Philanthropy Manager

8-month FTC

£37,000-£38,000 FTE

Ideally full time 35 hours, flexible, would consider 4 days

Hybrid with 3 days in London office

Start: May/early June

Charity People are excited to partner with a charitable organisation to find them a new Philanthropy Manager, this is a maternity cover role.

As Philanthropy Manager, you will work closely with the Head of Philanthropy and Development team. You will actively manage a pool of individual donors to cultivate, steward and solicit donations for exhibitions, education, and programmes. You will have great administrative and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with high-net-worth people, and a sound understanding of fundraising and the sector. There is no line management responsibility for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Head of Philanthropy to implement and refine the organisation's major giving strategy, with a focus on securing mid-to-high level gifts.
  • Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, ensuring personalised cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Develop compelling fundraising proposals, working closely with Programmes colleagues to gather project and financial information.
  • Support the Head of Philanthropy in securing major gifts for key fundraising campaigns.
  • Collaborate with teams to identify opportunities for project-specific donations from existing members.
  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy Officer to research and identify new major donor prospects, building and maintaining a pipeline of potential supporters.
  • Ensure high-quality donor stewardship through bespoke engagement, reporting, and recognition opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate donor records, tracking gifts and ensuring accurate acknowledgment in exhibition materials, reports, and event invitations.
  • Play a role in planning and delivering key cultivation events, to ensure our supporters remain engaged and events meet agreed KPI's.
  • Keep up to date with giving trends and philanthropic developments, sharing insights with the team to inform strategy.
  • Attend the organisation's events as appropriate.
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained through the CRM system.
  • Ensure all personal details are managed in line with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  • Work with the Philanthropy team to ensure philanthropic partnerships do not carry financial or reputational risk to the organisation and are compliant with the organisation's ethical fundraising policy through active Due Diligence for Ethics Committee.
  • Work closely with the Finance team to ensure donations are managed efficiently.

You will bring:

  • Experience of cultivating, soliciting and closing 5 figure+ gifts from individuals.
  • Previous experience of contributing to or participating in strategy development, devising and implementing plans for major gifts fundraising.
  • Pro-active, resourceful and entrepreneurial approach to fundraising and ability to take initiative and work autonomously when required.
  • A highly organised and flexible approach to work, able to plan and prioritise a varied and busy workload and deliver agreed outputs to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into compelling narrative form.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to work collaboratively as part of the wider Development team and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Innovative and creative approach to research methodologies and identifying prospective supporters.
  • Previous experience using Salesforce or a comparable CRM system.
  • Knowledge of data protection legislation.
