and drinks, connect with others, and feel part of the community. By volunteering, you’ll help create a place of friendship and support and belonging. 

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers who would like to assist us in the day to day running of the community café! 

What will I do? 

• Serve drinks and meals, help with serving customers and using the till. 

• Keep the café tidy and welcoming.Be a friendly face for visitors. 

What do I need? 

• Basic kitchen, numeracy and IT skills. 

• A friendly, approachable attitude.You will be part of a friendly, team and there will always be someone nearby to lend a helping hand. 

• Good communication and teamwork.Reliability and willingness to learn 
  (An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants). 

When and where? 

Set in Rookery House, in the beautiful Rookery Park, Erdington, our café will be open seven days a week, Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm, Saturday 9am to 2.30pm and Sunday 10am to 2.30pm

Sexpression:UK provides high quality, comprehensive relationships and sex education workshops to young people between the ages of 11-18 in schools and youth groups. We operate across the UK through our unique network of affiliated branches and volunteers based at universities and students’ unions in 15 towns and cities.
