London N7 and flexible hybrid working
The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) is an independent charity established in 1967. For over 57 years, we have promoted our vision of a society in which people can live safely and are treated with equal dignity and respect, regardless of where they are from or how they came to the UK.
To achieve this, we provide legal advice, representation and holistic support to migrants experiencing injustice, poverty, and discrimination; we undertake parliamentary advocacy and expert policy analysis; we speak out and challenge damaging and discriminatory media narratives about immigration; we use law as a tool of resistance; we work in solidarity with migrants and grassroots groups, and we build campaigns that both build power and influence power; working towards radically transforming immigration and asylum law and policy.
JCWI has been through a period of transition over recent years, with pressures on the organisation, its staff, capacity, and resources increased by successive political attacks on migrant communities, the eroding of migrants’ rights through legal and policy change, the rise of the far-right in the UK and the widening gap between the rich and powerful and Britain’s multi-racial working class.
It is in this context that JCWI is seeking an empathetic and collaborative leader given we are in a time of immense political upheaval both in the UK and across borders. We need someone who can unite us towards a refreshed collective resistance to increasingly unfettered state and corporate power.
The successful candidate is likely to have a sound grasp of the key issues JCWI works on and the political climate in which the organisation operates, to provide confident leadership and strategic guidance to all teams, and to maintain and build relationships with key stakeholders. This includes setting and reviewing the organisation's objectives within the framework of the five-year strategy, developing and reviewing the annual business plan and fundraising plan, maintaining JCWl's relationships with trusts, foundations, and other key partners, and acting as one of the lead spokespeople for the organisation in the media and elsewhere.
JCWI has a proud history of leadership from racialised people and people with lived experience of the immigration system, and therefore we strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of the immigration system and those who are representative of the communities we work with. We also welcome applications from anyone who has faced marginalisation or oppression, including people of colour, people who identify as LGBTQIA+, disabled people, and/or people who are working class or from working class backgrounds.

Application is by way of CV with a Supporting Statement of no more than two sides of A4, that should set out your motivations for applying and outlines your suitability for the role as set out in the job description as well as how you meet the person specification.

About Vision Action
Vision Action, formally Vision Aid Overseas, is a UK-based charity, with a focus on fighting poverty by transforming access to eye care services in lower- and middle-income countries in Africa. The charity was established in 1985. Our work focuses on the development of services for uncorrected refractive error and primary eye health. Uncorrected refractive error is the world’s leading cause of avoidable visual impairment, with an estimated 670 million people affected worldwide. We develop programmes that integrate training, primary eye care, school eye health and facility developments into national and regional eye care plans, seeking always to be responsive to local need. In this way, we help children to learn and adults to earn so that they can provide for their families. Currently, the organisation has programmes operating in Ethiopia, Ghana, Zambia, and Sierra Leone.
We need great people to help us on this journey. You do not need to have a public health, eye care or charity sector background to work with us. We need our people to be self-starters, innovators and able to get on and work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

We’re looking for a brilliant Communications & Campaigns Lead to help shape Z2K’s voice, build our brand, and drive real-world change. This is a hands-on role at the heart of a small, fearless charity that consistently punches above its weight.
From securing major media coverage to mobilising supporters and helping force two government U-turns on disability benefit cuts, our communications and campaigns are delivering real impact. With a re-brand on the horizon and a new strategy, this is a particularly exciting time to come on board.
If you’re passionate about challenging injustice through powerful storytelling and action - and want your work to make a genuine difference - we’d love to hear from you.
Why work with us?
Z2K is a bold anti-poverty charity using frontline evidence and powerful campaigns and communications to drive systemic change. We punch well above our weight - recently helping force two unprecedented government U-turns on disability benefit cuts for example. Our media voice is loud and trusted, with recent appearances on BBC News, Channel 4 News, the Today programme, Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, and regular comments in the Guardian, Mirror, and The Sun.
This is a particularly exciting time to join us. We’re planning to launch a new brand, rolling out a new strategy, and growing our supporter base. We’re fearless, person-centred and unapologetically challenging. But most importantly, we’re delivering real, life-changing wins - this is your chance to be part of it.
About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Communications and Campaigns Lead to deliver high-impact public communications and campaigns that strengthen Z2K’s profile, influence change and support our fundraising goals.
Working closely with the Director of Policy & Engagement and colleagues across the organisation, you’ll lead the planning and delivery of engaging communications and campaign activity across digital, media and supporter channels. You will also mobilise supporters and communities for in-person actions that amplify our campaigns and deepen public engagement.
You’ll play a key role in bringing our new organisational strategy and planned rebrand to life - ensuring our external messaging reflects our values, demonstrates our impact, and helps secure the income and influence needed to deliver our mission.
A core part of the role will involve ensuring our fundraising communications are compelling and strategic, helping us build stronger relationships with supporters and funders. Equally, you’ll work with colleagues and communities to design and deliver campaigns that are shaped and delivered by people with living experience of poverty.
This is a broad and varied role, ideal for someone who thrives on collaboration, wants to be hands-on in delivery, and is passionate about challenging injustice through powerful storytelling and action.
About You
You’ll be a skilled and creative communications and campaigns professional, with a track record of delivering high-impact, audience-focused content and activity across digital, media and supporter channels. You’re confident managing multiple priorities, spotting opportunities in a fast-moving external environment, and adapting messaging to maximise reach and impact. Experience of in person mobilisation would be an added advantage.
You’ll bring strong project management skills and enjoy working collaboratively across teams to produce clear, compelling communications that support fundraising, influence policy, and build public pressure. Whether it’s crafting supporter actions, writing stories that centre lived experience, or securing media coverage, you’ll be comfortable leading delivery while contributing ideas to wider strategic thinking.
You’ll have a keen understanding of how to build trust, grow engagement, and communicate complex issues in a way that connects with audiences. You’ll also be politically engaged and passionate about using communications and campaigns to challenge injustice and drive change.
In return, you’ll join a small charity that punches above its weight with regular coverage in major media outlets and a strong voice in national conversations on poverty. It’s an exciting time to come on board, with a rebrand ahead and a huge opportunity to grow our brand as we make a real difference for people in poverty.

We still do all the great stuff with resources and holidays, but in the last few years, we have sharpened our vision with a renewed focus to help the ‘95%’ of young people (primary and secondary school age) across the UK who don’t go to church, and had opportunity to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus. We do this through equipping and resourcing the local church, training up volunteers and paid workers from local churches (we call them ‘Faith Guides’) and collaborating with local and national partners across the UK to connect with children and young people and support them on a journey of exploring faith in a way that is relevant and meaningful.
In the last few years we’ve developed a brand new approach to how we do this, it’s simple and incredibly effective, we call it Revealing Jesus, and its making a massive difference. In the last couple of years we’ve trained up nearly 600 Faith Guides across 400+ churches in England and Wales, collectively we’re seeing over 50,000 young people on a journey of exploring the christen faith and responding to an invitation to become followers of Jesus. We have 24 staff organised into four regional teams, and alongside our local and national partners, we’re playing our part in a network of organisations that seeks to reach children and young people in every context, across every town and city across England and Wales.
