As a Company Secretarial Assistant, your purpose will be to collaborate with the Company Secretariat team to support Cancer Research UK's Trustees, CEO, Executive team, General Counsel & Company Secretary in delivering an effective and efficient approach to the charity's governance. You will gain exposure to and support the Council and its Committees, internal boards, senior leaders across the organisation, and the Executive team where appropriate.

What will I be doing?

Collaborating with the CEO, General Counsel & Company Secretary, Deputy Company Secretary, and other members of the Company Secretariat team to strengthen the foundations of the Company Secretariat function at Cancer Research UK, including:

• Providing Secretariat support to some of the Council's Committees and other Secretariat meetings:

  • This includes making logistical arrangements for meetings, writing Committee Chair briefings, attending meetings, drafting minutes and actions for approval by the Committee Chair, and liaising with meeting members and senior stakeholders on all aspects of Committee business.

• Improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Company Secretariat activities and processes by creating and/or reviewing standard templates, policies, standard operating procedures and checklists, and technology (including the use of AI).

• Supporting submissions of Cancer Research UK's annual report and accounts, and annual related processes (e.g. declarations of interest).

• Supporting the ongoing management of the charity's organisational policies, requirements, and guidance.

• Supporting the Deputy Company Secretary and collaborating with the Legal team to review Cancer Research UK's group structure, aiming to rationalise and consolidate where appropriate.

• Supporting the Company Secretariat team in organising and delivering internal and external-facing activities relating to the Council and its Committees.

• Providing input into other projects or initiatives when required.

• Supporting the Deputy Company Secretary in maintaining the charity's registers and records of charitable corporate and fundraising registrations.

  • This includes supporting in maintaining compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements in relevant jurisdictions for the group entities and subsidiaries.

What skills will I need?

• Significant experience in Board/Committee administration (including minute-taking and supporting Board and Committee members).

• Proven knowledge of governance requirements and best practices with a strong understanding of what good governance looks like.

  • For example, annual reporting & accounts, disclosures, regulators & commissions (e.g. the charity commission), legal compliance, and policy.

• Strong planning, prioritisation, and organisational skills with a background in managing a complex and diverse workload while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.

• Built relationships at all levels (including senior leaders) using a diplomatic and confidential approach with effective communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.

• Comfortable and efficient using Microsoft Office (including SharePoint, MS Teams, and managing hybrid meetings).

• Ideally, CGI UK qualified (Chartered Governance Institute- formerly ICSA Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators) or equivalent.

The Gender & Peacebuilding Adviser will work within Gender Team and Policy and Advocacy Team to deliver Saferworld’s gender, peace and security (GPS) and gender equality strategy with a focus on ensuring strong links between organisational programmes, research, comms and GPS advocacy at all levels. They will provide technical support in the following areas:

• In close coordination with the Senior Gender Adviser and the Global Policy and Advocacy team lead on the development of GPS advocacy strategies and tools that can be used to effectively influence change beyond direct programmatic impact.
• Advise on producing and disseminating research and analysis and supporting programme and policy teams to produce, disseminate and implement this analysis within a gender-transformative approach.
• Support gender-focused advocacy and communications efforts at sub-national, national, regional and international levels, with a focus on ensuring local and national learning and analysis to feed into and shape international GPS research, policy and advocacy priorities
•  Connect programmatic issues and global policy, advocacy and communications on GPS to ensure they are complementary and conducive to external change based on evidence from the ground; the post-holder will lead an organisational vision and process to ensure advocates across Saferworld work together to increase our collective impact and contribute to collective learning on GPS, in close coordination with the Global Policy and Advocacy Team (GPA).
• Provide advice and support for the implementation of Saferworld’s Gender Equality Strategy in programmes across the organisation, working with country teams and with gender coordinators, advisors and focal points. Provide capacity-strengthening initiatives and coordinate Gender Reference Group meetings, brown bags, and information exchange sessions to facilitate internal knowledge sharing.

About the role

This new role will be part of our Supporter Engagement team, which includes Special and Challenge Events Fundraising, Community Fundraising, Individual Giving and Supporter Care. Our Special Events programme has expanded significantly in recent years, and we
have ambitious plans as part of our new three-year strategy. As part of this, we organise a diverse range of fundraising events, including a Comedy Night, Garden Party, Sports Quiz, Carol Service and Gala dinner.

Working closely with the Head of Supporter Engagement, the Special Events Officer will play a key role in developing and managing our special events programme. This includes overseeing multiple aspects of event planning and execution, collaborating with the Marketing and Communications team to produce high-quality event materials and ensuring that every event runs smoothly. Additionally, you will help manage key relationships and maximise fundraising income.

A key focus of this role will be leading the organisation of our annual Carol Service at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, while also exploring opportunities to develop a new special event that diversifies our income streams and broadens our audience.

Main duties

• Supporting the co-ordination and delivery of our special events programme.

You will ensure delivery of a world class supporter experience using an omnichannel approach, helping our supporters reach and exceed their fundraising targets.

Working with the Digital Fundraising Manager, you will monitor the everchanging virtual challenge environment and consider how best to adapt our activities in order to achieve financial targets and remain innovative and a leader within the sector.

The Role
The Head of Fundraising is a pivotal leadership role, reporting to the CEO and joining the SMT.

You would be responsible for developing, implementing and delivering income generation strategy.

As the sole dedicated income generation specialist, you will take a hands-on approach to all aspects of fundraising and business development, identifying opportunities, building partnerships, securing funding, and maximising income from a diverse range of sources.

The fundraising income is currently c£300,000 per year and they have ambition to grow this to £500,000 over the next three years to ensure that they can continue to be there for older people when they are in need.

You would lead and manage the acquisition of potential donors, cultivate relationships, solicit donations, and engage in ongoing stewardship activities to retain and grow support.

The Candidate
This would suit a a proactive hands on fundraiser, happy to be a sole fundraiser within a wider supportive team.

Someone with a proven track record of securing significant income from at least three of the following individual giving (including High Net Worth and regular giving), trusts/foundations, corporates, community, and/or legacy support.

Introduction

Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis (CF). We fund vital research, improve care, speak out and race towards effective treatments for all. We won’t stop until everyone with cystic fibrosis can live without limits.  CF is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system.  It affects more than 11,000 people in the UK.

In recent years, improvements in the treatments for CF have transformed the symptoms and quality of life experienced by many, but not all of the community.  The enormous leap forward that has been made is both wonderful and challenging and brings new support needs.

With better health, more people with CF now want to plan careers, but need to balance this with management of their condition.  Others still need support with barriers to work or help to navigate their rights at work when they need to focus on their health.  This led us to create Work Forwards, a dedicated programme of career, work and employment support for the CF community.

Project Brief

We are now looking to work with a freelance digital creative producer/editor to deliver some of the project’s key resources.

Working closely with Cystic Fibrosis Trust throughout, the freelancer will provide creative input to identify the most engaging way to execute these resources within the available budget, and will carry out the design and delivery, giving us a set of impactful resources to support people with CF in work and employment.

These resources represent the culmination of work done over the course of the Work Forwards programme so far, and need to be delivered in mid-August 2025 ahead of a major report to our funder, the National Lottery Community Fund, in September 2025.

Key Deliverables

· 6 x 30-90 second videos to explain CF related employment rights to young people affected by CF (scripts and voice-overs are already arranged)

· An engaging, informative resource to help employers understand cystic fibrosis (information content already available, but we would like the freelancer to offer creative input into how this is presented).

Resources must be high quality, accessible and delivered in line with our brand guidelines.

Indicative Budget

There is budget available to deliver this project and this is in the region of £2,500 - £6,000. This must cover all costs to complete this work, including consultant fees, and any materials and resources needed to undertake the project and deliver these resources.

It is accepted that it may be the responsibility of some other providers (including ourselves) to collect and provide some of the information and content required.

Given the available budget, we do not expect this role to involve filming, but we are looking for the freelancer to bring their creative ideas on how we can amplify the project and make the content accessible and engaging.

Role requirements

The successful person will:

· Be a proactive and creative digital storyteller with a strong track record in video editing and producing content for social media

· Have experience in managing the creation of multimedia content / motion design

· Be able to follow brand guidelines and work collaboratively with our brand team

· Be up to date with accessibility guidelines

· Deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines

· Be based in the UK

Your proposal to undertake this work should include:

1. Details of you/your organisation, core skills, experience and competencies.

2. Portfolio of video/multimedia work or previous examples of similar work

3. Details of availability to undertake work distributed across the project period and through to completion.

4. Confirmation of ability to work as an independent freelancer (e.g. Have your own office/IT equipment and the correct tax and NI status to work as a freelancer), and own software/equipment required for the project.

5. Evidence of any professional indemnity insurance/public liability insurance you have in place.

6. Details of how you would fulfil the project brief, the fees you would charge and the steps you would take to deliver the project to budget and timescale.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be assessed according to the following criteria:

· Extent to which the tender understands and meets the brief.

· Previous experience of delivering similar resources to a high standard, in an accessible and engaging format

· Overall quality of the submission.

· Availability to deliver to timeline (please note the final delivery date is not flexible).

· Lived experience of cystic fibrosis – this is not essential but will be a distinct advantage (please note that there is no expectation that the freelancer will need to film with people with CF or meet with people with CF in person)

Programme provides safe and confidential space to unpack experiences of trauma and abuse while developing new strategies, build resilience and healing through growing hearts and minds with the aim to strengthens relationships between mother and children after experiences of abuse.

About the Role

Main part of the role is delivering STAR programme to mother and children in their respective groups as well as planning meaningful activities and trips during half term times. Role is delivered in person through co-location in all three Haringey safe accommodations. Mother’s programme is delivered twice per week during day time while children component of the programme is delivered weekly in the afternoons between 3:45pm-5:30pm in each house. This role provides holistic support through ongoing feedback collection and identifications of important themes and topic which are developed further to best support our families as well as developing meaningful partnerships with community networks.
