Role

In this exciting yet challenging role as Trainer, you will train prison staff across London to understand the impact of sexual violence on male, boy, and non-binary prisoners, by raising awareness of sexual violence within prisons and equipping staff with the tools to respond appropriately. As we celebrate our 16th Birthday year, We Are Survivors are currently looking for an individual that has the passion, drive and determination to help us deliver our OUT Spoken Talking Therapy Services (prison based).

We Are Survivors provide survivor-focused therapeutic and advocacy support to male (including Trans and Non-binary) victims/survivors, and their loved ones, of sexual harms. We have developed a three-tiered approach to services and underpin everything we do with a ‘trauma and recovery’ framework pioneered by Dr Judith Herman.

We are currently commissioned to deliver trauma-informed therapy services in 15 prisons across the Northwest of England and we need your help delivering these services in:

· HMP Haverigg (Part-time – 2 days per week)

Believe you are right for this role?

You will be a qualified counsellor / psychotherapist who holds at least a Diploma in Counselling / Psychotherapy or equivalent and be registered with BACP or equivalent (preferably an accredited member). You will understand issues relating to trauma, be able to work as part of a team and feel confident working in a prison setting. You will also have a full, clean driving license, reliable access to your own vehicle and live within comfortable commuting distance of the prison.

CHRISTIAN HOUSE MANAGER

You will liaise with venue staff where our #SheMatters community courses are run, overseeing a timetable of courses and ensure that all course provision meets the high standards set by ID Grace House UK.

You will have personal experience of running courses with vulnerable and sometimes chaotic women.  The Course Facilitators make up part of the Grace House Team.

You will be responsible for and have experience of fundraising and be willing to work alongside the Imago Dei staff team to ensure the project is financially stable long term.

• Experience of supporting vulnerable women with mental health, substance misuse, domestic violence, challenging behaviours, offending behaviour

The Accommodation Advisor provides housing support, information, advice, and guidance (IAG) to men within the criminal justice system, ensuring successful resettlement into accommodation. You will be responsible for delivering a range of elements of our substance use work including case management, assessments, care planning, the delivery of one-to-one interventions to include harm reduction and motivational work, group work, and engagement support as well as other associated duties. You need to be committed to supporting people who use our services to make positive changes in order to prepare them for release into the community, and you will arrange continuity of care. You will work in collaboration with the clinical team and integrated working is a key element of this role. You will work within the prison setting and contribute towards the wider prison drug strategy.

Having experience of supporting people with complex health needs including substance use, you will bring knowledge and commitment to deliver drug and alcohol treatment. You will have a non-judgemental attitude and a desire to support the lives of people who use our services to be healthier and safer by delivering a high-quality service.

Experience of working with drug and alcohol use is essential. You will be a competent communicator, with the ability to work independently and be comfortable and enthusiastic, both with the highlighted client group and working in partnership with other service providers. Previous experience or knowledge of working with individuals on opiate replacement treatment, and/or involved in the criminal justice system will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• To work directly with service users to provide support, deliver action plans, and conduct follow-ups. This could be conducting initial assessments to determine the service user’s needs, providing tailored housing advice/support to service users transitioning from prison or serving a community sentence, or working with young people on various programmes.
• To liaise with partner organisations/agencies, as required, on service delivery.
• Where necessary (for example, when working with young people), challenge inappropriate behaviour in a fair and equitable manner while motivating them to change.
• To maintain caseload efficiently, and to maintain accurate case records and documentations on relevant systems.
• To maintain accurate service user records, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and data protection regulations.
• To attend staff meetings and training events as required.
• To adhere to safeguarding processes, manage safeguarding concerns and risk factors.

Essential Person Specification

• High level of numeracy and literacy (preferably GCSE standard or above).
• Good communication, interpersonal, advocacy, and collaboration skills.
• Respectful of cultural differences; commitment to equal opportunities and anti-oppressive practice.
• Competency in IT applications, databases, systems, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage own caseload.
• Mature, reliable, resilient, energetic, patient, and consistent in approach.
