Location: Work from home but ideally based in Bracknell / Reading / Wokingham
Commitment: Approximately 2-4 hours a week alongside any training and volunteer team catch ups / planning meetings
Overview:
Sometimes, you just need someone to listen without judgement. That’s why we’re launching a brand-new telephone support service for the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to help make it happen. As a Volunteer Support Mentor, you’ll answer pre-booked calls from service users, creating a safe space for them to speak openly, offering emotional support, guidance, and signposting to other resources.
What You’ll Be Doing

This is a home based volunteering role, but you’ll need to be based in Berkshire, ideally in the Bracknell, Reading, or Wokingham area.

The telephone support service will run twice a week within a 2-hour time slot. You’ll ideally commit to 2–4 hours per week.

Service users will pre-book telephone appointments via our website.

You’ll answer calls, providing a safe, non-judgemental space for users to talk openly, offering emotional support, guidance, and signposting to other relevant services.

After each call, you’ll complete a short record noting what was discussed, any guidance given and any safeguarding concerns.

Support U’s designated safeguarding leads will be available during service hours for any immediate advice or escalation.

Requirements

Based in Berkshire (preferably Bracknell, Reading, or Wokingham).

Able to realistically commit to a minimum of 2-4 hours per week for the long term.

Basic administrative skills and strong communication and organisation skills.

Some experience in a similar line of work (e.g. counselling, mentoring, support work) or willingness to learn and undertake training.

Willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Evidence of completed safeguarding training or willingness to complete safeguarding training organised by Support U.

Comfortable using basic technology to answer calls/log call notes.

Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding best practice.

Volunteer Cat Fosterers Needed
Do you have a safe, calm, and caring home where a cat in need could stay while we help them find their fur-ever home? The RSPCA is looking for new volunteer fosterers to join our team and provide temporary care for cats — from strays and abandoned pets to even feral cats who need patient, understanding fosterers.
What you’ll be doing:

Offering cats a safe, warm, and loving temporary home.

Helping cats build confidence, whether they are friendly pets or more nervous ferals.

Attending vet appointments when required.

Working with us to give updates on your foster cat’s progress.
What we’re looking for:

Volunteers aged 18 or over who are confident and comfortable around cats — including strays and ferals.

No previous fostering experience needed — just patience, commitment, and a genuine love of cats.

Applicants must be available to foster for the RSPCA and not currently volunteering with other animal charities.

You don’t need to live alone, but all family members (and pets) must be cat friendly.

Located in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and surrounding areas.

We are seeking two passionate and affective advocates for the arts to join Nottingham Playhouse’s Board of Trustees.
Awarded Theatre of the Year 2025 in The Stage awards, Nottingham Playhouse is one of the country’s leading producing theatres, creating work that’s bold, thrilling and proudly made in Nottingham. Our wide-reaching participation programmes create life-changing experiences for our community and we also support the next generation of theatre-makers in the East Midlands through our extensive artist development programme.
As a registered charity, all of the funds we raise help to ensure we’re reaching as many people as possible to give them new opportunities and create lasting memories.
We are now seeking two new Trustees to join our Board. To complement the specialisms of our current governance, we are particularly seeking applicants with specialisms in the following areas:
- Legal
- HR
- Accountancy
- Governance
- Theatre producing
- Health and safety
- Business experience
- Property
The Board meets six times a year in Nottingham, and each Trustee also attends at least one subgroup, which meet bimonthly or quarterly. Reasonable expenses for attending Board meetings will be offered. Trustees are also expected to attend press nights for each in-house production and support other Nottingham Playhouse activities and Participation programmes whenever possible.
The attributes we are seeking in potential Trustees include:

- Good independent judgement
- An interest in theatre with an understanding of Nottingham Playhouse’s work
- A commitment to seeing Nottingham Playhouse’s produced work and activities
- A willingness to share your field of expertise and facilitate introductions with wider networks
