Job description

The Leadership Education Academic Partnership (LEAP) is a collaboration between MSF, the University of Manchester’s Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), which initially launched in 2019 as a 3-year pilot project. The aim of the project was to create a flexible higher education programme to provide MSF staff and humanitarian workers around the world with educational development opportunities, by integrating higher studies into their career paths and gaining a university accredited qualification up to an MSc in Humanitarian Practice. Since 2019 the project has grown and transitioned into an established programme, with more than 200 staff from across the MSF movement enrolled to date. LEAP is increasingly recognised and has become integrated as a key part of MSF’s global leadership offering. The programme has now been extended into the next phase, 'LEAP 2’, which will run until at least the end of 2025. The core programme team manages the partnership with HCRI and LSTM. Working collaboratively with staff and offices across the MSF movement, the team acts as the liaison point between MSF and the universities. The programme is positioned in the MSF UK/IE HAARP Unit (Humanitarian Advocacy Analysis Representation and Policy), which provides support to MSF’s medical work and to our teams on the front line through reflection, analysis, research, and advocacy.

The LEAP programme is part of a vision for our Global Workforce in which existing structural barriers are removed, enabling staff to progress and develop. The post holder will be responsible for managing the ongoing delivery, growth and development of the programme including the set-up of LEAP 2, with a focus on:

  • Positioning and setting the foundations for phase 1 of LEAP 2 (2022/2023)
  • Implementing the recommendations from the LEAP interim evaluation report
  • Preparing for the return to face-to-face learning in October/November 2022, working closely and in collaboration with the LEAP Programme Officer and University Partners
  • Developing and implementing the approach for recruiting external NGOs and students into LEAP with University Partners

  • Extensive management experience at mid/senior level, including managing and developing a team.
  • Previous experience in a Learning & Development/HR role.
  • Proven ability in managing projects/programmes including change management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to influence at all levels and gain buy-in and commitment from a range of people.
  • Demonstrable experience managing work-streams and/or projects across different teams based in multiple locations and time zones.
  • Previous experience working in a Humanitarian organisation in Headquarters or Field and an understanding of and commitment to humanitarian principles
  • Ability to remain focused and calm under pressure to deal with ambiguities and conflict.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to deliver to deadlines and to plan individual workload and team tasks, including meeting demands for changes at short notice.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook email, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Fluent English written and verbal.
  • Flexibility to work out of hours, including willingness to travel regularly to meet with stakeholders in UK and Europe, as required.
  • Undergraduate level university qualification/or equivalent.

MSF UK/IE is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to diversity and creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We encourage applications from all sections of our diverse community
