About the role
The Member Subscriptions Officer manages the administration and finance of NCVO’s membership subscriptions. Key duties include running monthly renewals, issuing invoices, managing payments and reducing aged debt. The role involves regular use of NCVO’s CRM system to ensure accurate records and efficient processes.
The post holder will handle member enquiries, support new applications and maintain strong relationships with members. Working closely with NCVO’s Finance team, they will ensure timely direct debit collections and contribute to income tracking and forecasting.
This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, numerate, and confident using databases, with experience in financial administration and customer service.

This role sits within the Voice & Impact directorate, a team focused on amplifying the voices of charities in civil society and making positive change for the future. V&I comprises NCVO’s policy and public affairs team; communications, campaigns and marketing team; digital content team and membership and engagement team.

Membership and engagement is a newly evolved team that exists to grow, connect and convene NCVO’s membership. The team acquires roughly 1,400 new members a year and offers care and support to retain 90% of its current 17K members.

Summary
The Human Resources department provides a strategic and operational HR service to the seven National Church Institutions (NCIs) and the 42 Diocesan Bishops' offices. Our HR Operations team focusses on the entire employee lifecycle providing support, advice and guidance to senior leaders, line managers and staff. The Organisational Development team lead on culture, values, wellbeing, development and our belonging & inclusion strategy. Through our External Service team, we also offer HR support on a consultancy basis to other Church of England organisations including our dioceses and cathedrals.

The NCIs comprises a wide variety of functions and professions to support the mission and ministries of the Church by working with those who serve in parishes, dioceses, schools and other ministries, and with partners at a national and international level.
- Reviewing risk assessments that have been completed by staff and line managers, requesting additional information, and advising on risk mitigation;
- Supporting requests for adjustments and additional equipment may be required, including requests for Access to Work funding, liaising with Facilities and Technology Services as required;
- Supporting the Head of Health & Safety in reviewing accidents and incidents that occur across NCI sites or involve colleagues in the course of their work;
- Advising staff travelling overseas on potential risks;
- Managing the lone worker safety devices used by the NCIs;
- Administering our Health Cash Plan scheme;
- Day to day administration of our Health & Safety reporting system;
- Assisting in the preparation of Health & Safety reports e.g., the Joint Staff Council and Health and Safety forum.
As an adviser within the HR Operations team, you will also get involved in responding to other types of HR queries via email, phone and Teams chat, and supporting colleagues in using our Oracle Employee and Manager self-service.
Key role requirements:
- This is a hybrid working role which can be based in our offices in either York or London.
- The HR Operations Team typically works from the London office 1-2 days per week depending on business need. Travel to other sites may also be required from time to time.
- Visits to other NCI work locations may also be required from time to time.
You'll need previous experience of advising on and reviewing health and safety risks, including Display Screen Equipment, lone working and overseas travel with, or working towards, a recognised Health & Safety certificate (e.g. IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent).
We're looking for someone who has:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with accuracy and attention to detail including with numerical data. You will need to be able to communicate clearly to stakeholders at all levels within the organisation.
- An enthusiastic and highly organised approach to work, with the ability to understand and process high volumes of information. You will need to be able to work comfortably with competing priorities and show flexibility in your approach to customers to understand differing expectations.
An interest in and willingness to learn broader HR policies and processes. Experience in HR in addition to Health & Safety would be an advantage.

This role requires regular travel and overnight stays across the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) to deliver learning interventions to meet the needs of colleagues. The expectation is twice-three times a week on average and there is also a requirement to attend Haig House once a month for team meetings and to build relationships with colleagues outside of delivering training.
You will be contracted to your home address, where you will be expected to work – using our collaboration tools – when not travelling.

1.Key areas
- Conduct legal research into past cases and documents
- Draft and prepare claims or other legal documents

Militaries are major contributors to the climate crisis but it remains unclear how large their greenhouse gas emissions are because reporting under domestic and international frameworks is often voluntary or incomplete.
Since 2021, CEOBS and our international network of academic and civil society partners have played an important role in drawing attention to this data gap. Our Military Emissions Gap project works to communicate the scale of the reporting gap, to mainstream the topic in climate and military spaces, and to help create the conditions whereby the emissions from military activities and armed conflicts are properly documented and understood. We work with a wide range of stakeholders, from militaries, academia and the media, to policy makers and peace groups.
Research is vital to the project, underpinning all of our advocacy and awareness-raising activities and, thanks to recent grant funding we are now in a position to create a dedicated post for the project.
The role
You will work with our Climate Advocacy Coordinator, Director and academic partners to produce and contribute to unique research on military and conflict emissions, military-related climate impacts, and comparative studies on civil mitigation and decarbonisation strategies.
