Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting military children and young people (0 to 25 years) who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces. Founded in 2010 by Nikki Scott following the death of her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, the charity offers a unique blend of emotional, practical, and educational support to over 700 young people, and we have big ambitions to support over 1,000 children annually by 2030.

Scotty’s is seeking an experienced bereavement counsellor to join our small but effective team. The role involves supporting children and young people affected by bereavement, which may include death in service, illness, or suicide.
We want every bereaved military child and young person to have:

Our Bereavement Counsellor will be a valuable member of the SUPPORT Programme, delivering online 1:1 and group support to those who need it most. But all three programmes work closely together (we call this the Families team).
Role Mission:
The Scotty’s Bereavement Counsellor will work with our families who are struggling with their grief to help them understand their feelings, develop coping skills and build their new life.
This role will be accountable for:
Providing emotional support, counselling and therapeutic interventions to individuals and families coping with grief and loss. The role involves working compassionately and ethically with families affected by bereavement, helping them process their emotions and find ways to adjust to life after a loss.
The Bereavement Counsellor will work collaboratively with the SUPPORT team and the wider Families team to ensure that all work undertaken by Scotty’s is delivered in a supportive and sensitive manner and that Scotty families receive exemplary care.
What are the 3-month goals for this role:
· Within three months the Counsellor will have developed their knowledge of the range of services that Scotty’s offers to our families so that they can advise and support families in their case load.
· Will have begun to learn and understand the Scotty Values and the Scotty Way (we do things a little differently and our culture is very important to us and our families!).
· Would have begun supporting the families assigned to their caseload by the Head of SUPPORT. This will predominantly if not entirely be online 1:1 delivery.
· Will have completed all necessary safeguarding training and be part of the Scotty’s Safeguarding team.
· Begun attending peer supervision sessions with the SUPPORT team.
What are the 6-month goals for this role:
· Will have established a caseload as assigned by the Head of SUPPORT which is likely to include 1:1 online sessions, and may also include online group sessions, drop ins or workshops.
· Will have begun to support the wider Families team by attending Scotty events. At Scotty events, a SUPPORT team member often attends to provide support to any families in distress (this may require occasional weekend or evening work).
· Will be working cohesively with the Families team and the wider Scotty team to share your knowledge and skills. Scotty’s values a culture of learning and strives to ensure team members can learn from one another’s expertise.
· Will be contributing to peer supervision sessions to ensure all SUPPORT team members are able to give the best support to families.
· Regularly meeting with your selected external supervisor.
What are the 9-month goals for this role:
· Will be supporting a caseload as assigned by the Head of SUPPORT, with emerging impact data showing the success of your support. Scotty’s uses the Child Bereavement Service Questionnaire (CBSQ) developed by the CBN to monitor the impact of 1:1 support and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) for pre-bereavement support.
· Will be a valuable member of the SUPPORT programme, Families and wider Scotty team. Providing first rate bereavement counselling and support directly to families but also indirectly helping families by working collaboratively with other team members.
What are the key responsibilities of this role:
· Managing a caseload and delivering one to one counselling sessions as assigned by the Head of SUPPORT. This will predominantly be online delivery using Teams video calling but also other formats as needed by families.
· Facilitate group therapy or support groups when appropriate.
· Conduct initial assessment to determine clients’ needs and suitability for counselling.
· Maintaining accurate and confidential case notes in a timely fashion using our Salesforce based system in accordance with data protection and organisational policies.
· Adhering to all safeguarding requirements and operating as part of the Scotty Safeguarding team to maintain the highest standards across the charity.
· Supporting the development of resources and materials as needed.
· Working collaboratively within the SUPPORT team, including peer supervision.
· Working collaboratively and effectively within the Families team to ensure that families are directed to the appropriate services in a timely fashion. This could include directing families you are working with towards our educational grants, our respite breaks, our events, our school support or our advocacy.
· Liaise with healthcare and mental health professionals such as GPs, CAMHS and social workers or other professionals where appropriate to ensure holistic care and management of risk.
· Attending at least six (mandatory) face to face team days, normally located in the East of England.
· Participate in regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development.
Skillset and Experiences Required:
Essential
· Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). We may consider applications from practitioners with HCPC or NCS membership too.
· Level 4 Counselling / Psychotherapy Diploma or above.
· Significant experience (post qualification) providing bereavement counselling, to children or young people (0-25yrs).
· Experience and training with NICE-approved talking therapies.
· Demonstrated knowledge of issues surrounding bereavement.
· Ability to manage caseload effectively.
· Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate children’s needs (this may include evening work to avoid school hours at times).
· Excellent computer literacy.
· Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with families.
· Ability to engage with peer supervision and Scotty’s funded external supervision effectively.
· Ability to engage with a culture of continuous learning and support the learning of others.
· Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and independently to meet the needs of the service.
· Commitment to professional standards and ethical practice.
Desirable
· Accredited member of BACP.
· Knowledge or experience of or with the military community.
· Experience of online counselling.
· Experience (post qualification) providing pre-bereavement counselling or support.
· Experience of supporting those bereaved by suicide.
· Knowledge of or experience using assessment tools such as SDQs or CBSQs.
· Knowledge of statutory mental health provision and systems including CAMHS and EHCPs.
· Experience of providing counselling or support to young people with SEND or additional needs.
· Ability to drive with access to own transport is an advantage as some team meetings can take place away from public transport routes.
· Experience working within a hospice, NHS or charitable setting.

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. This is a unique opportunity to shape global conversations on climate science by empowering researchers in developing countries to publish and communicate their work, collaborating with some of the world’s leading SRM experts.
The Scientific Writing and Publishing Lead will play a key role in supporting researchers in the Global South to communicate their findings effectively and contribute to the global SRM conversation. Working within the Programmes team, reporting to the Programmes Director, and in cooperation with the Communications team, the Scientific Writer will collaborate closely with research teams and external partners. Responsibilities will include:
1. Support researchers with scientific writing and publishing
- Develop guidance materials on topics such as structuring research papers, writing abstracts, and best practices for peer-reviewed publication.
- Train and support researchers to develop, refine, and publish scientific manuscripts through one-on-one and group training sessions and technical editing and feedback.
- In collaboration with the Staff Scientist, help build climate researchers’ capacity to prepare and communicate their findings to different audiences.
- Advise research teams on scientific publishing norms, including peer review, and open-access publishing.
- Support researchers in choosing appropriate journals and navigating the submission and review process.
- Assist researchers in adapting their work for public and policy-facing communication channels, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
2. Lead and coordinate reports and publications
- Serve as the lead coordinator for a recurring international scientific report, overseeing contributions from multiple researchers and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Act as a writer for key sections of the report, synthesising insights from researchers into a compelling and scientifically rigorous narrative.
- Work closely with stakeholders and coordinate peer review and fact-checking to ensure the report’s accuracy, consistency, and accessibility.
3. Support Degrees’ scientific communication and outreach
- Collaborate with the communications team to ensure that external materials such as blog posts, website content, policy briefs and media articles are scientifically accurate and up to date.
- Work with the policy engagement teams to develop scientific summaries and briefings for a range of stakeholders.
- Keep Degrees staff and researchers abreast of new techniques for communicating research results to a range of stakeholders and training them how to use them.
- Ensure that information from our funded research teams is shared with the communications teams.
- Work closely with Degrees’ Staff Scientist and provide support when required.
4. Manage projects
- Manage multiple writing and editorial projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Work closely with programme officers, researchers, and external partners to coordinate content development and align with strategic goals.
- Working closely with the Staff Scientist in helping them to maintain an organised archive of scientific publications, reports, and communication materials for internal and external use.

Terms and remuneration
This is a remote, home-working role. You will be contracted for 40 hours a week on a full-time, fixed-term contract. Flexible working is available and encouraged.

About the role
As our Health & Safety Manager, you will handle the development, implementation, and ongoing management of our Health & Safety systems. You will act as the organisation’s competent person, providing expert advice and guidance, ensuring compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and related legislation.
You will monitor changes in legislation and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement. This includes regularly reviewing and updating Health & Safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments. You will offer practical, accessible advice to colleagues and support them in embedding safe working practices into their day-to-day activities.
In addition, you will develop and deliver mandatory training programmes, as well as tailored sessions to meet emerging needs. You will manage all incident reporting processes, including RIDDOR notifications to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), and ensure thorough follow-up. You will also produce regular reports and briefings for senior leadership and Trustees to keep them informed of key issues, trends, and compliance levels.
This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary on behalf of Sustrans.
About you
You should hold a NEBOSH qualification or another recognised Health & Safety certification, with proven experience in managing a system for Health & Safety within an organisation. A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and supporting regulations is essential, along with specific knowledge of Health & Safety considerations within the construction sector.
You will be confident in managing Health & Safety incidents, responding calmly and effectively to ensure appropriate actions are taken, and escalating to senior colleagues when necessary. Strong decision-making skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Excellent analytical and report writing abilities are required, as well as the confidence to present information clearly and effectively to a range of audiences, both in person and virtually.

Job Profile
CAFOD’s mission in the Catholic community of England and Wales is to inspire and equip Catholics to actively engage in the Church’s efforts to overcome poverty and injustice. Our regional teams focus on recruiting and supporting a dedicated group of volunteers within parish and school communities, empowering them to educate, engage, and inspire others to act in solidarity for the common good. The primary purpose of this role is to provide administrative and communications support to the Community Participation Coordinators across England and Wales, with a focus on the West & Wales region as the first point of contact. The purpose of the role is to lead an outstanding IT service across the Trust and cultivate a high performing team that supports all staff, people we support and other stakeholders.
Reporting to the Resource Director, the role will be key in supporting the digital transformation agenda, providing IT and data expertise that will enable higher quality of life for adults with learning disabilities and maximise efficiencies within the services that we provide.
Main Responsibilities

Developing the IT strategy in alignment with the Trust wide strategic goals and evolving digital transformation priorities;

Oversee the Trust’s approach to Cyber security, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practice. Being the subject matter expert for the organisation.

Oversee the Trust’s data and privacy framework, ensuring compliance with GDPR and other data protection laws and training and educating staff as required on data protection measures;

Lead, mentor and develop the IT team of four, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement;
-
Prepare and manage the IT department budget, optimising resource allocation to achieve maximum value and efficiency and ensuring the team is equipped with the necessary skills and resources;

Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of the Trust’s IT systems;

Providing IT expertise and advice for the software owners across the Charity including supporting the development of management reporting using Power BI;

Support the development of an environment of digital innovation and best practice, ensuring the use of technologies for the benefit of the diversity of the people we support;

Support any technology implementation plans ensuring all technology solutions are project managed effectively. To supports team members to ensure they identify risks, contingency plans and engage with stakeholders for effective collaboration;

To lead on procurement and contract negotiations with vendors of IT systems and software providers, ensuring ITTs and contract awards are in line with the Trust policies and value for money is achieved;

Producing regular reports on KPIs for the IT team and reporting reasons for variances against target
What you’ll bring to the role:

Recognised Degree in Business IT or Computer Science related discipline or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Proven track record in a senior management digital transformation position.

6+ years’ digitalisation experience.

5+ years Project Management experience.

Excellent working knowledge of Power BI

Proven track record on delivering complex projects.

Experience of having designed, implemented, and evaluated organisational transformation digital solutions and has delivered change that added value to the organisation.

Highly effective change agent who engages with senior stakeholders to deliver the digital program to the organisation.

Benchmarking skills and identifies best practice and knowledge of the digital landscape of organisations.

High degree of budget management experience associated with digital technology design and its adaptation.

Location & Travel
Remote based - Home
Home-based with regular travel to visit Communities in Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire, Yorkshire, and Worcestershire. Occasional overnight stays will be required. Ideally you will be located within travel corridors of Midlands to London or Manchester to York.

You will work closely with the Shop Manager to ensure the shop looks welcoming, visually appealing and the team of volunteers are motivated and keen to engage with customers and maximise sales.

You will assist the Shop Manager in the recruitment, support and development of a strong community focused shop team and empower them to maximise Shelter's income. Representing Shelter in your local community, ensuring that you and your team share your knowledge of Shelter's cause with customers, volunteers, donors and potential Shelter clients will also be important aspects of the role. You will always ensure a safe, clean, bright and happy environment for your team to work in and for your customers to shop in, in turn attracting potential donors and volunteers.

You will be in charge of grant programme design, development, and delivery in line with the new strategy. You will have the opportunity to work on new programmes and ideas, and to gather data and insight from this vital work (and other sources) that will help both future grant-making and our influencing work nationally.

Whilst grant-making experience would be helpful, what truly matters is your ability to strategically lead and drive projects that deliver impact. You’ll be at the forefront of developing and delivering new programmes, ensuring they align with key targets while bringing innovative ideas to life.
This role is not just about achieving KPIs, it’s about leading teams to achieve results. You will have experience of delivering presentations, developing ideas and projects collaboratively, and using data-driven insights to shape future projects and influence decision-making at a regional or national level. Strong project management, monitoring, and evaluation skills are key in this role, as are those of team- and partnership- working.
