Technical Project Manager – Sports Facilities and Infrastructure

£42,000 - £50,000 per annum dependant on relevant skills and experience.

Location – Home-based with regular travel across a designated region and to our office as required 

We are the Football Foundation - the Premier League, the FA and government’s charity that delivers outstanding grassroots facilities, more and better places to play, transforming lives and communities where it is needed most. 

As a Technical Project Manager, you'll lead the technical delivery of a portfolio of capital sports infrastructure projects, supporting applicants from the earliest design stages through procurement, construction and project completion.

Managing an annual portfolio of projects, you'll work closely with local authorities, football clubs, schools, consultants and contractors to ensure facilities are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest technical standards. You'll also provide expert technical advice to support funding decisions, undertake site inspections, assess construction risks, oversee grant payments and help protect the Foundation's investment.

This is an autonomous, varied role that combines technical expertise with relationship management and project leadership.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone with experience of delivering construction projects from inception through to completion, who enjoys working collaboratively and solving complex technical challenges.

You'll have a degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in a construction-related discipline, together with experience managing construction or capital projects from design through to completion. You'll possess excellent project management and communication skills, along with a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use. Experience of sports facilities, community infrastructure or sustainable construction would be beneficial, but is not essential.

The salary band for this role is £42,000 - £50,000 per annum, dependant on relevant skills and experience.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our Change & Transformation team and lead complex projects that support strategic change across the Royal British Legion.

This is an exciting time to join RBL as we deliver our new 10-year strategy. Our Change & Transformation function plays a key role in helping the organisation prioritise, deliver and embed change that improves how we support the Armed Forces community.

As part of our ongoing transformation, the Change & Transformation function has recently transitioned to a capability-led model built around Change, Delivery and Reporting. Together, these capabilities provide the leadership, governance, delivery expertise, change support and portfolio insight needed to successfully drive and sustain organisational change.  

As a Senior Project Manager, you will take accountability for delivering projects from initiation through to closure, ensuring they are aligned to organisational priorities, governed effectively and deliver measurable outcomes and benefits.

Reporting to the Head of Change Delivery, you will develop and manage delivery plans, budgets, resources and project controls, ensuring risks, issues and dependencies are actively managed throughout the project lifecycle. You will provide clear insight and assurance to sponsors and senior leaders, supporting effective decision-making and project governance.
You will build strong relationships with sponsors, stakeholders, suppliers and delivery teams, confidently navigating complex environments and balancing competing priorities. You will represent projects within governance and executive forums, providing recommendations and constructive challenge where required.

Working collaboratively across Change & Transformation and the wider organisation, you will help ensure successful implementation and benefits realisation, while also contributing to the continuous improvement of project delivery practices and supporting the development of Project Managers and Project Support Officers through coaching and guidance.

About the role

The Project Manager coordinates and delivers Act Build Change's programmes and initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to agreed standards. This hands-on role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across membership programmes, partnership activities, and internal operations.

Working closely with programme leads and stakeholders, you'll provide essential coordination support to keep projects on track whilst maintaining clear documentation and communication throughout project lifecycles. Project planning and coordination

• Manage project lifecycles from initiation through to completion:

What we offer

Salary and benefits

• £30,900-£39,140 salary, depending on experience.
• Permanent contract with option for 4-5 days per week (salary and benefits will be pro-rated).
• Over 30 days of leave, including 25 days of annual leave, one day off for your birthday, one week off in August for learning and rest, plus Christmas close.

• Fully remote working (must be within 4 hours of central London).
