This new role brings fundraising and communications together for the first time. By unifying storytelling, campaigns, and fundraising propositions, the Director will amplify Calibre’s voice, grow income, and ensure that profile-building and fundraising reinforce one another.

This is a strategic and hands-on role, setting direction, managing key relationships and leading change, while securing income and providing clarity and structure for the teams. As Director of Fundraising and Communications, you will:

• Sit on the Executive Management Team alongside the CEO, COO, and Head of Communities & Learning, driving strategy and cultural change
• Develop and deliver an ambitious strategy across both functions, aligning activity to drive income, membership growth, and visibility
• Build on Calibre Audio’s respected legacy programme, deepen trust and foundation partnerships, and explore untapped opportunities with major donors and individual supporters
• Personally manage and cultivate high-value relationships with trusts, foundations, and major donors, while shaping new opportunities in corporate and individual giving
• Strengthen legacy and in-memory giving, and oversee compelling member appeals
• Lead the development of a powerful case for support, positioning Calibre as a force for change in literacy, disability inclusion, and mental health
• Partner with the Head of Marketing to deliver bold, creative campaigns that amplify Calibre’s national voice and directly support fundraising

JOB DESCRIPTION

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
We are looking for an exceptional fundraiser with significant experience in successfully fundraising from trusts and foundations as well as governments.

The Senior Officer – Statutory & Foundations will join a highly collaborative, supportive and ambitious Development Team and will play a key role in sustaining and growing income from trusts & foundations as well as governments. The ideal candidate will be able to work in close collaboration with Senior staff across the organisation to identify and strategize responses to grant opportunities turning complex issues into clear and persuasive proposals. The Senior Officer – Statutory & Foundations will also be responsible for initiating, developing and deepening relationships with a global roster of trusts and foundations in support of TRAFFIC’s strategic priorities, primarily focusing on six-, seven- and eight figure opportunities.

This is a diverse role with key responsibility for the delivery of TRAFFIC’s global fundraising strategy and income streams. Whilst proposal development and writing is central, the role regularly extends to leading, organising and coordinating effort both within TRAFFIC offices and with external partner organisations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Guides TRAFFIC thematic leads and Programme Offices, including Programme Office Directors, to transform project ideas into compelling funding concepts.
• Manages the development of funding proposals ; from project design, informed by strong logical framework rationale, to providing high quality written content, editorial and process guidance and other areas of technical support e.g. monitoring and evaluation.
• Initiates liaison with colleagues from finance, operations, risk management, research and data, and M&E as needed to ensure their input to proposal content and review.
• Drives efficiencies and improvements to TRAFFIC’s overall fundraising processes and systems at the institutional level (e.g. designs and maintains systems to manage current and past proposals, and maintains Raiser’s Edge database of donors), in collaboration with Development Teamcolleagues.
• Reviews funding calls and donor requirements & criteria to provide advice on direction of approach and content.
• Advises staff in the Global Office and regional programme offices to strategize responses to grant opportunities, to optimize return on effort and to ensure that funding is directed to priority intervention areas (as described in TRAFFIC’s annual workplans) and to priority funders (as identified in the fundraising strategy).
• Represents TRAFFIC in discussions with potential partners for joint bids, and provides support and advice to these external partners to strengthen bids.
• Represents TRAFFIC in donor meetings and briefing sessions.
• Designs and implements capacity building programmes for TRAFFIC on project design and proposal development, including introduction to project development within TRAFFIC, problem identification and articulation, stakeholder analysis, development of theories of change, monitoring and evaluation frameworks and processes, fundraising communication. Ensures this training is aligned to best practices in project planning across the conservation sector, and coordinated with Communications and Strategy, Programmes and Impact teams.
• Proactively researches, identifies and develop relationships with new prospects, who align to TRAFFIC priorities.
• Provides guidance on donor cultivation and engagement strategies.
• Leads on the development of generic fundraising material which can be multi-purposed for donor or wider publics.
• Advises teams across TRAFFIC as required to ensure the alignment of fundraising activities and program design to TRAFFIC strategic priorities, communications materials, and approaches (such as Evidence to Influence). Provides development input to Pipeline Group (indirectly) and Programme Forum.

REQUIREMENTS

• Project design and proposal writing experience, ideally across a range of international environmental NGOs, and a track record of success with securing at least six-figure grants from different donor sources, including European Commission, Governments, and Trusts and Foundations.
• Strategic, proactive and results focused with excellent organization and planning skills.
• Articulate with persuasive and engaging verbal communication skills and excellent written communication skills (English).
• Similar communication skills in French, Portuguese or Spanish desirable, but not required.
• Robust understanding of best practice for project design, including theory of change and log frames, and best practice approaches (e.g. Conservation Standards).
• Able to take a lead role with the packaging of a complex programme portfolio into language and visuals suitable for conveying TRAFFIC’s work to existing and potential supporters.
• Strong background in biodiversity conservation and/or sustainable development issues
• Project management experience desirable, especially in developing countries
• Strong networking, relationship building and diplomacy skills.
• Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with others working as part of a distributed, multi-cultural team globally, able to trouble shoot and maintain good relationships under pressure and across time zones.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent.

About the Role

The role of Database Officer sits in the Data, Evidence and Monitoring team, at the junction of frontline services, fundraising and the leadership team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of In-Form, our case management system for frontline services. In-Form represents a key data asset for the organisation so we are looking for someone who is responsible, conscientious and able to provide excellent customer service to other stakeholders who rely on In-Form. A strong interest in information management and databases is also essential for this role.

We would like to manage aspects of the development of In-Form in-house with limited recourse to the technical support team at In-Form. We recognise that this involves technical skills and will provide relevant on-the-job training to the successful candidate. We believe this job would be an ideal opportunity for someone who already has experience of using a case management system as a frontline worker in health/social care and now wants to move into data management, data protection and/or project monitoring and evaluation (M&E).

Based primarily in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon areas, you will work from home and within local community settings. The role will also require travel to our Belfast office (around once every couple of weeks) as well as occasional visits to other parts of the Southern team area.

This is a varied and rewarding role and involves assessing funding applications across our programmes, managing grants and monitoring progress and building strong relationships with key stakeholders. Key responsibilities may include:

• Assessing funding applications across our programmes
• Managing your own caseload of grants, including liaising with grant holders, visiting projects, identifying and managing risks, and supporting organisations to deliver and evaluate their work.
• Understanding and responding to the different needs of communities, applicants and grant holders
• Providing constructive advice and feedback, supporting applicants while being confident to have challenging conversations where needed
• Representing the Fund by engaging with key stakeholders, including applicants, support agencies, Council staff, and by attending funding fairs and external meetings.
• Sharing learning from your conversations, events, project visits, reports and evaluations to help maximize our impact as a grant maker.

Main responsibilities:

• Managing & taking ownership of safeguarding incident cases categorised as 1 or 2 (lower severity) supporting teams, those raising issues, liaison with the appropriate statutory authorities as necessary. 

• Managing safeguarding incidents classified at a higher severity under the supervision and guidance of the Global Safeguarding Lead. 

• Maintaining accurate and confidential records pertaining to safeguarding case management.

• Reporting disclosures or suspicions of harm to children to the authorities and providing information to assist the investigation as necessary.

•  Access – the Foundation for Social Investment works to make sure that charities and social enterprises can access the finance they need to sustain or grow their impact.
• You will be part of a small organisation of around 15 people that take a flexible, collaborative and trust-based approach to work.
• Working closely with the Head of Blended Finance and the wider Programme team you will act as an integral support function for colleagues but also build good relationships with our external partners, supporting their engagement with Access.

What you will deliver (responsibilities)

Programme Support:

• Present analysis and insights based on performance data and any contact with delivery partners to inform decisions within the team about ongoing relationships.
• Support the writing of papers for the Investment Committee and other committees including the Access Board, to present clear information to support understanding and decision-making.
• Help to organise, manage and minute internal and external meetings and events, including peer learning workshops.
• Assist with keeping Programmes pages of the Access website up to date.
• Supporting the development and maintenance of a bank of practical resources for use by our partners

Finance:

• Ensure robust financial management of Access’s programmes, including monitoring deployment targets of social investors and supporting the process for drawing funds from Access.

Relationship management:

•  Become one of the day-to-day points of contact for a portfolio of organisations who are delivering or supporting Access’s programmes, or in the process of applying to do so. These may include social investors, grant partners or other stakeholders.
• Build strong productive and supportive working relationships with delivery partners, in a spirit of collaboration and learning.
• Maintain comprehensive and clear records of the status of the relationship and any key questions or issues which are currently being addressed.

Data and learning:

• Support the acquisition and collation of regular performance data submissions

The Centre for Progressive Change is looking for a full-time Operations Director that will be part of the newly formed Executive Team. This role will be responsible for running the operations of the organisation with a focus on our people, systems and processes. They will work closely with the Executive Team, ensuring the organisation runs smoothly and efficiently so that we can have impact.

The Centre for Progressive Change (CPC) is an organisation that builds campaigns for national policy change in the UK. Our focus is on making progressive gains that improve the lives of low- and middle-income communities. We want the UK to be a place where everyone has the financial resources they need, where people are treated as equals and are free to be who they are without persecution, and where we look after our environment.

To achieve this vision, our mission is to build proactive campaigns for progressive legislative change, do research on what works when campaigning for national policy change and offer training and consultancy to support other organisations to build effective campaigns. Our campaigns use an inter-disciplinary approach including community organising, mobilising, advocacy, business engagement, campaign research and press work.

The Digital Communications Manager is responsible for leading and expanding the Trust's digital presence, ensuring our research, policy priorities, programmes, and alumni stories are shared in an impactful way with external audiences. Reporting to the Head of Communications and Public Affairs, and working closely with one direct report, they will deliver a step change in digital communications activity, driving data-led improvements and developing new and compelling multimedia content for the Trust's website, social media channels and digital communications.

Main duties

Website and digital communications

• Oversee the management and strategic development of the Sutton Trust website and associated microsites.

• Ensure the main site delivers impactful communications showcasing the breadth of the Trust’s work, whilst being responsive to the needs of our key audiences: students, teachers, policymakers, academics and media.

• Lead on relationships with external web developers to drive forward improvements to the Trust’s websites, ensuring quality user experience and SEO optimisation.

• Use Google Analytics and other monitoring tools to evaluate website performance and inform improvements.

• Project manage the production of video content, and other similar projects.

• Format reports, design graphics and create digital assets, supported closely by the Senior Digital Communications Officer.

• Edit the Trust’s regular email newsletter, ensuring content is of the highest quality.

• Ensure the Trust’s brand identity is consistent across the digital space

Social media

• Oversee the development and delivery of the Trust’s strategy for growing its social media presence through Linkedin, Bluesky, X, Instagram and other emerging platforms as appropriate.
• Ensure the Trust’s priorities and mission are communicated consistently and powerfully across its social platforms.
• Develop and deliver strategies to maximise reach and engagement, including working with partners, alumni and influencers.
• Oversee the launch of the Trust’s new TikTok channel.
• Work with the Senior Digital Comms Officer to create innovative and engaging social content in a range of formats to maximise impact across all platforms, working closely with the Head of Communications and Public Affairs and colleagues in Research, Programmes and Development teams.
• Proactively monitor relevant stories and advise colleagues on reaction and engagement, in partnership with the Head of Communications and Public Affairs.
• Monitor social media trends and flag key developments to team members.
• Use analytics to evaluate social campaigns and inform improvements.
• Advise and support colleagues in using social media in support of Sutton Trust objectives.

Other

• Line management of the Senior Digital Communications Officer.
• Work with colleagues to maintain a communications planning grid.
• Keep abreast of digital developments, providing expertise to the wider organisation.
• Write copy as required, and advise others in tailoring copy to digital channels and audiences.
• Contribute to the wider work of the Communications, Research and Policy Team.

Person Specification

We welcome applications from individuals who have experience in:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience of managing digital communications infrastructure and social media channels.
• Significant experience in managing a website, including good knowledge of HTML and CSS, WordPress and Google Analytics.
• Creative flair and a knack for distilling complex ideas into compelling content.
• A good understanding of Canva, InDesign, Illustrator and/or Photoshop to design infographics and other imagery.
• Experience of video content production, particularly for social media.
• Experience of using social media platforms and analytics successfully and a willingness to explore new channels. Understanding of LinkedIn, Bluesky, X and TikTok would be advantageous, as would previous experience using Google Analytics to monitor and drive improvements.
• An eye for detail, and the ability to work accurately to tight deadlines.
• Line management experience.
• Experience of developing digital strategies and implementing change.

Terms of Appointment

• Salary: £42,025
• Working location: Minimum of 2 office days per week, but further flexibility may be required given the external-facing nature of the role
• Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.
• Hours: The standard working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and may also be required to attend events / meetings outside of their normal working hours during weekday evenings and occasionally at weekends. This role also shares primary responsibility for monitoring the out of hours media line with the Head of Communications and Public Affairs.
• DBS check may be required
