This is a terrific opportunity to lead Muscular Dystrophy UK’s public affairs strategy, driving meaningful change for people living with muscle wasting conditions across the UK. You will be responsible for shaping and delivering our political engagement work, ensuring our voice is heard by all four governments.
In parallel, you will lead our social inclusion policy agenda, initially focusing on improving financial security for people with muscle wasting conditions, with scope to expand into broader inclusion-related policy areas over time.
You’ll build strong relationships with politicians, civil servants, voluntary sector organisations, and other key stakeholders to grow our influence and impact.
Working collaboratively across departments – including Policy and Campaigns, Research, Services and Support, Communications, Fundraising, and our devolved nations leads - you’ll help deliver key strategic objectives. Reporting to the Director of Policy and Campaigns, and line managing the Policy and Public Affairs Officer, you’ll play a vital role in driving change and improving lives.

We are looking for a new senior political adviser who will help build on our relationships and networks across Westminster, to deliver ambitious political leadership on a range of issues. The post holder will be responsible for leading advocacy interventions and providing political support to our policy experts, primarily in the natural environment theme, with a direct focus on nature, land use, food and farming.
As a senior political adviser within the politics team, you will also be involved with, and lead on, major projects or themes of work across the political leadership theme (for example, the Environment APPG), managing and developing key external relationships and supporting the Director of politics and Director of strategic partnerships as they lead the politics team.
You will need to be an exceptional communicator, adept at bringing people together around a shared vision and have the interpersonal skills to inspire and work across Green Alliance and liaise with our extensive network of partners.
The role entails identifying and leading on opportunities for the UK government to achieve environmental progress and implementing advocacy strategies to secure it. You will have direct access to senior policy makers and environmental leaders, so will need to articulate recommendations succinctly and persuasively.
The role requires excellent understanding of UK political processes (especially in Westminster, parliament and Whitehall) and experience of using it to influence policy effectively. Experience of operating within the system or of working directly with politicians and the media to achieve policy change would be a distinct advantage. An understanding of environmental policy would be beneficial but is not vital.
You will be a highly organised, capable multi-tasker with experience managing projects and able to think on your feet, while managing multiple relationships and advocating plans concurrently.
Position in the Organisation
The senior political adviser will report to the Director of strategic partnerships and will work closely with Green Alliance’s policy and communications teams. You will be required to brief and advise the senior management team regularly and will be involved in task managing politics and policy advisers and analysts, with scope for direct line management responsibilities in the future.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Lead and support the delivery of Green Alliance projects to influence environmental policy.
- Track issues and analyse their relevance to the organisation’s objectives, and the UK’s environmental agenda, with a particular focus on our efforts to rebuild the cross-party consensus on the environment.
- Contribute to the implementation of Green Alliance’s political strategy and deputise for senior political staff, where necessary.
- Represent Green Alliance at external events, including speaking on panels and webinars, and attending events and conferences.
- Develop and sustain Green Alliance’s relationships with decision makers in Westminster and Whitehall and use them to enhance the impact of our work.
- Where relevant, develop and maintain relationships across the environmental sector to maximise impact of our strategic priorities.
- Strengthen and expand Green Alliance’s relationships with political journalists in the Westminster lobby and enhance their understanding of environmental issues and the politics around the net zero goal and nature.
- Write (or ghost write) briefings, articles and content on behalf of Green Alliance, and our partners and allies, to effect meaningful policy change in Westminster.
- Build relationships with MPs’ and peers’ offices to table Written and Oral Questions, provide briefings for debates and evidence sessions, and more, as well as strengthen relations with relevant select committee staff.
- Manage projects efficiently, within budget and to deadlines, including the task management of other team members.
- Initiate new projects and strategically develop existing ones to maximise our impact.
- Lead funding bids for new projects, including setting budgets and work plans, liaising with the Director of politics and Director of strategic partnerships.
- Be an active member of the Green Alliance staff team, contributing to a supportive and inclusive work culture.

Person specification
Essential:
Excellent understanding of the UK’s political landscape and processes, e.g. parliamentary questions, amending legislation, select committee processes, etc.
Detailed understanding of UK and global climate and nature policy.
Experience of working with a broad range of stakeholders, convening and collaborating while managing competing priorities and beliefs.

Compass is a growing organisation with a long history of bold national campaigns, local groups across the country and a newly launched political network organising within the Labour party, Mainstream.
To grow our network and influence, we are looking to power up our organising, particularly by running impactful events. The Political and Campaigns Organiser will work with the Compass campaigns team to support our national campaigns for electoral reform and public ownership of water. They will also work with Compass’ organising team to support our network of local groups and to contribute to our organising across all progressive parties and in particular within the Labour Party.
They will contribute to our full organising programme, but with particular responsibility for events and working with our local groups. They should be comfortable working flexibly in a small, lively team and with groups with different perspectives.
This role involves:
- Growing, building and coordinating our local groups network across England and supporting their local campaigns.
- Working with the organising team and the local groups to strategise, plan and coordinate actions.
- Working with the whole Compass team to deliver events. We run a range of events throughout the year, from our big event Change: HOW?, our Annual Gathering, our panel events at party conferences and festivals to smaller events like our online party group meetings and briefings on our reports.
- Engaging and activating Compass’ member and supporter base through local groups and organising to maximise our impact, with a view to attracting and energising younger activists.
- Supporting the delivery of effective and creative campaigns - including supporting the campaigns team in writing copy and sending mailouts.
What this role might look like on the day to day:
- Meeting a local group in Warwickshire to plan an effective meeting to build their campaign against the far-right.
- Supporting the team to convene civil society leaders as part of our work on a New Popular Front by sorting logistics for events - choosing a venue or booking catering.
- Writing copy for emails to keep our activists up to date with key information about our activities.
- Supporting the organising team with desk research to feed into our political engagement work.
- Supporting our political party organising by writing template council or CLP motions.
- Following up with a member interested in starting a local group via phone or email, finding out what motivates them and building a relationship.

About the team
The media team strategically leads on both proactive and reactive media activity, engaging with journalists to support WaterAid’s mass engagement, partnerships, brand awareness and political influencing.
As our Senior PR Manager, you will lead the public relations function for WaterAid and work closely with the three senior media officers you manage, to drive sustainable change.
In this role, you will:
- Lead on developing and delivering innovative integrated, digital first PR campaigns that achieve impactful national, international, local and digital coverage, to support our fundraising and public engagement activities, build WaterAid’s profile, and align with wider organisational aims
- Manage our media around our high-profile strategic partnerships to deliver media projects that meet shared objectives and help our partners become influencers in their sector to drive change
- Work with the Celebrity and Influencer team to develop effective ways to work with high-profile supporters to build awareness of WaterAid and our work
- Act as a media spokesperson for WaterAid as required, briefing journalists on and off the record and giving media interviews where necessary
- Provide professional advice and support to colleagues in the UK, including our Chief Executive and within the WaterAid federation involved in media relations work, and identify opportunities to coordinate media moments across the organisation
- Manage reputational issues where appropriate in coordination with the Head of Media
- Write and edit copy as required for print and web outlets
- Monitor and evaluate coverage and the wider impacts of our media work to guide future strategies
- Build and maintain relationships with key journalists and broadcasters including the planning and managing of trips to country programmes with journalists, celebrities or for content gathering
- Join the 24/7 on-call rota and be prepared for travel in the UK and overseas - usually around two weeks per year - as well as some work outside normal office hours, as necessary

Requirements
To be successful, you will need:
- Experience of leading, managing and motivating others and driving change
- Considerable proven experience of working in an in-house media team or PR agency

- Proven experience of liaising with journalists of all levels especially national and consumer media
- Experience of utilising digital and social media to deliver PR objectives and aligning media work with owned, shared and paid activities

About the role

Platform’s North Sea Workers’ Transition project is building towards a managed phase-out of oil and gas extraction in the UK North Sea. We’re organising for an energy industry that protects the rights and livelihoods of the current oil and gas workforce and directs wealth back to communities, especially those impacted by industrial change.
We have been working with offshore oil and gas workers and their unions for 5+ years. In 2023, we published a groundbreaking set of 10 demands for a just energy transition away from fossil fuels co-created with offshore workers: Our Power: offshore workers’ demands for a just energy transition. Since publishing the report we have launched public advocacy and media campaigns based on these demands - working alongside industrial trade unions, national and grassroots climate groups, and oil and gas workers. We coordinate a first-of-its-kind coalition of industrial unions and climate groups working together on national worker transition demands.
As living conditions continue to decline and the climate crisis deepens, we are looking for a motivated and creative campaigner, who is able to lead the next stage of the project, and who has a strong understanding of anti-oppression and energy justice.
About the role
The Worker Transition Campaigns Manager will work closely with our Worker Organiser and Public and Community Ownership Campaigner, supported by our Organising and Advocacy Lead, Research Lead and Communications Lead.
You will be responsible for strategising, project managing and delivering the project. Activities will look like:
- Coordinating an existing coalition of climate groups and trade unions, including holding relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders across movements;

Our work in Asia covers conflicts in South and East Asia.
The Projects Manager will be responsible for:
· Supporting and implementing Inter Mediate’s existing projects portfolio of peace talks and other high-level peace initiatives;
· Building and managing relationships with senior stakeholders in conflict and peace processes, mainly in South and East Asia.;
· Identifying and developing entry points for new projects;
· Monitoring and analysing political developments across areas relevant to Inter Mediate’s work;

· At least 6 years of work experience in conflict resolution or peace process support for a governmental, non-governmental or inter-governmental organisation, or an equivalent field such as diplomacy, humanitarian access, or international development;
