We are recruiting for a Senior Creative Copywriter to join on a full-time basis, working 35 hours per week on a permanent contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the senior in-house creative team, inspiring colleagues to produce consistently excellent creative work and nurturing our brand. As Senior Creative Copywriter you will work collaboratively with our design, video, brand, fundraising, marketing and communications teams across the charity, to support income generation and extend our audience reach. You’ll line manage our Fundraising Communications Manager, work in creative partnership with our Senior Creative Designer and collaborate with marketing and communications teams.

About you

You’ll be an expert, hands-on, conceptually and audience-focused Creative Copywriter with the drive to consistently deliver strategic creative work that captivates our audiences.

You’ll have experience of delivering bespoke brand workshops and training sessions to a wide range of audiences and you’ll understand the importance of promoting creative excellence and brand messaging consistency across an organisation.
What you’ll focus on:
- Leading on all creative copy concepts for in-house creative projects and composing and crafting engaging copy for campaigns and other comms, across all touchpoints.
- Generating ideas and concepts collaboratively with our designers and videographers to create consistently outstanding creative work across all our creative disciplines.
- Line managing the Fundraising Communications Manager, ensuring workflows, workload and tools facilitate excellence in working practices and delivery.
- Gaining a deep understanding of the Society’s strategies and objectives, key audiences, brand challenges, and project priorities.
- Working with Brand Integration to embed our messaging, proof points and tone of voice to communicate these to the wider organisation, ensuring they are kept up to date and expanded according to the organisation’s strategic needs.
- Develop and delivering training to introduce and embed tone of voice and messaging, running regular specialist writing and creative workshops for marketing colleagues and others across the organisation who create comms materials for our audiences.

Friends of Ibba Girls School (FIGS), which supports Ibba Girls’ Boarding School in South Sudan, is seeking a highly experienced Director of Fundraising and Communications to develop its fundraising strategy, secure new donors, meet ambitious fundraising targets and raise awareness of and support for FIGS through a variety of communication methods.

Friends of Ibba Girls School, South Sudan (FIGS) was set up in 2011 in response to a specific request from local community leaders to help them translate into reality their vision to build and develop a girls’ boarding school in South Sudan in order to enable girls to complete primary and secondary education rather than drop out of school due to poverty and family pressures.
FIGS has raised over £4.9 million over the last 10 years, particularly through relational fundraising from the wide network of individuals who donate through regular giving, mainly in the UK but also internationally. Other sources of funds include schools, churches, trusts and foundations, corporates, and business philanthropists, as well as a yearly campaign through the Big Give Christmas Challenge.
FIGS has a committed and hardworking body of trustees, chaired by Chris Trott, former British Ambassador to South Sudan, and now British Ambassador to the Holy See based in the Vatican City, Rome. The charity currently employs 2 staff who work on fundraising, communications and administration.
In 2023 FIGS Trustees commissioned Windle Trust International (a well-managed UK charity with a long track record of effective work in South Sudan and sub-Saharan Africa) to act as FIGS managing agents in South Sudan, and to provide professional, technical and management advice and support to Ibba Girls Boarding School (IGBS).
Ibba Girls Boarding School (IGBS)
Ibba Girls Boarding School (IGBS) now educates over 300 primary and secondary school girls from across the whole of Western Equatoria State (an area the size of Scotland but less densely populated) and employs 42 staff (teachers, matrons, cooks, grounds maintenance, night guards and other support staff). The school is on a large, 100-acre green campus and provides not only high-quality teaching in the core subjects on the national curriculum, but also a wide range of co-curriculum subjects like drama, debating, sewing, and farming.
Since its opening in 2014, IGBS has become recognised as a tried and tested visible demonstration of the benefits of boarding school education in South Sudan, where most girls drop out from school before the end of primary and very few complete their secondary qualifications. IGBS is making a substantial impact across South Sudan, by providing good quality “all-through” integrated girls’ schooling, for both primary and secondary girls, from any background and of any faith or none.
IGBS is achieving both tangible and intangible measures of success, including reduced drop out from school; excellent exam results; a safe, stimulating, happy and nurturing culture; empowering young women who can exercise leadership locally and nationally for this new nation (independent since 2011). IGBS is now attracting widespread recognition in South Sudan for lifting standards of teaching and learning, and acting as a beacon of light and hope, whose example can gradually ripple out to other schools across South Sudan.
The Opportunity
This is a great moment of opportunity for a highly experienced fundraising and communications professional with a strong and demonstrable track record to play a crucial role (alongside a subgroup of trustees and two paid staff) in reviewing and refreshing FIGS’ fundraising strategy for the short, medium and longer term, and in raising FIGS’ profile through strategic communications. This will support FIGS to reach ambitious fundraising targets to allow us to increase the number of girls in the school to full capacity and implement multiple capital projects on the school campus over the next 5 years. The fundraising challenge also includes deepening and expanding FIGS’ donor base, while sustaining and engaging the large network of existing supporters and loyal donors, supported by effective communications and PR. You will lead and direct the fundraising work and will use your skills across a wide range of fundraising functions, including cultivating gifts from wealthy philanthropists, and through wills and bequests. You will also lead on delivering FIGS’ communications strategy, identifying opportunities to raise its profile with target audiences using a variety of relevant communications channels. You will have experience of digital and social media campaigns, and will oversee the development and dissemination of strategic communications materials in support of FIGS’ fundraising and profile-raising objectives. You will ideally have experience working on projects in fragile or developing contexts and an interest in education and gender equity.
There is plenty to enjoy in the varied work, where one can see visible results not only in FIGS’ fundraising targets, but also in the impact it has on the school, its students and staff, parents and communities across Western Equatoria State and across the nation of South Sudan.
Key Responsibilities
- To support the design and delivery of FIGS’ fundraising strategy and action plan, achieving or exceeding targets and KPIs, both financial and non-financial, as agreed with the Chair of FIGS Trustees, Treasurer and Chair of its fundraising sub-group
- To oversee and deliver FIGS’ communications strategy, and raise its profile with existing and new audiences through strategic communications and PR
- To widen the existing network of donors, based on relationship development and management
- To maintain active engagement with existing supporters and donors
- To identify and generate new fundraising opportunities, from the corporate and philanthropic sectors, as well as from other organizations, groups and individuals
- To generate a pipeline of activities across a range of fundraising streams
- To undertake PR and communications work in order to support the fundraising strategy
- To lead the design and distribution of PR and comms materials, including website, regular newsletter, leaflets, social media.
- To line manage FIGS fundraising and comms staff
- To produce progress reports for FIGS Trustees about fundraising in relation to targets and budget and make recommendations for future workstreams
- To attend key fundraising and supporter events to generate significant income, support and profile
- To act as an ambassador for FIGS
- To ensure fundraising and comms activities are in line with FIGS’ values and policies, relevant legislation and the Fundraising Regulator Code of Practice.
The selection process and how to apply
The post can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis (where part-time is at least 24 hours a week). Hours can be flexible by arrangement. The person will work mainly from home, liaising online with FIGS and WTI Trustees, staff, and volunteers and with the Board of Governors and Head Teacher of the school in South Sudan.
Some travel to fundraising and communications events in London and elsewhere will be needed. A three-year rolling contract will be offered in the first instance, with annual review and the potential for extension, subject to achievement of agreed performance measures and targets. The salary is in the range of £45-70K (or pro rata) depending on track record and experience.

1. Fundraising

- Develop and Lead Fundraising Strategies: Create bespoke, multi-stream fundraising strategies for a range of clients. This includes capital appeals and other large-scale projects, helping clients raise significant funds for transformative goals.
- Income Diversification: Advise clients on how to diversify their fundraising portfolio, reducing reliance on any single income source and building resilience.

About you:

ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager is responsible for leading and developing RABI’s philanthropy and partnerships donor base, focusing on building and nurturing relationships with major donors, trusts and foundations, corporate partners as well as legacy and in-memory supporters (larger funders).
This plays a pivotal role in shaping RABI’s fundraising strategy, identifying major funding opportunities and creating impactful engagement strategies to secure long-term financial support for the charity’s sustainability.
Relationship building is key to this position, communicating effectively with our donors by enhancing and strengthening relations through cultivation tactics and deepening relationships to ensure robust support from these influential stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Philanthropy and Partnerships (P&P) fundraising strategy to drive RABI’s fundraising activities and support long-term sustainability. This includes overseeing the cultivation and stewardship of major donors, trusts and foundations, corporate partners as well as legacy and in-memory supporters (larger funders).
- Report on income and expenditure targets, ensuring targets are met and assisting with budget setting.
- Cultivate, solicit and steward relationships with larger funders, ensuring strong and sustained engagement.
- Develop tailored proposals and partnership packages aligned with potential partners’ priorities and interests.
- Manage, identify and build relationships with key corporate funders, negotiate and manage agreements, ensuring clear communication of expected deliverables.
- Oversee and manage all trust and foundation opportunities, identifying potential funders whilst monitoring and reporting on deliverables and outcomes ensuring timely delivery of all requirements, ensuring compliance with regulations.

- Manage, track and utilise CRM systems (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics) to maintain up-to-date donor data, track progress and provide concise and timely reports on fundraising activities and income and expenditure reports. Analyse donor trends and engagement metrics to optimise fundraising strategies.
- Ensure all fundraising activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including GDPR the CIOF Code of Fundraising Practice and RABI’s internal policies. Make certain the charity’s best practices are upheld in all donor interactions and fundraising activities.
- Responsibility for line management, providing guidance, support and performance feedback to ensure the development and success of team members.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including fundraising, communications, service delivery, business development and external affairs to identify project funding opportunities, share donor insights and collaborate and support the development of other fundraising initiatives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in a senior fundraising role, with a proven track record in securing major funds from larger funders.
- Exceptional major donor management skills, with experience in donor stewardship, partnership development and engagement strategies that build long-term relationships.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of targeting, segmentation and response analysis.Persuasive written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop compelling applications, proposals and donor communications. Capable of tailoring messaging for different audiences and ensuring clarity, consistency and emotional impact.
- Experience of managing a fundraising team and assisting with recruitment and team development.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and manage relationships at all levels, both internally and externally.
- A strategic outlook with the ability to identify fundraising opportunities and take the initiative to drive growth.

As a Debt Advisor (Omni-Channel: Telephone & Video), your primary role will be to provide over-indebted clients with tailored debt advice through various channels, including telephone, WhatsApp, and our network of video advice kiosks located in prisons, hospitals, job centres, town halls, and other community settings. You will help clients start their debt advice journey efficiently, ensuring they receive accurate and effective support.

Essential Criteria:
Experience and Skills:
- Hold a valid Money Advice Service accredited qualification in debt advice to level three or higher
- Minimum 2 years f debt advice experience
- Proven record of good quality debt advice
- Provided casework support
- Experience in a client-facing service envirnment
- CMS experience (Advice Pr preferable)
- Strng IT knowledge and familiar with using Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Teams
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Clear communication skills and a strong command of the English language, oral and written
- Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Advocacy skills
- Ability to remain non-judgmental
- Awareness of, and ability to, understand and empathise with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds and disadvantaged groups living in the community

- Ability to work as part of a team and be open to receiving feedback and learning from others
- Ability to give and receive feedback objectively and sensitively

We undertake advice & support, research, movement building, communications and resourcing work to support, mobilise and advocate for the development of models of managing land that create shared social, economic and environmental benefits. We see systems change as a core value of our work and seek to be transformative, both through externally-facing projects and internal approaches and ways of working.
Our research work supports collective learning related to working on and with the land. We communicate our findings through articles, blogs, podcasts, reports, events, and more - building a shared evidence base to support the development of a just land system. Through our research, we seek to make an impact at a local and a systemic level. We want to create conditions that allow people and communities to thrive, and promote care for the land and environment. We do this work on both a commercial and grant funded basis.
The role holder will lead the full range of Shared Assets’ research projects, from scoping and design through to delivery, follow up and evaluation. They will need to have experience of designing and carrying out research and learning activities with a wide range of partners - including academics, community groups, NGOS and local authorities - in collaborative ways. In the past we have worked on research projects of many scales - from large European Union funded consortia, to smaller, one-off pieces which help a local authority or community organisation move forward with their work. Often our research work involves collaborating with a group of other civil society organisations to provide evidence of why change in the land, food and farming system is needed, and generate action on these issues.
The main areas of work are to: manage and deliver funded research projects (or projects with a research component) with partners, reflect with colleagues on what we are learning within and across workstreams as an organisation and sector, use this knowledge to create new ideas for research work, and support fundraising for these, as part of our ‘infrastructure’ role.
