We’re seeking a community-builder to grow our water-testing and river stewardship community across the River Wey catchment and beyond and lead communications for the region and the wider Water Rangers community. 

This hosted role at Zero Carbon Guildford (ZCG) supports the River Wey catchment community co-created by Water Rangers, River Wey Trust, and ZCG. 

Project overview and objectives

Since 2021, Water Rangers, River Wey Trust and ZERO Carbon Guildford have built a thriving community-led programme across the River Wey catchment. We’re now looking for a special person to better support our volunteer-run river stewardship, to deepen community engagement and coordinate actions that support healthier rivers and their ecosystems.

About the role

• Contract: 12-month fixed term, potential to extend

• Hours: 4–5 days/week (0.8–1.0 FTE); includes planned evening/weekend work for events/training. Willing to consider 3 days/week for the right candidate.

• Salary: £31,553 FTE (can be pro-rated)

• Location: ZERO, Riverside Business Centre, Walnut Tree Close, Guildford, GU1 4UG (some WFH possible). Travel across the entire River Wey catchment (e.g. Guildford, Liphook, Godalming, Alton, Woking and Weybridge).

• Reporting: Employed by Zero Carbon Guildford, Supervised by Water Rangers with support from River Wey Trust

Role purpose and responsibilities

This is a new role, created with the aim of strengthening and growing the successful river stewardship and water testing in the River Wey catchment. 

Responsibilities:

Lead community building & volunteer enablement

• Recruit, onboard and train volunteers; supervise interns and support educators/community leaders.

• Deliver and support the delivery of volunteer-run education sessions, Community Lab activities, community pop-ups, and monthly monitoring.

• Create resources, project work plans and training assets; run training workshops; shadow/coach volunteers; manage rotas and recognition.
   

Lead communications

• Plan and deliver communications for river stewardship activities, water monitoring tools, and community events across social, web, newsletters, and press.

• Write compelling copy and create on-brand graphics, videos, posters, and slide decks.

• Tell impactful stories from the Wey and share across River Wey Trust, Water Rangers and ZCG channels.

Partnerships & recognition

• Act as a key contact across the Wey Landscape Partnership and align activities with shared priorities.
  Build relationships with local businesses and organisations; develop outreach decks and simple sponsorship materials.

• Provide stewardship and basic impact reporting to sponsors.

Fundraising & reporting

• Support and lead fundraising efforts (grants, sponsorship, donor engagement).
  Develop and improve sponsorship packages (Adopt-a-Testing-Site, kit/event sponsorship, employer volunteering).

• Track metrics (volunteers trained, sessions delivered, audiences reached, data logged, funds raised) and produce partner/funder updates.

Person Specification

We’re looking for someone with a combination of strengths in communications and community building and a willingness to learn. You should be self-motivated, organised, people-centred, and partnership-minded. Having a passion for the environmental and rivers is integral, but you don't need to be a water/river expert. You’ll need access to a vehicle for those events that can’t be reached on public transport (mileage will be reimbursed).

Essential skills & experience

• Communications: ability to write compelling copy and produce simple, on-brand visual materials.

• Community building: experience enabling volunteers, educators, or community groups.

• Training/facilitation: confident delivering workshops, onboarding sessions, or group activities.

• Programme coordination: experience delivering community, charity, education, or engagement projects.

• Organisational skills: able to plan, prioritise and manage multiple strands of work independently.

• Relationship building: comfortawble working with partners, local groups, or businesses.

Desirable skills & experience

• Previous experience in the charity sector.

• Fundraising or sponsorship experience (grant writing, donor engagement, or reporting).

• Experience managing budgets, project resources, and impact reporting.

• Experience in community science, citizen science, water science, biodiversity or environmental engagement.

• Digital/content skills: Canva/Adobe, Google Workspace, WordPress, Mailchimp, basic video editing.

• Experience running social media campaigns.

• Understanding of safeguarding/DBS considerations.

What success looks like (first 6–12 months)

• Growing reach and local visibility with strong, place-based stories.

• Monthly monitoring and regular schools/community engagements where volunteers can take help take the lead.

• £10k secured via grants and/or sponsorship (e.g. testing sites sponsored or grant secured, with support of supporting organisation mentorship).

About the role:

The Non-Crimes Assessment Worker will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process. They will work within the team to make proactive contact attempts with a high volume of new referrals. Their main focus will be contacting the police cases that may otherwise not get referred into the service. Once this contact is established complete initial needs and risk assessments. They shall provide initial advice and crisis safety planning before the case is allocated to an IDVA/caseworker or referred to the appropriate partner agency for ongoing support. They will provide this high quality support based upon a client led needs and risk assessment to women from the age of 18 and over who access the domestic abuse service. They will advise women on criminal justice, civil remedies, housing and related matters.

About You:

You will have an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on survivors and children. Be skilled in risk management and safety planning and is experienced in domestic violence advocacy, who has worked with a high volume of clients who have complex and multiple needs. You will have a countenance that remains calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis and you will have experience working within safeguarding procedures.

Leadership

Qualifications, knowledge, and experience

• More than 2 years post-qualified at graduate or post graduate level Counselling Diploma or equivalent [of two years minimum duration including personal counselling or psychotherapy].
• BACP Registration or Accreditation and/or eligible for other Professional Accreditation e.g. UKCP/HPC.
• Strong team-management and line-management experience is required, including demonstrated experience in supervising, developing, and supporting staff.
• An in depth understanding of counselling theory and practice and working to short-term models.
• A sound understanding of child developmental processes, Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding issues and procedures, along with proven experience in safeguarding young children.

About the Service

Community Outreach Workers supports people with complex needs who have mental health as a primary need. This includes people who may have drug and alcohol difficulties. Particularly when they are coming into repeat contact with Police, Tenancy Sustainment Services, Housing and Homelessness Services and Environmental Health Services.

The service will be delivered in across Hertfordshire county, and also includes Amersham and Chesham.

Referrals will come from Paradigm Housing Association and will be for their tenants who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

The purpose of the Hertfordshire Mind Network Community Outreach Worker role is to:

• Provide advice, information, onward referral and holistic support to clients with coexisting drug and alcohol difficulties and mental ill-health. These will be clients who are presenting to the Police, Anti-Social Behaviour, Tenancy Enforcement, Housing and Environmental Health Services across the county.
• Ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly.
• Remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• Embed a person centred and solution focused approach in all aspects of the role.
• Raise greater awareness of complex needs and the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) amongst local service providers. Supporting them to gain confidence in working positively and consistently with people who have multiple needs.
• Complete reporting requirements.

About the Service

The aim of the Hertfordshire Mind Network Domestic Abuse Casework Service is to provide advice, information, and support to survivors of intimate partner or familial violence living in the community about the range, effectiveness, and suitability of options to improve their safety and that of their children. All advice will be based on a thorough understanding and assessment of risk and its management.

About the role

The purpose of the Hertfordshire Mind Network Community Outreach Worker role is to:

• Provide support and advocacy services to clients experiencing domestic abuse
• Ensure direct contact is made with the client within a specified time of an incident being reported to the police and to carry out a risk assessment.
• Ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly.
• Maintain and enhance service delivery standards and effectiveness.
• Support the team with case management and volume of referrals to ensure a short waiting time and referrals are contacted promptly and assessed appropriately.
• Collate and obtain feedback regarding the effectiveness of the service.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the wellbeing of clients who are affected by domestic abuse.
• Contribute to a reduction in repeat victimisation
• Reduce the number of victims withdrawals of witness statements
• Be aware of the impact on children of domestic abuse and make referrals to appropriate agencies to support the children where necessary.
• Increase the reporting of children at risk of harm
• Increase successful court outcomes by proactively supporting clients and work with the witness services for cases going to court
• Work with the wider team within Hertfordshire Mind Network and support clients in accessing additional support e.g. counselling, peer support, employment support and self-development courses
• Work with other professionals e.g. police, health, social care, housing, and signpost and liaise with such agencies as necessary
• Work with and signpost to other third sector partner agencies as necessary
• Provide a first point of contact for professionals and clients and pass on necessary cases or referrals to the Domestic Abuse Caseworker.
• Refer to the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) if required and local IDVA service.

The Job

As Financial Accountant, you'll lead a small team and report to the Head of Financial Accounting. You'll be responsible for producing accurate financial statements, managing audit deliverables, ensuring compliance with charity and company law, and driving improvements in financial processes and reporting. This is a hands-on technical role with leadership responsibilities, requiring collaboration across finance, systems, and planning teams to deliver a seamless finance function.

The Person

You'll be a qualified accountant with strong technical expertise in SORP/FRS102 and experience in a large, complex organisation. Open to candidates coming straight from practice, especially those who have previously laised with charities.

The Role

The Finance & Operations Coordinator is a central position in a small, purpose-driven team. The role provides direct support to the Managing Director and works closely with the Finance Committee to ensure that the charity’s financial and operational systems are well managed, compliant and effective.

This is a broad and hands-on role that involves managing day-to-day UK operations, supporting financial oversight, ensuring smooth coordination with our in-country partners, and keeping our administrative framework in excellent order.

You will be responsible for maintaining clear systems, meeting key reporting deadlines, and ensuring that the organisation runs efficiently behind the scenes. The role suits someone who is proactive, reliable, and comfortable managing a wide variety of tasks with independence and initiative.

Key Responsibilities

Finance and Reporting

• Maintain accurate financial records in Xero, reconciling transactions and processing payments for invoices, payroll and expenses.

• Allocate receipts and donations to the correct funds and ensure supporting documentation is filed systematically.

• Prepare and submit Gift Aid claims to HMRC.

• Collate quarterly financial and narrative reports from Moroccan partner NGOs and follow up on missing information.

• Support the Managing Director and Finance Committee with budget preparation, analysis and audit documentation.

• Ensure that annual accounts and financial reports are submitted in line with Charity Commission requirements.

Operations and Administration

• Oversee and improve shared filing systems (Teams/SharePoint), ensuring that all administrative and financial records are accurate, up to date and easy to access.

• Manage the main email inbox, responding to or redirecting correspondence promptly and professionally.

• Coordinate logistics for meetings, events, and annual project visits in Morocco.

• Support the Managing Director with scheduling, documentation, and general administrative follow-up.

• Monitor compliance tasks, ensuring that all Charity Commission and internal governance requirements are up to date and properly documented.

Donor and Partner Relations

• Act as a first point of contact for donors, supporter schools, hotels and individuals.

• Process and acknowledge donations, issue receipts and maintain accurate donor records.

• Proactively follow up with existing and potential supporters, helping to build and maintain relationships.

• Liaise with Moroccan partners to ensure that project and financial reporting are on track and shared on time.

Governance and Oversight

• Support the Finance Committee and Managing Director with preparation for trustee and committee meetings, including gathering reports and ensuring actions are followed up.

• Assist with external audits and reviews, coordinating with UK auditors and Moroccan partners as needed.

• Maintain oversight of risk management, safeguarding and health and safety documentation, ensuring relevant information is filed and accessible.

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience with Xero or similar accounting software, and confidence handling day-to-day bookkeeping.

• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word) and comfortable using Teams/SharePoint.

The Role

They aim to diversify their income streams over the next few years and invest resources in building a brand that will capture people's imaginations and hearts, thereby building on a small pool of existing donors and growing individual giving, legacy, and major donor work.

With increased resources allocated to diversifying income, this post would suit someone interested in a start-up project focused on building individual giving from scratch, including regular and one-off donations, cultivating donors, including major donors, coordinating and developing event-based fundraising, and legacy-based giving.

You would manage a small team od two and work with the Senior Trust Fundraiser to provide support to other Strategic Programme leads, to ensure they maintain a high standard of reporting to trusts and foundations.

Following an organisational review, EMMS is creating a new Director of Fundraising role, separating fundraising and communications into two Director posts. EMMS is financially stable with healthy reserves, currently raising around £400,000 per year in fundraised income, plus a significant time-limited major donor gift ending in 2028.

The Director of Fundraising will:

• Lead the development of a diverse, sustainable fundraising strategy across multiple income streams (trusts and foundations, major donors, individual giving, community, corporates, legacies).

• Be hands-on in delivering this strategy, supported by an experienced Head of Partnerships and Philanthropy and a Stewardship Manager.

• Manage and grow relationships with donors and stakeholders, meeting ambitious income targets.

• Oversee budgets, forecasting and reporting, and contribute to organisational strategic and business planning.

• Line manage fundraising staff, setting objectives/KPIs and supporting their development.

• Sit on the Executive Leadership Team and play a proactive role in the wider management and development of the charity, including reporting to the CEO and attending some Board meetings.

An experienced senior fundraiser with a strong track record of strategic income growth across multiple channels, excellent relationship-building skills, strong leadership and team management experience, and knowledge of the Scottish charity and fundraising landscape. You should be confident operating strategically and operationally, familiar with fundraising regulation and good practice, and able to communicate effectively with both Christian and secular audiences in line with EMMS’ faith-based heritage and health mission. Degree-level education or equivalent experience is required; membership of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising (or willingness to join) is expected.
