The Role

As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring all charitable income and expenditure, financial forecasting, producing management accounts, annual financial accounts, and maintaining effective control systems. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work on strategic projects such as developing our financial practice and policies, grant reconciliation and forecasting.

The successful candidate will have charity accounting experience and at least qualified by experience in charity accounting. In addition to the relevant technical skills, we are looking for someone who is committed to our mission, takes a proactive approach, is excited to support our responsive, dynamic organisation to develop and grow, and has excellent people skills to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues.

Whilst this is a remote role, some occasional travel (approx 6-10 times per year) to London and the South East for meetings and get togethers will be expected.

Key Responsibilities

Day to Day Financial transactions 

• Accounts Receivable

• Accounts Payable

• Bank Reconciliation

• Payroll

• Process expense claims

Financial Control

• Ensure financial controls and the integrity of the financial records are maintained

• Complete month end processes and prepare management accounts, KPIs and commentaries on a timely basis

• Lead the audit process and preparation of statutory accounts.

Financial Planning

• Work with the CEO and Executive Director to prepare budgets and forecasts

• Monitor performance against project specific and organisational budgets throughout the financial year

• Develop projections to support strategic and business planning

• Monitor and report on reserve levels based on current projections

• Support the fundraising functions (Executive Director) with ongoing analysis and reporting

• Prepare and manage cashflow forecasts

Secretariat Duties

• Preparation of papers for, attendance at, quarterly Board meetings

• Arranging and minuting Quarterly Board meetings, 

Supporting the organisation

• Business planning including tracking multi-year grant commitments and understanding the balance of reserves after future year income and grant commitments

• Support Fundraising with donor reporting requirements, reconciliation of income received and reviewing of income against budget and forecast

• Contribute to strategic projects and funding bids.

Audit and Taxation

• Lead the relationship with the auditors, ensuring that the audit is delivered on schedule and all statutory filings are made on time.

• Responsible for the preparation of statutory accounts and supporting schedules.

• Liaise with tax advisors to ensure compliance.

• Complete quarterly VAT returns and Gift Aid returns.

Treasury

•  Lead in the management of bank accounts and deposits.

The salary is £38,000 FTE pro rata, for 21 hours per week, with 17 days annual leave including bank holidays.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking for a dynamic finance professional, eager to make a difference. We need someone as keen to get stuck in with the day to day administrative aspects of the role, as with helping us lead the organisation through strategic planning and growth. 

You have experience in effectively managing finances in a charity setting and can manage your own time effectively with great motivation. You are able to communicate effectively with colleagues, requesting information and presenting findings in a clear and approachable manner. 

Ideally, you combine the professionalism of the corporate world with the heart of a grassroots movement, directly contributing to the impact of this fast-paced, responsive organisation.

Essential

• Sound knowledge and demonstrable experience of UK Charity SORP, charity sector financial practices and preparing statutory accounts

• Qualified by experience or part qualified CIMA, ACCA, ACA 

• Experience of preparing and managing an audit process

• A critical eye for reviewing accounting transactions and ensuring accuracy

• Strong attention to detail with a clear and diligent working approach

• Experience of VAT within a charity context

• Excellent IT skills, including experience of using Microsoft Office; in particular great Excel skills

• Ability to work independently and use initiative to manage a busy and varied workload

• Experience of using QuickBooks

• A proactive and solutions focussed approach

• Excellent team player, willing to work flexibly and collaboratively to respond to changing organisational needs/priorities

• Personable, with excellent communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and a range of audiences (e.g. reports, presentations)

We are now looking for a Data Analyst to join our national team - a new and varied role, working alongside the Data & Insights Analyst and the Learning & Insights Lead. This role is key in championing our learning culture at SHiFT, supporting our Voice, Participation, and Belonging strategy, and ensuring that our systems and reporting effectively demonstrate the impact SHiFT is having - not only with children and families, but also at a wider systems change level. On a fixed-term basis, this role will support the Learning Team by freeing up capacity for strategic and evaluative work, while also offering the opportunity to contribute to an exciting phase of growth in SHiFT’s data infrastructure and learning capabilities.

This role is perfect for someone looking to take a step up in data management, training, and information sharing. The Data Analyst will play a key role in streamlining data processes, supporting accurate and efficient data collection across Practices, and helping us maximise the insights generated from our new, customised Salesforce data system. You will work closely with our data experts in local Practices (Practice Coordinators) and the wider SHiFT team. Therefore, you must be a proactive team player who is brilliant at building relationships, sees the value in working collaboratively, and enjoys problem-solving with others. You have a sharp eye for detail, sweat the small stuff, have a ‘can do’ attitude, and are ambitious to grow and make a difference as part of a practice-led systems change organisation.

Whilst this role requires proven experience of quantitative skills, we are open to candidates with limited or no experience in qualitative research. This is a varied role, and we envisage opportunities for fieldwork, e.g. conducting interviews, facilitating and moderating focus groups. We can provide training and support to help you develop the necessary qualitative skills. The successful candidate will bring both expertise and creativity to help improve data capture, analysis, reporting processes, and insight generation. Your experience will include working with CRM system(s) and data reporting tools, and you will be adept at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

THE RESPONSIBILITES

SHiFT’s Data Analyst has responsibility for: 

Data Collection and Management

• Support the effective use of SHiFT’s Salesforce system, ensuring accurate, timely data entry and maintenance across local Practices.
• Assist members of our local Practice Teams (Practice Coordinators and Guides) with data queries and monthly surveys.
• Coordinate and quality-assure monthly data submissions, working closely with Practice teams to ensure consistency and completeness.
• Help to develop reporting tools, dashboards, or templates on and off Salesforce to support embedding learning back into practice and more widely to contribute to our ambitions for systems change.

System Improvement and Efficiency

• Identify and implement opportunities to streamline data processes.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of SHiFT’s Salesforce configuration, in collaboration with external developers and internal users.
• Help document processes and support training materials for system users.
• Navigate and innovate with different systems, including understanding the data recording systems used by Local Authorities and working with the Learning and Practice team to reduce duplication of data entry for practitioners.

Learning and Insight Generation

• Produce routine reports and data summaries for internal use, feeding into learning and influencing conversations.
• Support the Learning Team’s efforts to use data for reflection, learning, and improvement both locally and nationally.
• Contribute to longer-term work exploring integration of data across education, youth justice, social care, and health systems.

Job Profile

CAFOD’s work in the Catholic community of England and Wales is to inspire and resource Catholics to participate in the Church’s mission to overcome poverty and injustice in partnership with CAFOD.

The main purpose of this role is to inspire and increase the participation in CAFOD’s work of Catholic parishes, schools and the broader Catholic community within the Portsmouth Diocese. CPCs are accountable for delivering CAFOD’s annual participation plans locally across England and Wales. As well as growing the number of parishes and schools participating to address global poverty and express solidarity with our global family, we aim to increase the breadth of their engagement, participation.

This will be accomplished partly by the recruitment and support of a team of committed, inspired and well-resourced volunteers working in parish and school communities to enable and equip Catholics to give, act and pray. The work will also involve meeting important church-based stakeholders, advisers and networks within the diocese to build fruitful and positive relationships.

The post reports to the Community Participation Manager for the East Region (The dioceses of Portsmouth, Arundel and Brighton, Southwark, Brentwood, East Anglia, Westminster, Northampton, Nottingham, Hallam, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Hexham & Newcastle)

The Community Participation Coordinator (CPC) is part of a regional team working across a group of dioceses and whilst having a primary focus on one diocese, is responsible for the results of the regional team plans in relation parishioner and school participation and volunteer recruitment and retention.

The role will be home based, although the post holder will be mobile and flexible to meet volunteers, clergy and other stakeholders and contribute at events as required.

The role requires a willingness to be adaptable to support the work of the regional team, deploying skills, knowledge and at times activity in other parts of the regional team area. This is likely to require some additional travel (which would be reimbursed by CAFOD). The post also requires weekend and evening work for which time off in lieu (toil) can be claimed.

Key Responsibilities

Delivering participation plans

• Share accountability for delivery of annual participation plans for the region (a group of dioceses) with a primary focus on one diocese, and for fundraising, education, campaigns, and other targets, as delineated by the participation plan for the region. It is usually anticipated that the role will have an 80% focus on parish communities and a 20% focus on school communities
• Contribute to the development and delivery of a regional plan across a number of dioceses in support of the annual participation plans and appropriate for local contexts

This role will be working in a women’s-only residential service specialising in providing safe therapeutic environments for those who have experienced multiple disadvantage and those who have experienced past trauma. Reporting to our brilliant Business Development Manager and working closely with our Operations Manager, you’ll be a vital member of our charity team, responsible for supporting activity across community and events fundraising. This role will focus on providing exceptional steward-ship for our calendar of community and events fundraising. You’ll build relationships with supporters and help deliver impactful events as well as help grow our income through individual giving.

We take our trauma informed practice seriously, both with service users and within the organisation. We also run a successful Homecare service, with Care Workers supporting vulnerable people in south Camden who draw on care.

The Role 

Fundraising and Impact Coordinator

o Assist in the planning and execution of a diverse range of fundraising applications, events and community initiatives

o Support the management of event logistics, including participant communication, volunteer coordination, and on-the-day activities

o Collaborate with external partners and suppliers to ensure smooth event operations and build strong relationships for future collaboration

o Lead outreach efforts to engage new community partners, such as businesses, promoting fundraising opportunities and supporting their initiatives.

o Lead on generating income through diverse means

o To represent the charity in all spaces - implementing a rolling 12-month plan of meaningful touchpoints to deepen relationships

o Develop and implement a plan to encourage increased giving and recruit new regular donors with personalised cultivation and stewardship

o Serve as the primary point of contact for funders, donors and friends of Hopscotch Women’s Centre, ensuring they receive the information and support needed to maximise their fundraising potential

o Provide timely and effective follow-up communications with stakeholders, ensuring they feel valued and engaged

o Maintaining our CRM database, ensuring accurate records to track communications and data, ensuring compliance with GDPR and data protection laws.

o Work closely with Finance colleagues to process donations, Gift Aid and matched funding claims, ensuring this income is processed and recorded accurately

o Manage the distribution of supporter resources, conduct stock checks for fundraising materials and ensure an organised work environment for all fundraising assets

o Create engaging materials (posters, leaflets, stories etc), working closely with our social media lead on content

o Produce impact reports and collate information for reporting to funders and to support fundraising initiatives and grant applications

o Work collaboratively with the wider team, to support their work whilst deepening an understanding of our services

o Support the CEO and Operations Manager with ad hoc projects, activities, and any high-priority tasks to contribute to overall team objectives

o Any other duties as required by the Business Development Manager

o Experience of working within the charity sector with fundraising and impact gathering and presentation

o Profound understanding of the issues facing marginalised Londoners, particularly women, from ethnically minoritised communities

o Experience working with minoritised Global Majority women and a diverse staff team applying anti-discriminatory practice

o A resilient and assertive approach to reaching out and building trust and positive relationships with funders, donors and other stakeholders

o Awareness of the intersectionality affecting our service users and how to speak confidently about this to funders, donors and other stakeholders

o Ability to provide solution focused work environment through the ebbs and flows of fundraising

o Ability to advocate successfully for the charity in all spaces

o Ability to critically reflect on own practice and performance and make use of clinical supervision

o Excellent organisational and IT skills including the ability to be self-servicing, use relevant IT packages and maintain an efficient case recording and data reporting system

o Excellent written and verbal communication skills
