It is initially a 12 month role, but we are actively seeking longer term financing for it. The role will:
- Recruit a cohort of Scotland-based spokespeople to be trained by NEON and then booked into the media
- Run the Scottish Spokesperson Network - helping NEON position itself as an aide to broadcast journalists and helpful to NGOs, campaign groups and activists on the ground - with a particular focus
- Seek opportunities for long term funding of the role, alongside the co-director of Comms
About the Spokesperson Network
The Spokesperson Network trains and supports people to speak on television and radio. We are substantially boosting the number of progressive, diverse voices in this space to challenge opposition narratives and boost coverage of underrepresented issues.
The programme works by training, coaching and providing PR booking support for spokespeople from civil society working on social, environmental and economic issues. So far we’ve had over 11,000 high-profile media bookings including Question Time, Newsnight, Good Morning Britain, LBC, Channel 4 News, BBC 5 Live, Today, Sky News and ITV News plus many more.
What you will be doing
Here are the key responsibilities of this role:
- Run two Scotland-based Spokesperson Network Trainings
- Keep on top of the current trends and topics in the Scottish media and political environment
- Seek to book the spokespeople who have been trained into the media - with expectations of providing each person trained with ongoing media opportunities
- Support on the Spokesperson Network more widely - booking people into the UK-wide media.
- Be a key part of the Comms Hub - helping with other peoples projects, delivering training and bringing insight and ideas to team spaces.
- Play an active part in the whole NEON team, contributing to organisation-wide plans
Who you are:
- Experience in journalism, communications, media relations or a role that incorporates these skills.
- A great knowledge of the Scottish media and campaigning environment
- Experience delivering media, press or spokesperson training.
- Good writing and editing skills, including an eye for detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communicating appropriately with different stakeholders.
- Project management experience demonstrated through being proactive and well organised, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work well under pressure, meet the demands of a dynamic organisation and accommodate changing circumstances.
- An affinity with NEON’s aims and objectives and organisational values of solidarity, generosity and respect
- Proven understanding of anti-oppression work and commitment to tackling all institutional forms of oppression, bigotry and exclusion.

Hours
Full-time, which for NEON is 28 hours a week - the equivalent of a 4 day standard work week. This can be done over 4 or 5 days, that’s totally up to you. Hours are generally flexible, with some core meetings everyone has to be at.

Who we are looking for
This role is our primary communications role, working with our education and delivery managers to ensure great comms for the charity. It requires someone ready to own and lead this work understanding out to ensure good quality assurance processes but also strategic deployment of e-comms.
You should have around three or more years’ experience in communications, digital marketing, or a similar role, ready to lead a busy portfolio of work.

This role works to raise awareness of the issues faced by people around the world who have lost their homes to disaster. It creates positive media coverage for ShelterBox, profiling us as experts in emergency shelter, as well as supporting fundraising with media engagement and PR activities. The role also works to ensure colleagues across the organisation can talk about our work accurately and consistently by producing key messaging about our international programmes.

ShelterBox is seeking a motivated and proactive individual with excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
We are looking for someone who enjoys writing a variety of materials like press releases, statements, and Q&As. You will also enjoy finding stories and ensuring they are told ethically. You will enjoy creating news, working with the media and being involved in multiple projects.

The role requires someone who is able to pivot priorities quickly when needed. When major disasters happen, our teams need to be able to flex very quickly to that focus.
MAIN ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This role works as part of a small and dynamic Communications & Digital team. You will be focused on gaining media coverage for our international programmes that support people after disaster. You will understand the issues and opportunities of our work and secure media interviews. You will also support our fundraising campaigns and events with media engagement.
You will work closely with the Head of Global Communications & Digital and colleagues across the Fundraising & Communications department to develop and deliver communications and media engagement activities supporting campaigns and driving awareness.
This role also supports wider departments by producing centralised messaging to ensure colleagues talk about our work consistently and are aligned with our brand.
The role line manages a Communications & PR Officer. It also works with the wider communications and fundraising teams on integrated campaigns, ensuring key messaging is aligned and PR angles and issues are considered.
There may be occasional opportunity to travel when appropriate to countries where ShelterBox works for media opportunities. This travel is not mandatory. There will be regular travel to Truro head office to support media interviews, deliver training, and organisation collaboration days. Flexibility with working hours sometimes required especially during sudden-onset emergencies (TOIL available for additional hours.)
PR & Comms Lead
- Manage a variety of communications and PR activities to raise awareness of the needs of people who have lost their homes to disaster.
- Produce a range of high-quality written materials for different audiences.
- Develop strong working relationships with people across the organisation, including in our fundraising teams, and international programmes.
- As a PR and communications subject matter expert, take a proactive approach to media engagement and communications.
- Act as a Strategic EDI Liaison (see EDI role profile), embedding and leading EDI principles within your role by integrating the EDI strategy and action plan into departmental activities, ensuring inclusive approaches are applied, actions are delivered, and progress is monitored. In addition, work collaboratively with the wider Strategic EDI Liaison team to share good practice, coordinate cross-departmental initiatives, and support a consistent, organisation-wide approach to progressing EDI priorities.
Media Engagement
- Maximise media opportunities for ShelterBox across national and regional, print, digital, and broadcast media.
- Have a good understanding of the media landscape and actively keep across relevant stories and trends.
- Work with colleagues across the organisation to find stories and create news.
- Prepare and use a variety of high-quality, effective PR tools including press releases, quotes and comments, features, blogs and photo opportunities.
- Sell-in stories, respond to media enquiries, and secure media interviews.
- Deliver interview training for colleagues.
- Prepare messaging and briefings for spokespeople for interviews and events.
- Ensure plans are ready to roll-out when major disasters happen - including comms plans, media lists, trained spokespeople, quotes and other resources.
- Identify, develop and maintain great relationships with relevant journalists, PR agencies, Freelancers, supporters e.g. community fundraisers and Rotary groups.
Communications
- Produce high-quality written materials, including core messaging, Q&As, and occasional reports summarising our work, ensuring messaging is consistent and on brand.
- Ensure colleagues across the organisation have the messaging they need to talk about our work in a way that supports our brand and tone of voice.
- Work as part of a team (social, website, celebrity, brand, content, fundraising) to deliver integrated campaigns.
- Work to protect our reputation, supporting the organisation with crisis comms activities and playing an active role in the Crisis Management Team.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) is seeking a confident and proactive Public Affairs and Media Officer to join our Media and Public Affairs team at an exciting time for child health policy and advocacy.
This is a varied and high-impact role at the heart of our influencing work. You will help shape and deliver campaigns that call on decision-makers to strengthen the child health workforce and services, tackle child health inequalities across the UK, and protect children’s rights. You will support the College’s public affairs, campaigning and media activity; ensuring paediatricians’ voices are heard where they matter most.
As Public Affairs and Media Officer, you will monitor political and media developments, identify opportunities to influence parliamentarians and stakeholders, and provide high-quality briefings and communications content to support our advocacy priorities. This is a senior communications and public affairs role at The British Institute of Human Rights (BIHR) at a pivotal moment for human rights in the UK. You will help shape public and political narratives about the Human Rights Act, amplify lived experience, and ensure BIHR’s expertise cuts through in national debates.
You will lead BIHR’s external communications - including media, digital content, and website oversight – and support evidence‑informed policy positioning and parliamentary engagement. Working closely with colleagues across the charity, you’ll transform insights from our programmes into powerful, accessible messaging and high‑impact advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

Communications
- Lead BIHR’s external communications strategy to ensure consistent, accessible, rights‑based messaging.
- Draft proactive and reactive press releases and media statements.
- Secure media opportunities highlighting BIHR’s work and the role of the HRA/ECHR.
- Manage the consistency and quality of website content.
- Create engaging digital content that translates complex human rights issues into clear, plain language.
- Maintain a content calendar aligned with key parliamentary, policy, and public affairs milestones.
- Track and analyse engagement data to inform strategy.
Policy Evidence, Analysis & Positioning
- Conduct policy research grounded in the HRA/ECHR framework.
- Translate lived and practitioner experience into evidence‑informed policy positions and recommendations.
- Draft high‑quality briefings, consultation responses, reports, and messaging documents.
- Horizon‑scan for risks and opportunities to protect and advance human rights.
- Maintain BIHR’s internal knowledge base on HRA/ECHR and priority policy areas.
Government & Parliamentary Engagement
- Monitor UK parliamentary activity and analyse implications for the HRA/ECHR and BIHR’s work.
- Build relationships with parliamentarians, government officials, and parliamentary offices.
- Support targeted advocacy to defend the HRA/ECHR and promote rights‑respecting law and policy.
- Represent BIHR at political and policy meetings and events.
- Ensure monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of public affairs activity.
Stakeholder Engagement & Representation
- Build and sustain partnerships with NGOs, academics, policymakers, legal professionals, civil servants, and parliamentarians.
- Represent BIHR externally and engage in sector networks.
- Communicate BIHR’s policy positions and resources clearly and effectively.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration and influence.
Other organisational requirements
- Work collaboratively as part of a small team.
- Support organisational processes and continuous improvement.

Who the Role Is Suitable For
This role is ideal for someone who brings strong communications skills, policy and advocacy experience, and a commitment to human rights as practical tools for change.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Can translate complex law and policy into accessible, compelling communications.
- Have experience engaging with parliamentarians, officials, and senior stakeholders.
- Are confident in human rights frameworks, particularly the HRA.
- Enjoy working in a small, collaborative team.
- Can manage competing priorities in a fast‑moving, politically sensitive environment.
- Live within approximately one hour of London, as regular Westminster/Whitehall meetings are expected.
