Summary of the role

The Marketing and Communications Manager will lead and manage all marketing and communications activities to maximise our brand recognition and deliver our key messages in line with the Charity’s mission and strategic goals. The role will bring creativity, innovation, and strategic thinking to ensure that the Charity achieves its ambitious 2030 strategy.

Who we are

ADSS (Alzheimer's and Dementia Support Services) believes in enabling those who live with dementia to live well. ADSS is Kent’s biggest independent charity dedicated to providing support to people affected by dementia. Following a significant expansion in 2022, the team is now supporting more people than ever before.

Main Purpose of Job

The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing strategic marketing and communication plans that support the organisation’s goals and enhance its brand visibility. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong leadership, creativity, and communication skills to manage internal and external communications, media relations, digital marketing, and brand development ensuring the Charity achieves its ambitious 2030 strategy.

Principal Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

·Implement the new marketing and communications strategy to increase brand recognition, deliver our impact message and support our fundraising ambitions.

·Monitor and report on delivery of the strategy. . Play a leadership role in committees and working groups bringing your marketing and communications expertise to help influence decision making.

·Be an Ambassador for ADSS: embody its values and be a role model for the organisational culture.  

Marketing Strategy and Execution

·Refine and implement comprehensive marketing and communications plans to support ADSS’s mission, programs, and services.

·Collaborate with senior leadership to align marketing strategies with organisational goals and priorities.

·Manage the organisation's digital and print marketing initiatives, including social media, email campaigns, newsletters, and brochures.

·Utilize analytics tools to track marketing performance and make data-driven decisions to optimize campaigns.

·Revise and update the strategy based on evaluation and learning.

Content Creation and Storytelling

·Create compelling, relevant, and engaging content for various platforms including websites, blogs, newsletters, social media channels, and press releases.

·Oversee the development and ongoing management of our website to become a key channel for fundraising, promoting our services and informing people affected by dementia.

·Develop and maintain a consistent brand voice that reflects ADSS’s values and resonates with stakeholders.

·Highlight client stories, testimonials, and case studies to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia-related issues, ADSS services and our expertise in this space.

Public Relations and Media Relations

·Build and maintain relationships with local media, journalists, stakeholder communications teams and content creators to secure coverage of ADSS’s initiatives, events, and key messages.

·Coordinate media outreach, including press releases, pitches, and media events.

·Represent ADSS at community and media events as needed to promote the organisation’s visibility.

Event Promotion and Community Engagement

·Collaborate with individual teams to create marketing strategies and campaigns that increase attendance and engagement at services, fundraising and community events.

·Promote awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia through events, campaigns, and community partnerships.

·Build relationships with Communication teams from our key stakeholders and partners to promote joint initiatives and messaging.

Social Media and Digital Engagement

·Manage ADSS’s social media presence, including creating content, monitoring engagement, and growing the organization’s online following.

·Stay updated on social media trends and digital marketing strategies to ensure the organisation maintains a strong online presence.

·Track and report on digital engagement metrics to continuously refine online strategies.

Internal Communications

·Develop internal communications to keep staff, volunteers, and board members informed about organisational updates, events, and news.

·Ensure consistent messaging across internal and external communications channels.

General Responsibilities

Abide by organisational policies and practices including Equal Opportunities and Confidentiality.

Participate in your own appraisal with your line manager. Work with your line manager to review professional development and undertake training as agreed.

Provide management support and coaching for staff on marketing and communications matters, as required.

Contribute through ADSS meetings, training and outreach/events to the development of ADSS’s services.

Contribute to and attend internal/external events and support the CEO/COO/SLT with the promotion of the organisation’s workplace culture.

Carry out any other duties which are considered commensurate with the post.

Your impact:

• Influence Scottish Parliament and Government policy, responding to legislation, consultations, and committee inquiries. 

• Build relationships with ministers, MSPs, officials, and key stakeholders to ensure Marie Curie’s policy messages are heard.

Key Criteria:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience drafting consultation responses, briefings, and media content. 

• Political astuteness, with the ability to navigate complex environments and build trust at senior levels.

What does The Animal Law Foundation do? 

The Animal Law Foundation was registered with the Charity Commission in August 2022. It is primarily a legal research charity that looks into neglected areas of animal law and where appropriate will instruct lawyers to bring legal challenges to secure any systems in place to protect animals function as they should.

Groups like this exist in the environmental and the human rights space in the UK and in the animal protection space in other countries. There is a desperate need for such work to exist for animals in the UK. 

The UK still has some of the best animal welfare laws in the world, yet the opportunity for vast change contained within these laws is rarely explored. Through exploring these opportunities the whole system for animals can be improved and set global examples. 

It is of vital importance that laws that exist to protect animals are understood and applied. The Animal Law Foundation will work alongside stakeholders to ensure that this happens. 

Communications Officer

This role involves producing and editing clear, accurate, and engaging content across diocesan platforms, both online and offline, to share the Church’s story and highlight its role in society. The postholder will support the Head of Communications in managing the diocese’s digital and print presence, overseeing website and social media content, and contributing to fundraising campaigns.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Communications Officer will attend a wide range of diocesan events, creating compelling content for websites and social channels to strengthen the Church’s profile. The Communications Officer collaborate with diocesan teams and partners to draft and distribute press releases and advise colleagues on effective use of social media. Regular tasks will include managing website updates, drafting and reviewing parish communications, and preparing copy for fundraising bids, Planned Giving Drives, and Capital Appeals.

Consistency of branding and visual identity across all materials is key, and the Communications Officer will work closely with other departments to maintain this standard. They will also support the Head of Communications with broader team activities, including production of the annual Diocesan Directory and contributions to the National Directory. Friends of Ibba Girls School, South Sudan (FIGS)

Friends of Ibba Girls School, South Sudan (FIGS) was set up in 2011 in response to a specific request from local community leaders to help them translate into reality their vision to build and develop a girls’ boarding school in South Sudan in order to enable girls to complete primary and secondary education rather than drop out of school due to poverty and family pressures.

FIGS has raised over £4.9 million over the last 10 years, particularly through relational fundraising from the wide network of individuals who donate through regular giving, mainly in the UK but also internationally.  Other sources of funds include schools, churches, trusts and foundations, corporates, and business philanthropists, as well as a yearly campaign through the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

FIGS has a committed and hardworking body of trustees, chaired by Chris Trott, former British Ambassador to South Sudan, and now British Ambassador to the Holy See based in the Vatican City, Rome.  The charity currently employs 2 staff who work on fundraising, communications and administration.

In 2023 FIGS Trustees commissioned Windle Trust International (a well-managed UK charity with a long track record of effective work in South Sudan and sub-Saharan Africa) to act as FIGS managing agents in South Sudan, and to provide professional, technical and management advice and support to Ibba Girls Boarding School (IGBS). 

Ibba Girls Boarding School (IGBS)

Ibba Girls Boarding School (IGBS) now educates over 300 primary and secondary school girls from across the whole of Western Equatoria State (an area the size of Scotland but less densely populated) and employs 42 staff (teachers, matrons, cooks, grounds maintenance, night guards and other support staff). The school is on a large, 100-acre green campus and provides not only high-quality teaching in the core subjects on the national curriculum, but also a wide range of co-curriculum subjects like drama, debating, sewing, and farming.

Since its opening in 2014, IGBS has become recognised as a tried and tested visible demonstration of the benefits of boarding school education in South Sudan, where most girls drop out from school before the end of primary and very few complete their secondary qualifications.  IGBS is making a substantial impact across South Sudan, by providing good quality “all-through” integrated girls’ schooling, for both primary and secondary girls, from any background and of any faith or none.

IGBS is achieving both tangible and intangible measures of success, including reduced drop out from school; excellent exam results; a safe, stimulating, happy and nurturing culture; empowering young women who can exercise leadership locally and nationally for this new nation (independent since 2011). IGBS is now attracting widespread recognition in South Sudan for lifting standards of teaching and learning, and acting as a beacon of light and hope, whose example can gradually ripple out to other schools across South Sudan. 

The Opportunity

This is a great moment of opportunity for a highly experienced fundraising and communications professional with a strong and demonstrable track record to play a crucial role (alongside a subgroup of trustees and two paid staff) in reviewing and refreshing FIGS’ fundraising strategy for the short, medium and longer term, and in raising FIGS’ profile through strategic communications. This will support FIGS to reach ambitious fundraising targets to allow us to increase the number of girls in the school to full capacity and implement multiple capital projects on the school campus over the next 5 years. The fundraising challenge also includes deepening and expanding FIGS’ donor base, while sustaining and engaging the large network of existing supporters and loyal donors, supported by effective communications and PR. You will lead and direct the fundraising work and will use your skills across a wide range of fundraising functions, including cultivating gifts from wealthy philanthropists, and through wills and bequests. You will also lead on delivering FIGS’ communications strategy, identifying opportunities to raise its profile with target audiences using a variety of relevant communications channels. You will have experience of digital and social media campaigns, and will oversee the development and dissemination of strategic communications materials in support of FIGS’ fundraising and profile-raising objectives. You will ideally have experience working on projects in fragile or developing contexts and an interest in education and gender equity.

There is plenty to enjoy in the varied work, where one can see visible results not only in FIGS’ fundraising targets, but also in the impact it has on the school, its students and staff, parents and communities across Western Equatoria State and across the nation of South Sudan.

Key Responsibilities

• To support the design and delivery of FIGS’ fundraising strategy and action plan, achieving or exceeding targets and KPIs, both financial and non-financial, as agreed with the Chair of FIGS Trustees, Treasurer and Chair of its fundraising sub-group
• To oversee and deliver FIGS’ communications strategy, and raise its profile with existing and new audiences through strategic communications and PR
• To widen the existing network of donors, based on relationship development and management
• To maintain active engagement with existing supporters and donors
• To identify and generate new fundraising opportunities, from the corporate and philanthropic sectors, as well as from other organizations, groups and individuals
• To generate a pipeline of activities across a range of fundraising streams
• To undertake PR and communications work in order to support the fundraising strategy
• To lead the design and distribution of PR and comms materials, including website, regular newsletter, leaflets, social media.
• To line manage FIGS fundraising and comms staff
• To produce progress reports for FIGS Trustees about fundraising in relation to targets and budget and make recommendations for future workstreams
• To attend key fundraising and supporter events to generate significant income, support and profile
• To act as an ambassador for FIGS
• To ensure fundraising and comms activities are in line with FIGS’ values and policies, relevant legislation and the Fundraising Regulator Code of Practice.

The selection process and how to apply 

The post can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis (where part-time is at least 24 hours a week).  Hours can be flexible by arrangement. The person will work mainly from home, liaising online with FIGS and WTI Trustees, staff, and volunteers and with the Board of Governors and Head Teacher of the school in South Sudan.

Some travel to fundraising and communications events in London and elsewhere will be needed. A three-year rolling contract will be offered in the first instance, with annual review and the potential for extension, subject to achievement of agreed performance measures and targets. The salary is in the range of £45-70K (or pro rata) depending on track record and experience.

We have an exciting 12-month Fixed Term Contract opportunity for a Senior Policy and Public Affairs Adviser to shape policy, influence decision-makers, and strengthen the MND Association’s voice across Wales. You will work with colleagues, partners and volunteers to improve services and support for people with MND, their carers, and families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with the Public Affairs Manager, and Wales Delivery Team to deliver the MND Association’s influencing, campaigning and lobbying priorities across Wales
• Analyse public policy and develop well-informed policy positions and recommendations
• Communicate our position on policy issues to the Senedd, Cross Party Groups and Government
• Prepare and manage the production of policy papers, briefings, submissions, speeches and reports
• Build and manage strong relationships with key decision-makers, policymakers and partners
• Create opportunities to influence change at Senedd and ensure alignment with NHS Wales and local authorities
• Implement and support public affairs and campaigning activity across Wales
• Work with colleagues to develop and support campaigning actions and volunteers
• Represent the Association at meetings and external events

About You:

• Excellent understanding of the Welsh political system, including Senedd processes and law-making mechanisms
• Experience of responding to policy consultations
• Experience delivering campaigns and public affairs activity
• Proven communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
• Skilled at prioritising work to meet tight deadlines
• Willingness to travel and occasionally work evenings or weekends as required
