The Ogden Trust is recruiting for a Programme Officer to support the delivery of our informal science learning programmes across England, working with universities and employers.

The Ogden Trust is a charitable Trust, supporting the teaching and learning of physics.  The Trust supports a range of initiatives, programmes and projects to promote the teaching and learning of physics.

The Programme Officer will report to the Programme Manager for the Opportunities for All strand of the Ogden strategy, which includes our work with universities to support physics outreach and public engagement and physics-related internships for 16-18-year-olds. They will manage the administrative and reporting side of the programmes, and organise related events.

Who we are looking for

You will need to have a good understanding of the informal science learning landscape and higher education in England and an interest in physics in particular. You must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with outreach professionals, academics and employers in physics-related sectors.

An excellent team player, you will have experience of working in programme administration and events organisation, with strong communication and organisational skills. A track record of building successful working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, particularly higher education and industry and the ability to work on your own initiative are valuable.

Alongside the skills and ability to identify compelling messages from partnership communications to gain support, through prayer, donations and support for our advocacy work. 

Suitable candidates will be:

• Educated to degree level equivalent.

• Advanced or intermediate Arabic would be advantageous.

About the Role

Through our range of programmes, we work to inspire and empower young people, whatever their background to succeed in work and life. A unique opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to manage the delivery of our EDI programmes and have a real impact on the participation of underrepresented groups in our programmes, as well as building on our established position within the skills sector.

The ideal candidate will have experience in developing, managing and evaluating senior stakeholder relationships with external networks. With a proven track record of consistently delivering projects and programmes with high-quality results, the successful candidate will have up to date ED&I knowledge and demonstrable experience of raising the profile of an organisation within this setting.  The candidate will be experienced in development of programmes and partnerships to suit delivery of strategic objectives, and be able to project manage internal colleagues to deliver against set KPIs.

The successful candidate will have a passion for working within a charity that focuses on developing young people from all backgrounds, and will have the experience, knowledge and understanding to drive forward EDI in external facing programmes.

Role purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead, develop and deliver WorldSkills UK’s external Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) programmes supported by stakeholder engagement strategies across our network of industry, education and government. The role will ensure that we engage external stakeholders to help deliver our ambition to be a leader, partner and ally in creating positive change for ED&I in the skills sector.

Key tasks and responsibilities

1. Deliver positive action activity for change:

• Support the development and delivery of WorldSkills UK’s external ED&I strategy. Ensure it is fit for purpose, has recognised long term goals and will deliver measurable change, reflecting organisational priorities around increased engagement with ethnic minority groups and females. Provide an overarching framework and help further develop strategic KPIs for our ED&I work, ensuring effective use of data, monitoring progress and performance.
• Work with the Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager to develop action plans that will drive our continuous improvement:
  • Support our skills competition development programmes to increase the diversity of young people engaged
  • Support the development of role models to showcase the impact of our work and encourage diversity in key areas of industry, including future priority skill areas
  • Support the development of learning resources that aid engagement with underrepresented groups
  • Support teams to ensure ED&I matters are considered and addressed as key components of all strategies, plans and programmes.

2. Manage the ED&I Advisory Group:

• This is a unique opportunity to work with experienced and prominent senior individuals from across education and industry who are invested in driving the agenda for ED&I.
• Lead the administration and ongoing development of our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Group.
• Engage the Group to help support, advise and challenge WorldSkills UK on its actions to remove obstacles and barriers faced by young people from under-represented backgrounds in our programmes.
• Report regularly to the Group on progress against KPI’s and facilitate reports for the WorldSkills UK Board.

3. Project Manage the ED&I Heroes Awards

• The Awards is an established flagship event which provides a platform for WorldSkills UK to celebrate success with its partners, amplify best practice and inspire others to drive change across the skills systems in education and business.
• Project manage delivery of the annual Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Heroes Awards, supported by relevant internal teams
  • Establish the nominations process
  • Co-ordinate the judging panel
  • Organise the awards ceremony
  • Manage the support of the awards partners.

4. Manage strategic relationships

• Manage a portfolio of ED&I focused Strategic Partnerships with organisations from across the skills sector, facilitating their support and engagement with our EDI programmes.
• Grow our network of partners to widen our reach, help further drive work in this area and collectively impact on the sector.
• Advise and support the development of the CEO’s international activities on ED&I with WorldSkills International (WSI).

5. Raise the profile of WorldSkills UK’s ED&I work:

• Work with teams across the organisation to support our Mission to ignite a national and global movement to help more young people, regardless of their background, get the best possible start in work and life.
• Support the Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager and Marketing and Communications Team to showcase the impact of our programmes:
  • Help to externally profile and articulate the value and impact of our activities using the channels and tools available
  • Seek opportunities to advocate for our work through stakeholder engagement and networking
  • Support the Corporate Partnerships team to identify and secure commercial income related to our ED&I initiatives.
  • Work across the organisation to build on existing external relationships and develop new strategic partnerships that reinforce our position as a skills sector leader.

6. Internal ED&I Liaison:

• Whilst not responsible for WorldSkills UK’s internal ED&I activities and agenda it is anticipated that the post holder will spend up to 10% of their time supporting and working with the Corporate Affairs team on internal ED&I matters, with the remaining 90% spent on external work.
• It is not essential that the postholder has extensive experience in this area.

7. General

• Produce requirement specifications in line with WorldSkills UK’s procurement strategies for all outsourced activity.

This role is office based (as above) but with flexible hybrid working. It is expected the postholder will attend the office at least once or twice a week.

Our three-year strategy is working well with improvements and expansions to our delivery model, a renewed vision and mission and we want to continue to develop and grow. To support this, we are recruiting for a new programme manager to grow our programmes and contracts in our South-Central Region. This area covers prisons HMP Winchester, HMP Bullingdon, HMP Grendon, HMP Springhill, HMP Aylesbury, HMP Huntercombe, HMP Woodhill, HMP Isle of Wight and HMP Gurnsey. We are seeking proactive, committed, and enthusiastic applicants to join our team and help us continue our journey.

Working closely with people in prison, prison managers, Shannon Trust staff and volunteers you will ensure development of our criminal programmes maximising literacy and numeracy learning opportunities for people across a number of prisons and contracts in your area. 

Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings, managing teams and contract performance, underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. We want to hear from applicants who can lead, drive performance and who are as committed to the cause as we are.

This is a home-based role which requires regular weekly travel across the South Central area to prisons and meetings (anticipated number of travel days are 2 days per week).

Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3250 children in 2024-25.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.

Job Summary

Chapter One is seeking a Birmingham/West Midlands Programme Manager from September 2024 who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to disadvantaged communities is maximised throughout the academic year.

The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base and who is able to travel frequently around the Birmingham and West Midlands area. The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers (also part-time) who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy autumn months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers

• Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms

• Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and communicate this to others

• Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up

• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom

• Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles

• Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed

Blue Marine Foundation is seeking a Programme Manager who will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Convex Seascape Survey and lead relations with the project’s funder. This role may suit someone from a corporate or account management background, preferably local to London or the southeast and willing to travel internationally as needed. This is an incredible chance to work on pioneering global science project and to join a highly impactful charity at the cutting edge of marine conservation.

The Convex Seascape Survey is two years into a five-year, multi-million-pound pioneering research project working to quantify and understand blue carbon stored in the coastal ocean floor and its potential to help mitigate climate change. Convex Seascape Survey is a partnership between Blue Marine Foundation, Convex Insurance Limited and the University of Exeter, delivered in partnership with a consortium of over sixteen other organisations.

Project management

· Lead the project management process, matched to the project grant agreement, including oversight of project finance and all deliverables.

· Coordination of project partners to ensure activities and deliverables are achieved in keeping with quarterly milestones.

· Relationship management with project partners, serving as a main point of contact and ensuring their ongoing satisfaction with the project’s progress and outcomes.

· Responsible for organising and feeding into Steering Committee meetings, as well as contributing as required to Advisory Group meetings.

· Managing supplier relationships, overseeing contracts and work package delivery. 

· Representing the project at relevant conferences and forums or visiting fieldwork sites. International travel will be required at times.

Reporting

· Report progress into the steering committee on a quarterly basis, flagging areas of concern and actioning steering committee advice.

· Develop quarterly reports and updates for the funder against deliverables.

· Create annual reports for public viewing, promoting the success and progress of the survey, with support from the communications team.

· Creation of visual presentations for advisory and steering committee updates. 

Finance

· Overseeing budget spending data for the project with support from Blue Marine’s finance team, and co-ordinate invoicing and budget reporting for the partners.

· Liaising closely with Blue Marine’s finance team to ensure efficient deployment and tracking of project funds. 

· Coordinating finance reports for the funder and partners. 

Communications

· Present the Project at public conferences and various stakeholder events

· Supporting the communications lead in delivery of project outreach through press, digital and social media

· Contribute interviews or quotes for press on project developments.

· Assisting the development and delivery of a bespoke, project-linked education programme

The successful applicant will be highly organised, with a rigorous approach to project management. Desired experience includes:

· Successful delivery of multi-million pound, multi-year research programmes or other projects

· Track record of high-impact project management, accurate reporting and successful project delivery

· Competent and confident public-speaker with the ability to communicate complex subjects to a range of audiences which could include corporate, political and public audiences

· High level of numeracy with the ability to track multiple budgets over time 

· Excellent communicator with a diplomatic approach to management

· Skilled at reporting, with the ability to condense complex information quickly

· Aptitude and ability to work under pressure

· Basic scientific understanding may be valuable, but is not a prerequisite

You will work with local partners on all aspects of programme delivery, from project implementation, review, monitoring and evaluation and budget management.

This will be coupled with significant experience of working in Sub-Saharan Africa. Specific experience of working in, Sierra Leone and the ability to communicate in the country’s language, Krio would be advantageous and is highly desirable.

Chapter One currently works in the following London boroughs: Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Southwark. The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers (also part-time) who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy autumn months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers

• Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms

• Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and communicate this to others

• Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up

• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom

• Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles

• Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed

• Proactively monitor classroom adherence/fidelity to the Chapter One model, including systematic review of data reports and volunteer feedback, taking proactive action to resolve problems that arise

The Training Ground Programme
Training Ground uses the power of the club badge to engage with young people whom universal support cannot reach. Working with targeted participants, aged 16-24, who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET), the programme provides, one-to-one mentoring, wraparound support, and access to physical activity sessions and mental health, employability, and life skills workshops.

The programme will target those furthest from the labour market and with additional support needs, for example, looked after or care experienced, young carers, homeless or at risk of homelessness, those with experience of substance abuse, previous involvement with criminal activity, and/or those with a SEND.

The Role

The Programme Manager will be responsible for the ‘Training Ground’ programme, overseeing all aspects of the project, and ensuring milestones and output targets are met.

The Programme Manager will build a network of referral contacts and partners, ensuring sufficient and appropriate referrals are made to the programme. You will manage the participant pipeline and oversee all stages of the participant journey, ensuring impactful mentoring is delivered and that robust tracking is in place. You will provide guidance and leadership to a team of mentors and ensure best practice.

The successful candidate will have a sophisticated understanding of the challenges and barriers facing young Londoners, who are identified as the furthest from employment, and have an awareness of how to support them to progress into employment.

You will oversee the delivery of an employability programme and coordinate all aspects of the programme.

The programme manager will provide 1:1 mentoring to a caseload of participants, giving support to participants to develop essential skills for employment, whilst providing practical support, interview coaching, career information, and guidance.

Women in Prison is a national, women-led, feminist organisation. We deliver front line support to women harmed by the criminal justice system, through our work in prisons, in the community and ‘through the prison gate’ as they resettle back into their communities. To provide strategic oversight and operational management for Women in Prison services in Surrey. The role will focus on delivering Surrey Women’s CRS probation contract, which involves providing holistic one to one support and advocacy to women serving community orders, and will also focus on development of the Surrey programme.

The Programme Manager is an exciting and influential role at RCPCH Global, a specialist unit within the College, in which you will lead the management of our maternal and child health programmes in Nepal and Myanmar, with some support for our work in Rwanda. Based in our London office, you will oversee the implementation of the programmes, including the delivery of high-quality programme activities.

As Programme Manager, you will monitor and manage all financial and budgetary aspects of the programme in compliance with donor requirements and take the lead on all programme reporting to donors, maintaining and ensuring high-quality programme monitoring and evaluation processes are adhered to.

Crucially, you will be responsible for liaising with local programme counterparts and stakeholders in the field, which may include regular field visits. You will also take the lead on the recruitment and management of long-term programme volunteer clinicians, as well as short-term advisory consultants, for the programme.

In addition to wider donor liaison, you will help develop new programme grant agreements with a preliminary focus on UNICEF and the James Percy Foundation, as well as promoting RCPCH Global activities to external stakeholders.

Suitably qualified in international development, public health, international and global health, health systems strengthening and child health, or with equivalent work experience, you should have excellent project/programme management skills and have a background in a relevant international/development management or implementation role. 

With demonstrable experience of designing, initiating and leading complex programme development processes, including with senior government counterparts, local partner organisations and international and multilateral donor agencies, you should have a significant understanding of budget management and financial reporting, including to bilateral and multilateral donors.

Previous experience of successfully managing large complex programmes, including supporting field-programme teams both remotely and in the field, within the international development and/or health sectors is essential, whilst experience of working in developing countries would be desirable.

Although based in London, this role may include some travel to Nepal. Additional travel to Rwanda as part of support role may be required. 

RCPCH Global is a unit within RCPCH which designs and manages a range of international projects and programmes to improve neonatal, child and adolescent health, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Our programmes use teams of skilled clinicians and other health professionals to work with counterparts in targeted low-income countries to train and mentor doctors, nurses and other health workers, as a means of helping to build the capacity and quality of the health systems in those countries.

We support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university. Our volunteers are trained and supported to be effective tutors who work with our students for an hour a week to raise their grades. About the role

This role is available at an important time for The Access Project as we expand our mission, seek to pilot a new programme model, and move into new school contexts. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the skills for programme improvement, a strong interest in research, and a deep passion for our mission to support students to place and succeed at selective universities.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is comfortable working across teams to make change. You’ll be the lead and expert on The Access Project’s in-school university readiness work with responsibility for designing and quality assuring the provision, supporting the learning and development for our school-based staff to effectively deliver the programme content. This position is integral to ensuring The Access Project is delivering a high-quality programme that supports the needs of our students and drives the outcomes of the programme across all regions and schools. The postholder will also be responsible for amplifying The Access Project’s voice in the sector and responding to policy updates; with a focus on bringing their knowledge of the Higher Education sector and the experiences of our students to decisions about the direction of our own programme. They will also support further development of our programme-level Diversity and Inclusion work, to ensure that the programme is tailored where feasible to the needs of all students.

Duties and responsibilities

1) Design & Development

• Act as a senior collaborator to the annual programme design process. Work with the Head of Process Improvement & Programme Quality to incorporate University Access Officer, Programme Leadership, school, and student feedback on how best to drive our short term and long-term outcomes across our programmes.
• Project manage the implementation of changes driven out of programme design. This includes the creation of or changes to delivery resources and training materials, as well as to our university readiness framework and the Salesforce system that supports delivery.
• Work with Programme Managers to understand their delivery challenges, develop solutions and answer questions around university admissions, widening access and The Access Project’s own University Readiness Programme.
• Act as a senior contributor to the development of The Access Project’s programmatic Diversity and Inclusion work, working closely with the University Access Officer D&I Lead. This includes strong engagement with the D&I working group and designing and implementing systems and support to better serve our students with inclusion needs.
   

2) Research and Policy

• remain critically engaged with the widening participation/social mobility sector, and able to synthesise key changes/challenges and ensure that they are applicable/actionable by the organisation.
