As our Digital Content Officer you will support our Website Content Manager to create content so that our diverse audiences can find what they want on our website quickly, have a seamless experience, and can take action easily - such as donate, fundraise, sign up as a volunteer, join our youth movement, and learn how to do first aid.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Experience within a similar role with some understanding of website analytics and a keenness to learn more
- Experience of developing and testing website content
- Experience of using a content management system (CMS) to create and edit content on a website.
- Experience of co-ordinating content libraries such as image, film, design of case studies
- Good technical ability with an understanding of AX, A/B tests & user personas and experience of using Tag Manager, HotJar, Semrush and other tools

You will help to create website content that leverages our brand, the impact of our work and personal stories to compel people to support us online, become volunteers, as well as make sure that our sector-leading first aid information is accessible to everyone. You will:
- Assist the Website Content Manager in reviewing content and delivering our website content strategy.
- Work with the Content Manager to produce clear and compelling content and ensure stories are used across the website to motivate people to donate
- Work with stakeholders from different teams across the organisation to ensure that content meets KPIs, user needs and accessibility standards
- Use analytics tools to monitor and improve web content, deliver a seamless website experience and improve conversions.

Somerset Environmental Records Centre (SERC) is a member of the Association of Local Environmental Records Centres and has close links to the National Biodiversity Network, and the National Federation of Biological Recorders. Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Strategy and Business Development:
The SERC Manager will be part of the Operational Management Team supporting the Senior Leadership Team through clear strategy and business development by:
- Develop and oversee the strategic development, business planning and operational management of SERC.
- Ensuring SERC is financially sustainable and growing by seeking income generating opportunities to develop SERC business, identifying additional markets and services, and developing and implementing a Business Plan.
- Positioning SERC as the ‘go to’ ecological data evidence provider for the county and leading the marketing and communications to drive this forward.
- Ensuring SERC has capability and resource to achieve commitments through Service Level Agreements, ensuring that SERC is having a positive contribution to planning and policy across the county.

Responsibility 1: Data Analysis and Services
Manage a robust data collection and interpretation service by:
- Establishing customer requirements, including researching and monitoring of users’ needs.
- Contributing high quality information and searches to enable effective planning decisions
- Overseeing the work programmes in data capture, entry, management, analysis, interpretation and dissemination to support evidence driven decision-making.
- Negotiate SLAs with key existing and new service users
Responsibility 2: SERC Team Management
Achieve the aims of the Business Plan agreed with SERC Executive Group and Somerset Wildlife Trust through:
- Managing the SERC team in the setting of objectives, considering succession, priorities and work programmes to ensure high quality, efficient and timely delivery of projects and services to users.
- Developing and applying Local Records Centre protocols and policies, meeting the requirements of data users and providers, as well as professional codes of conduct and the promotion of national standards, through achieving ALERC accreditation.
- Keeping abreast of and contributing to political and technical developments in biodiversity data management and make presentations of SERC’s work and national policy development to seminars and conferences.
- Receiving and resolving complaints and representations about SERC services from data users and providers.
- Setting and managing budgets, risks and issues.
Responsibility 3: Develop through Advocacy, Influence and Delivery
Be a specialist and nurture strong relationships by:
- Developing excellent relationships with national and local recording communities and support them to contribute high quality useful data that informs an evidence-led strategy to improve Somerset’s natural environment.
- Coordinating the SERC Executive Group to deliver and monitor an effective strategy for the Records Centre that provides usable data for planners, Service Level Agreement holders and working with Somerset Wildlife Trust, in the provision of a conservation strategy for the county.
- Set data access parameters to secure SERC business model while making data as open access as possible
- Developing secure funding and commercial income streams, and manage SERC project-based work, meeting the aims of an agreed Business Plan and Somerset Wildlife Trust’s strategy.

Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will:

Work on the development of technical frameworks, guidelines, standards, certification or audit processes relevant for implementing regulation for children’s rights in the digital environment at international, EU and UK levels. This includes representing 5Rights in technical meetings and working groups, such as at the IEEE and CEN-CENELEC.

What we do
Our Strategy aims to enhance the effectiveness of nutrition policy and programming by improving knowledge, stimulating learning, building evidence and providing support and encouragement to practitioners and decision-makers involved in nutrition and related interventions.
ENN’s portfolio includes projects specialising in Infant Feeding in Emergencies, Wasting and Stunting, Adolescent Nutrition and Management of small & nutritionally At-risk Infants under six months & their Mothers (MAMI), as well as our highly regarded international publication, Field Exchange (FEX).
Field Exchange (FEX) is ENN’s established online and print technical publication on nutrition and food security in emergencies and high burden contexts. The first edition was produced in 1996 in response to a demand by international agencies for a way to capture and rapidly ‘exchange’ humanitarian programming experiences, to share relevant research, evaluations, news and offer a platform for technical views. Field Exchange enables fast track publication of programming experiences of relevance to nutrition in emergencies and high burden contexts. We feature articles across sectors and from a range of contexts, from acute emergencies to fragile and conflict affected states. We include both original articles and summaries of relevant research. We welcome suggestions for articles to feature in Field Exchange at any time.

Purpose of the role
This role will provide oversight, coordinate and manage the editorial process of publishing Field Exchange that includes tracking ideas, soliciting and securing submissions of Field Exchange content, critically appraising potential content, discussing, brokering and supporting content development with authors, coordinating input from the Field Exchange Editorial Team, liaising with copy editors and designers and ensuring content deadlines are scheduled and are adhered to, as well as ensuring quality, relevant and timely curated content is produced and disseminated. This position will also take a lead role in implementing the Field Exchange Strategy 2024-2029.
Key Responsibilities
Content development
- Actively seek opportunities for FEX content across a broad range of technical areas, leveraging and developing internal and external contacts and networks.
- Seek and secure a spectrum of contributors, prioritising country stakeholder lead and co-authorship. And including Francophone representation (in collaboration with FEX francophone lead).
- Communicate with potential authors to explore opportunities for content and provide support and guidance in development of articles (structure, writing and technical content).
- Edit articles to address structure, flow and language.
- Appraise articles for rigour and validity. Pose technical questions to authors to clarify, substantiate, elaborate and prompt deeper reflection and learning.
- Identify need for and coordinate internal or external peer review for prospective articles.
- Write succinct summaries (abstracts) of original articles.
- Summarise published research papers and reports into summary articles.
- Collate themes and key messages across all articles for editors and work with them to produce editorials and technical briefs.
- Proof-read designed issues and briefs.
- Review content sub-edited and summarised by other FEX team members for quality control and consistency.
- Ensure due process is followed for translation and quality assurance of translated content (currently in French only).
Dissemination of FEX content
- In collaboration with the ENN communications lead:
- Develop podcasts and soundbites, developing questions for author interview podcasts in collaboration with authors.
- Proactively seek blog content from authors, leading its content development, review and finalisation.
- Contribute to development of a communications plan for each FEX issue in order to disseminate content optimally.
- Curate and initiate development of FEX website content, identifying areas for development.
- Represent ENN at events including conferences, webinars etc. to promote and disseminate FEX, including development of FEX materials such as leaflets, videos etc. where required.
FEX strategy implementation
- Take the lead in the implementation of the FEX strategy 2024-2029, such as by:
- Making smaller adjustments to the FEX process as identified.
- Coordinating larger pieces of prioritised work, for example by:
- Building the capacity of authors through a more comprehensive approach.
- Expanding our reach to younger audiences.
- Engaging with academic institutions in more resource-poor settings.
- Mobilise resources for FEX through engagement with donors and other FEX contributors through identifying potential sources of funding, engaging with donors and ‘selling’ FEX, and writing proposals to secure funding.

In October 2022 Salford City Council commissioned Salford CVS to undertake research into the strengths of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as part of their Joint Needs and Strengths Assessment.
Every three years since 2008, Salford CVS leads on State of the VCSE Sector research in Salford and also across Greater Manchester. Working with other local infrastructure organisations, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the VCSE sector. Our last research report was published in 2021 and we have started planning for the research to be conducted this year.
In August 2023 we further developed our VCSE sector research and insight work with the commencement of our Salford 99 longitudinal study. This research project is designed to understand the issues affecting the VCSE sector in Salford and aims to track 99 VCSE organisations every six months for a three-year period, so that we gain ‘live’ insight in between our three-yearly State of the VCSE sector large research project. Alongside this work we conduct a Pulse Check survey with a variety of VCSE organisations to get a snapshot of what is changing for them each quarter.
This exciting VCS Research and Insight role involves a combination of VCSE engagement and insight work across Salford.
