CONTEXT OF THIS ROLE:

At Purposeful, communications is political. It is how we amplify girls’ voices, sharpen feminist narratives, and push back against regressive agendas. The Communications Director will sit at the heart of this work - shaping and delivering a bold communications strategy aligned with Purposeful’s vision, mission, and growth.

This role leads the stewardship of Purposeful’s voice, visual identity, and storytelling practice, ensuring that everything we produce - whether op-eds, reports, campaigns, or digital content - carries our politics with clarity and conviction. The Communications Director will work closely with the Co-CEOs and across all Purposeful teams, including Advocacy, grant-making, Learning & Insights, Programmes, and Resource Mobilisation, to amplify girls’ organising, showcase our impact, and influence the broader philanthropic and activist ecosystem.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role, requiring a deep commitment to feminist movements, an instinct for storytelling as political practice, and a proven track record of positioning organisations on the global stage.

SCOPE OF WORK

1. Communications Strategy & Leadership

• Lead on delivery and implementation of a new communications strategy, building on 2025 planning foundations.

• Work closely with the Co-CEOs and director team to horizon scan and adapt strategy in response to organisational vision and external landscape.

• Provide leadership to a small team of staff and consultants (designers, digital specialists, artists) and work collaboratively with partner communications leads on joint campaigns and initiatives.

• Meticulously manage and forecast the communications and editorial budget, ensuring value for money and strong planning.

• Track and analyse content performance, using insights to refine reach and engagement.

2. Storytelling & Content Development

• Oversee the creation of compelling storytelling content that highlights Purposeful’s impact, amplifies girls’ and young feminists’ voices, and influences funders.

• Lead editorial planning and content workflows, balancing evergreen storytelling with crisis-response or time-sensitive outputs.

• Oversee production and capture of content from live and digital events (webinars, IG Lives, panels, etc.).

• Coordinate brand refresh projects, including a website refresh, and strengthen Purposeful’s digital visibility with a focus on graphic-led content across social platforms.

3. Writing & Editorial Oversight

• Review and edit all external content to ensure quality, editorial standard, and alignment with Purposeful’s voice and values.

• Write op-eds, blogs, social media posts, campaign messaging, press materials, and executive summaries.

• Collaborate with colleagues in Learning & Insights to integrate data into storytelling and publications.

• Edit and manage the production of publications and reports, commissioning artists and graphic designers as needed.

• Provide editorial oversight for media projects, including radio, film, and animation.

4. Media Engagement & Positioning

• Cultivate strong relationships with international, regional, and local media outlets.

• Proactively position Purposeful in global and regional conversations, ensuring girls’ and feminist movements’ voices are at the centre.

• Lead on preparing and supporting spokespersons, including Co-CEOs and external partners, for media engagement.

• Design and execute media strategies for key campaigns, events, and publications.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience & Skills

• Proven experience developing and delivering communications strategies aligned with organisational goals.

• Demonstrated leadership in managing small teams and consultants.

• Strong hands-on skills in digital communication tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe, basic video editing).

• Extensive experience in content planning and editorial workflows.

• Strong published track record (op-eds, blogs, media features) and evidence of positioning organisations in the public spotlight.

• Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience commissioning and managing creative contributors.

• Experience building and maintaining media relationships, particularly in activist and philanthropic contexts.

• Proven experience overseeing websites and digital platforms, using analytics to inform strategy.

• Strong project management and budget forecasting skills.

 Purpose of the job

To drive forward Thames21’s ‘Thames Valley’ (broadly Oxfordshire/ Buckinghamshire/ Berkshire) catchment areas programme in line with our 5-year plan and future strategies ensuring appropriate integration across Thames21 and partner organisations. This includes building and sustaining a team to reduce diffuse pollution, increase biodiversity, improve water quality, and support agricultural businesses to deliver environmental improvement works and nature friendly farming practices.

The postholder requires operational experience and knowledge at catchment scale as well as project and people management experience. They will take a strategic overview of the programme and guide our growth in the thematical and geographical area, with a particular focus on the following outcomes.

• Work with 20 farmers each year to reduce diffuse pollution at source and flood risk.
• Offer advice on nature-based solutions and grant funding to farmers and landowners.
• Plant 30,000 trees annually.
• Input and support the achievement of other applicable 5-year plan targets. i.e. River restoration and catchment scale monitoring.
• Increase Thames21 presence in the Thames Valley, identifying opportunities, supporting, and complimenting the work of other NGOs and regional Rivers Trusts.

The role is a relatively new area of work for Thames21 and may consist of supporting a range of projects and programmes including Catchment Partnerships, Farm Clusters and Natural Flood Management.

Finally, the postholder will take a lead in progressing Thames21’s resilience strategy i.e. working closely with the Fundraising Team, the Catchment Partnership Team, and partner organisations to increase private and public investment to deliver healthy resilient rivers and catchments.

Additional requirements may include supporting other Thames21 projects and funding applications, as the need arises.

 Main Duties and Responsibilities

You will oversee and manage the delivery of diverse projects. You will also develop your team’s scope, strategy and action plan in order to grow the team to deliver 5-year plan targets work closely with expert (e.g. statutory bodies, authorities, NGOs and academics) and non-expert (e.g. community groups and volunteers) stakeholders to develop, fund and deliver projects within the catchments, and oversee their management.  You will also work closely with the Assistant/ Head of Improving Rivers and other members of the Thames21 team to develop funding applications and steer the direction of the catchment areas.

 Tasks include:

 Programme Development & Integration

Develop and expand the Thames Valley catchment programme in line with Thames21’s 5-year strategy, ensuring integration with other teams.

Funding & Financial Management

Secure diverse funding sources and manage project budgets, including financial reporting and cost tracking to meet objectives.

· Project & Risk Management

Lead project delivery, monitor progress, and identify risk mitigation strategies to ensure continued success.

Team Leadership & Staff Development

Manage and support staff through training, appraisals, workload balancing, and adherence to health and safety requirements.

 Stakeholder Engagement

Build and maintain relationships with internal teams, funding bodies, landowners and other external stakeholders.

 Technical & Farm Advisory Support

Provide farm advice, generate reports (including GIS mapping), and maintain a database of visits and environmental opportunities.

Catchment-Based Approach Advocacy

Promote and apply catchment-based principles internally and externally in water and land management.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and broader regulatory requirements across all projects.

Information & Data Management

Maintain accurate documentation and project data systems, supporting transparency and accountability.

Job Description

We are looking to recruit an experienced, inquisitive and motivating manager to provide leadership to a team managing a portfolio of high profile National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) experimental medicine research infrastructure funding schemes. 

Job Purpose
The Programme Lead will provide leadership for the end-to-end grants and research management of NIHR’s experimental medicine research infrastructure portfolio, which includes the flagship Biomedical Research Centres, the Clinical Research Facilities, the Commercial Research Delivery Centres, the HealthTech Research Centres and others. The postholder will lead work to drive the evolution of the experimental medicine portfolio and shape its future direction. In addition, they will play a key role in NIHR’s interaction with the experimental medicine community and will work closely with senior colleagues from the Department of Health and Social Care.

The Programme Lead will report to the Assistant Director of Research Infrastructure, will have responsibility for the activities of a team of Senior Research Managers and Research Managers, and will work closely with the broader Infrastructure team.

Key Accountabilities:

• Lead the delivery and strategic development of the experimental medicine research infrastructure portfolio:

  • Portfolio development: Develop and maintain expert knowledge of the funded portfolio in order to identify gaps or opportunities for greater impact and to build robust cases for new activities.

  • Strategic direction for existing funding schemes: Oversee the delivery of scheme reviews and evaluations for your portfolio to develop recommendations for the next funding calls.

  • Working across the health and care research landscape: Represent the schemes and portfolio in discussions with colleagues from DHSC, NIHR and beyond to ensure synergies are identified and can be capitalised on. Contribute to activities to raise the visibility of the awards within academic, clinical, public and government fora.

  • Commissioning of research: Provide management oversight of the delivery of new funding competitions, development of application guidance notes, the organisation of international panel meetings, the production of minutes and provision of feedback to applicants.

  • Development of new funding calls: Respond to ad hoc requests from DHSC/NIHR to develop and deliver new priority funding calls, mobilising resources to develop an appropriate assessment mechanism and suitable monitoring processes.

  • Contract management and annual reporting: Support the team to process contractual requests/changes required during the  lifetime of an award and requests for information (e.g. Parliamentary Questions, FOI requests or  briefings for ministers). Monitor award progress through an annual reporting process and together with the Assistant Director, sign off on award holder feedback and monitor risk management.

• Team Management and Support: Guide the development of the individuals within your  team to allow them to reach their potential. Co-ordinate and delegate activities within your team and work together with the Assistant Director and Programme Lead for Applied Health Infrastructure to share learning and ensure consistency across the broader infrastructure team.  Support efficient ways of working whilst maintaining attention to detail and delivery to deadlines.

• Stakeholder engagement: Deliver productive relationships with key stakeholders including Infrastructure Centre Directors. Work with the Directors to develop and support the implementation of collaborative working between individual awards and schemes. Oversee the co-production of strategically relevant agenda for Infrastructure Centre Directors’ meetings and other fora to keep NIHR researchers abreast of the latest initiatives and policies. 

• Flexible support to team:  provide a high level of support across the infrastructure team and NIHR, engaging on projects and working groups as required. 

Line Management:

• This post will be responsible for a team of six, with direct line management of three team members. 

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills:

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A PhD degree (or equivalent) in biomedical or health sciences research (or significant equivalent sector experience) 
• Significant relevant experience of managing research funding in a clinical, academic, industrial, funding agency or charity setting 
• Experience of line management, staff development and planning and monitoring of workloads
• Excellent project planning and management skills; able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, working to challenging targets and deadlines
• The ability to demonstrate an understanding in the strategic issues in health and care research funding and policy, especially within experimental medicine
• Strategic thinker able to interpret complex information while having a clear view of the “big picture”
• The ability to employ creative approaches to effectively communicate complex information to individuals and groups from a range of different backgrounds and different seniority levels
• Committed team player with an ability to build effective working relationships

About the role:

At King George’s Hostel, we provide a long-established service where people who have experienced homelessness, trauma and multiple disadvantage can begin to recover, rebuild and move towards independence. As Psychologist/Psychotherapist (PIE Consultant), you will be at the centre of this work, bringing psychological knowledge and practice into a service designed to create safety, trust and opportunity. Clients of the service often face challenges including mental ill-health, substance use, trauma and physical health issues, and you will offer both informal support and accessible, tailored one-to-one and group interventions that address barriers and open pathways to change.

Alongside direct client work, you will support staff to reflect, learn and grow in their practice. This includes facilitating reflective practice, contributing to case discussions, and offering team consultancy that helps colleagues work with compassion and consistency, even in the most complex situations. A key part of the role will also involve creating “spaces of opportunity” with clients and staff through low-threshold, activity-based group work that fosters connection, confidence and a sense of agency.

Your influence will extend beyond individual sessions. By embedding Psychologically Informed Environments across the hostel and wider organisation, you will help shape a culture where psychological thinking informs every aspect of support. As part of Single Homeless Project's (SHP) central PIE team, you will collaborate with other psychologists and psychotherapists, with access to regular line management, clinical supervision, and SHP’s in-house training programme. This is an opportunity to play a vital role in transforming the lives of homeless Londoners, ensuring people have the support, belief and opportunity they need to take steps towards a safer and more independent future.

About you:

• Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its’ equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology OR Psychotherapist with BCP, BPS or UKCP registration or full BACP accreditation.
• Experience of working as a qualified Psychologist or Psychotherapist for a minimum of 4 years including substantial post-qualification experience within the speciality.
• An understanding of complex support needs, including but not limited to mental health issues, Complex trauma, substance use, offending and physical ill health, along with the potential barriers to engagement with services, particularly within an accommodation-based service
• An understanding of psychologically informed environments (PIE) and how service development can be achieved in collaboration with clients, staff team and service management.

About the role

A key leadership position in the UK, responsible for leading a dynamic and talented team who delivers the highest standards of operational support to WaterAiders in country. In this role, you will:

Team Leadership

• Manage, coach and build the capabilities of the People Support Team, their performance and development in line with our values and people promise.
• Expertise and ownership of UK People Team policies, processes and procedures, ensuring that they meet legislative requirements, are fit for purpose and in line with best practice and organisational priorities under the umbrella of our employee value proposition.

Payroll, Pension and Reward

• Accountable for the delivery of the UK monthly payroll and pension processes, providing oversight and support to the work of the in-house Payroll Officer and being a back-up to their role, to ensure payroll is run accurately each month.
• Implement the annual pay award operationally ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of payment to all UK based staff.
• Implementation of a new payroll system for the UK.

Systems and Reporting

• Primary super user in the UK of HR Information System, PeoplePlace, ensuring effective and efficient use of the system. Responsible that the country's employee data is correct and in compliance with data protection.
• Drive the importance of data and people analytics and create a culture of data-based decision-making and insight across the team.
• Ownership of maintaining the monthly UK headcount establishment data with key stakeholders in Finance.
• Annual analysis and statutory reporting of the Pay Gap in the UK.

Compliance and Contract Management

• Act as the UK Team specialist on areas of HR compliance, working with 3rd parties and specialist advisors, to ensure that our policies, processes and practices are compliant and meet legal requirements.
• Responsible for data protection in the People Team, provide senior expertise and build capability across the wider people function.

Other

• Ownership of salary calculations in the event of employee termination and/or redundancy.
• Monthly payroll and pension sign off.
• Budget management and invoice approval.

Requirements

To be successful, you will need:

Functional skills

• Proven experience in leading, managing and developing a high-performing people operations team in a matrix, fast-paced organisation.
• Proven experience in managing and running in-house payroll for at least 250 staff or more.
• Excellent understanding of HR policy development; and proven experience in developing and embedding HR policies, processes and procedures that are fit for purpose.
• A qualified and robust HR Practitioner who has sound and up-to-date knowledge of employment law, tax and legislative requirements affecting a wide spectrum of HR policies and practice, i.e. payroll, pension, reward and benefits, together with their application in the context of the employee experience.
• Working knowledge and experience of HR and Payroll systems, to maximise the functionality and create efficiencies.
• Demonstrate project management capability.
• Proven experience in contract management and managing a wide range of third-party service providers.

The Role

As Fundraising Manager, you’ll play a central role in helping Winning Scotland deliver sustainable growth by identifying and securing new income across trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, statutory and government funding, and public sector contracts.

Working closely with programme leads and the senior leadership team, you’ll research, prioritise, and secure funding opportunities to support the charity’s ambitious growth plans over the next 2–3 years. You’ll also develop strong relationships with funders, write compelling funding applications, and provide excellent stewardship and reporting.

About the role

We are looking for a Programmes Managers to lead the launch and development of our new regional hubs and our programmes designed to reduce the gap in employability within LGBTQIA+ young adults.
