HR Advisor - Job Description

Advisory

• Provide advice to line managers on employee relations (ER) issues e.g. policies, performance management, end-to-end absence management including return to work meetings, reporting and occupational health referrals etc. Able to resolve complex employee relation issues and conduct investigations where necessary.
• Provide advice to managers across all policy and practice areas, for example on family friendly policies such as maternity, paternity, shared parental leave, carers leave, etc.
• Support the maintenance of existing policy documentation and make changes where applicable
• Proactively take responsibility for the adherence and implementation of HR policies
• Support line managers in the management of employees in probation, and where necessary extension cases
• Support line managers in performance management practices, objective setting and performance improvement plans (PIPs)

HR Analytics

• Report on HR analytics monthly and quarterly for the HR Manager, for example on headcount, sickness, recruitment analytics, staff turnover and remuneration reports.

• Prepare payroll changes each month for HR Manager sign off
• Assist the HR Manager with annual benchmark surveys

Talent Acquisition and onboarding

• Work with the HR team for efficient and accurate end-to-end recruitment in all areas across the Diocese.
• Work in liaison with the HR Administrator to coordinate and execute the Diocese recruitment processes to include working with recruitment agencies, posting job adverts, liaising with line managers for shortlisting, offers of employment to suitable candidates, and onboarding.
• Ensuring the new joiner inductions are organised and all documentation has been received and checked.
• In the absence of HR Administrator, produce and issue relevant documentation following promotions, job title changes, salary increases and ensure that HR records are updated accordingly by the HR administrator.

Learning & Development

• Identify learning needs and appropriate methods of meeting needs in the most cost-effective way.
• Support the HR Manager in the delivery of training as required, including annual conferences and line manager training.
• Ensures training requirements are met to fulfil and maintain health and safety requirements such as First Aid and Fire Safety.
• Ensures that refresher training is completed for existing employees in data protection, cyber security, health and safety, and EDI.
• Be a trusted advisor and coach to line managers on people related issues.
• Ensure all documentation is completed by employees who are supported in their further training and education by the Diocese, including a Further Education Support Agreement.

General

• Regular review of data integrity and updates to the HRIS including regular audits.
• Support the HR Manager to drive workforce planning, talent acquisition, and retention strategies
• Deal with queries from the HR inbox to ensure effective and prompt responses
• Involvement in HR projects and new initiatives as required
• Updating of HR intranet pages.
• Contribute to HR-related projects such as organisational change, restructures, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Keep up to date with developments in employment law and HR best practices.
• Support the HR Manager with volunteer management

Working closely with the prison and their staff, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our prison-based reading and numeracy programme, maximising peer opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.

This role will be prison based, working 4 days per week, Monday-Thursday. We are looking for an experienced trusts and foundations fundraiser to join our team. This role will be a key part of our fundraising team, managing a portfolio of trust and foundations with the capacity to give up to £25,000 and the opportunity to assist with major grant funding bids which will enable us to drive forward our ambitious goals.

You will deliver high quality written applications and reports in line with funder deadlines and keep in touch with donors and prospects via phone, virtually and in face-to-meetings and visits.

About the role

As Store Manager, you will lead the day-to-day operations of our busy Belfast store, overseeing a dynamic retail space and you'll grow an established team of around 25 dedicated volunteers. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your energy, creativity, and leadership to one of our busiest shops, situated in a vibrant, high-footfall area south of the city — close to cafés, transport links, and other charity retailers.

You'll build strong relationships with volunteers, empowering them to take ownership and pride in their roles while ensuring the shop thrives both commercially and as a positive reflection of Save the Children in the community. With a keen eye for merchandising and a passion for people, you'll balance operational excellence with local engagement to drive performance and impact.

In this role, you will: 

• Build, inspire and develop an engaged, motivated volunteer team — championing diversity, inclusion and community spirit.

• Oversee all aspects of shop operations, ensuring retail excellence, compliance and a best-in-class customer experience.

• Engage proactively with the local community to grow the shop's profile and strengthen Save the Children's presence in Belfast.

About you

To be successful, it is important that you have:

• Previous experience in management or team leadership — ideally in a busy or volunteer-led environment.

• Excellent people and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and foster collaboration across diverse teams.

• Strong commercial awareness and confidence working to financial and operational targets.

• A positive, energetic, and adaptable approach, with a focus on problem-solving and community engagement.

• Good IT literacy and comfort using digital systems to manage operations, volunteers, and reporting.

• A genuine passion for Save the Children's mission and a commitment to our values of inclusivity, collaboration, and integrity.

Previous retail management experience is desirable, but not essential. If you have the drive, empathy, and leadership qualities, we'll support you to succeed.

Ways of Working: This role will be based on-site in the Botanic Avenue, Belfast shop. We're looking for someone able to work 5 days (35 hours) per week to include weekend working.

Job Purpose

We’re looking for a talented and motivated Communications and Engagement Officer who can effectively convey the life-changing impact of our work, motivate our community to volunteer, donate and fundraise to support our work, and ensure that the information and educational resources we provide reach those who need them most.

Key Responsibilities 

Communications:

· Act as the first point of contact for IPWSO’s public email address and social media channels and ensure timely and appropriate replies.

· Manage IPWSO’s social media channels, creating original and engaging content and posts, and actively engaging with our audiences.

· Manage Google Ad Grant campaigns with an emphasis on growing our supporter base and increasing individual giving.

· Keep up to date with emerging trends in digital communications and social media and recommend potential new channels for fundraising and audience engagement.

· Support the development of videos for IPWSO, in cooperation with IPWSO’s Project Manager and other colleagues. The type of work to be undertaken includes providing support for content development, speaker recruitment, filming and editing, as well as helping source external agencies as needed.

· Maintain and develop the IPWSO website ensuring its security and that it functions both as an effective supporter acquisition tool and a means by which people can easily access information about PWS.

· Produce compelling newsletters and an Annual Report.

· Support the review and update of IPWSO’s Communications Strategy in line with its Strategic Plan.

· Uphold and showcase the IPWSO mission and brand.

· Help oversee the production and design of a range of educational resources for families and professionals.

· Oversee copywriting and proofreading within IPWSO.

· Support IPWSO’s members and liaise with its stakeholders internationally in support of our shared goals.

Engagement:

 · Provide support for online events programmes, in cooperation with IPWSO’s Project Manager and the Online Events Committee.  The type of support to be provided includes hosting Zoom sessions, supporting speakers, follow up administration including evaluations.

· Support IPWSO’s Famcare Board by facilitating their online meetings and assisting with their online events.

· Work with the Project and Operations Manager to provide membership support, liaising with IPWSO’s member organisations as needed.

· Proactively engage with member associations to promote IPWSO and also to understand their needs and how IPWSO can be of help.

· Work with the Project and Operations Manager on our Educational Outreach programmes.  Work will include liaising with event organisers with regards to IPWSO’s booths at different conferences, ensuring follow up as needed (including help with preparation of PowerPoint slides), engagement follow up including data entry to update our database (Donorfy).

We seek someone with a degree or relevant experience in political or public affairs, extensive experience of influencing, organising campaigns and major events and negotiating at a senior level. You will be required to have a detailed level of understanding of government politics and the charity sector and an empathy to the cause.
