We're the Magistrates' Association – the membership body for England and Wales's magistrates – and we’re here to give magistrates a voice and to support them to be the very best magistrates they can be. Magistrate, our quarterly magazine, is our most popular member benefit. Over the past two years we have developed and refined it, and it is consistently rated very highly by members as a key source of advice, information and inspiration.

The role

We are looking for a new Editor and Content Manager to lead the production of the magazine, help specify and develop a new digital version to run alongside the printed magazine, and to support the wider communications team, especially with content creation and the website.

What you will be doing

You will work closely with members, staff and suppliers to commission, edit and polish articles for the magazine and ensure that every page is top-quality and that it goes out to members on time and on-budget. On any one day in this exciting and varied role, you could be interviewing members for stories and spotlights, writing engaging articles for the magazine or our website, creating new website pages or editing existing ones, or sourcing on-brand images and photos.

The print magazine is very popular, and we now want to develop a winning digital version alongside the printed version, so one of your responsibilities will be to work with colleagues to oversee its digitisation.

You will also be part of our small but dedicated communications team, which is responsible for delivering not only the magazine, but also the MA’s successful media relations, social media posts and engagement, and the majority of our website content.

It’s an exciting role and, because we have a small staff team, you’ll have ample opportunities to work with colleagues and develop your skills.

Role details

Position:  Editor and Content Manager

Responsible to:  Head of Marketing and Communications

Location:  We’re currently working 100% remotely. We are looking for an office site in the south bank/ Vauxhall area of London, so ideally you would be able to work in that area at least one day per week.

Hours:  21 hours per week (part-time). You could work these hours in three full days or spread over four or five days.

Salary: £35,000 per year (pro-rata)

Annual leave:  25 days annual leave (not including bank holidays) – again pro rata’d.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and Implement Security Policies:

Manage Security Operations:

Incident Response and Management:

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

•  Conduct regular risk assessments and vulnerability assessments to identify security risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Training & Development:

• Plan and deliver cybersecurity training and awareness programs for staff, monitoring effectiveness of the program.
• Assist with upskilling the existing IT support team, fostering a culture of security awareness and continuous improvement.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with other departments (e.g., IT, compliance, legal) to ensure cybersecurity measures align with business objectives.
• Communicate security risks and strategies to senior management and stakeholders.

Stay Current with Threats and Trends:

•  Keep up to date with emerging security threats, trends, and technologies to proactively enhance the organisation's security defenses.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

Experience & Certifications/Qualifications:

• Relevant  higher level qualification in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CEH) is preferred.
• Substantial demonstrable years of experience in cybersecurity and demonstrable experience of managing staff and operating at senior management level
• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, technologies, and best practices.
• Experience with security tools such as SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus software, and encryption solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.

 This is a new role at the DEC and developed as a key part of the DEC’s 2024-2029 strategy. The DEC has a wide range of established relationships with trusts and foundations, many of which give 6- and 7-figure sums to DEC appeals. The Trusts & Foundations Manager will be responsible for providing excellent stewardship to our portfolio of trusts and foundations. In addition, the role will also be responsible for cultivating new relationships for the DEC through thorough research, and through the prospect development cycle, to raise money for DEC appeals. In addition to appeal fundraising, the Trusts & Foundations Manager will be responsible for delivering on a new core cost fundraising strategy, in close partnership with the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships.

Demonstrable, transferable trusts and foundations experience and knowledge, (preferably within the humanitarian & charity sector), will hold you in good stead for this exciting new role.

Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Development: Develop and manage the trusts and foundations portfolio and create compelling proposals for future appeals and core costs income. Showcase new ideas and innovative approaches for growing and developing a pipeline of new prospects. Develop engaging stewardship plans.  

Administrative Compliance: Lead and manage, robust and professional grant management, ensuring systems and processes are fit for purpose, streamlined and accessible. The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention, is a newly developed role at the DEC, responsible for shaping and delivering new and existing supporter journeys for DEC individual, community and legacy donors, and leading a programme of improvement across all major contact points between the DEC and the public.

As Exams Assistant you will support the day to day running of the examinations with a particular focus on question bank management. You will be working with the Examinations Team and examiners across all specialties. This will include supporting examiner panels to organise and run question writing sessions and ensuring that question banks remain up to date.

You will also have a number of other examination-related duties, including – but not limited to – processing applications, invigilating at examination and collating examination results.

Philanthropy Manager

Reporting to: Head of Philanthropy in the Fundraising Team 

Location of Work: Home based. The post holder will be expected to travel to meet donors, travel to away days and team meetings in London. The role may involve some irregular travel throughout England and Scotland. Expenses will be paid in line with our Travel and Expenses policy.

JOB PURPOSE 

Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good the Philanthropy team’s role is to develop and deliver the charity's high net worth individual giving programme in line with Magic Breakfast’s strategic priorities to enable our organisational growth against our mission. 

We are seeking to grow income through further cultivation and stewardship of our potential and existing donors. Our High Value Giving teams are forecast to collectively raise £5.1m in 2021/22, up from £4.6m two years ago in 2019/20. The team includes partnerships with charitable trusts and foundations, corporate organisations, and high-net-worth individuals. 

Reporting into the Head of Philanthropy, this role will have a particular focus on ensuring that Magic Breakfast is offering the highest quality of donor care from start to finish, and building and developing our prospect pipeline.

We’re looking for a proactive person with excellent relationship building, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship skills as we seek to build our prospect pool, enhance or supporter journey and achieve our ambitious fundraising targets.

The Philanthropy Manager will have the opportunity to be innovative and creative, to create and test impactful donor journeys and engagement opportunities so Magic Breakfast’s supporters feel valued and can understand the transformational difference they are making to hungry children and their learning in the UK. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

Income generation and donor stewardship and prospect development 

• Manage your own portfolio of donors, providing excellent stewardship and strategies to uplift and secure multi year donations 

• Work with Corporate, Trusts and Individual Giving teams to identify potential major donors and high value regular givers within Magic Breakfast’s donor portfolio and implement plans to develop these relationships; 

• Work with the Head of Philanthropy and Prospect Researcher to build a Philanthropy prospect pipeline 

• Write accurate, inspiring and compelling fundraising propositions and reports for potential and existing major donors 

• Review and make recommendations for improvement of our existing donor journey, building a calendar of engaging content and touchpoints throughout the year. 

• Lead on devising, developing and organising bespoke events for donors and prospects 

• Complete timely event reviews to improve and inform future decision making and planning.

• Work in partnership with the wider fundraising teams to provide excellent supporter care to all event attendees and stakeholders. 

• Support the Head of Philanthropy to build relationships with senior volunteers to garner their support with hosting and supporting events to connect us to, and unlock, their networks. 

• Use our CRM database (Salesforce) to log KPIs, project and reconcile finances and manage supporter relationships 

• Use KPIs to adapt strategies and drive activity 

• Be responsible for ensuring an up-to-date bank of engaging content and materials for existing partners, including but not limited to, commissioning video content, compiling reports and building case studies. 

• Scan the external environment for trends, insights, ideas and best practice that could benefit the High Value Giving teams and Magic Breakfast’s work, making recommendations for improvements and leading on opportunities as they arise.

Internal 

• Work with wider Fundraising team to help create and deliver cross departmental  events, and identify referral opportunities (to Trusts and Corporates) 

• Develop strong relationships with Service Delivery and Policy and Engagement colleagues, involving them in meetings with donors where appropriate to strengthen those relationships and engage them further 

• Work with Service Delivery to identify, plan and co-ordinate school visits for donors and prospects 

Financial processes, reporting and due diligence: 

• Ensure all donations are thanked and recorded in a timely way, and logged accurately on salesforce 

• Support Head of Philanthropy in accurately forecasting philanthropy income for each financial year, and ensure forecast income is updated monthly.

•  to the philanthropy budget and goal with wider awareness of org and F&D goals 

• Work with Prospect Researcher to ensure all due diligence checks on donors are completed, and that they meet our criteria in our ethical fundraising policy, flagging any risks upwards for resolution.

• Contribute to team meetings, sharing best practice and supporting team members where necessary

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Knowledge and Experience 

• Experience planning and managing meaningful donor cultivation and stewardship events to achieve strategic objectives 

• Experience delivering Gala or large special events with proven financial results 

• Experience of managing income and expenditure budgets 

• Experience of working with external event operations crews and contractors

• Experience of management of event and volunteer staff 

• Experience of upward management and working with senior volunteers / Trustees 

• Knowledge of high value fundraising techniques covering corporates, trusts and major donors, including a clear understanding of the needs of the supporter journey

AdviceUK makes a big impact. Its stakeholder, policy and advocacy work is carried across devolved nations as well as the UK. The organisation will be making a significant investment in capacity, new support services and innovation to deliver the support and advice that members, the wider advice sector and their communities need.

The Grant and Programmes Manager will support members and the wider advice sector to access grant funding to sustain their advice services to the benefit of people seeking advice. The post holder will manage grant-funded programmes and nurture positive relationships with funders so their programmes are supportive of the needs of AdviceUK members and the communities they serve.

Key responsibilities

• Project and Programme Management: Oversee the effective delivery of multiple projects and programmes, coordinating staff, partners, and stakeholders, while ensuring compliance with funder requirements and financial reporting.
• Project and Programme Development: Support the Senior Leadership Team to identify funding opportunities and developing funding bids and proposals, including tenders for contracts, ensuring these new projects integrate with AdviceUK’s strategic objectives.
• Data Management and Evaluation: Ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of projects to measure performance, support decision-making, and share insights with stakeholders.
• Funder Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with grant-makers and funders to secure funding opportunities for AdviceUK and its members. Share insights to influence future funding programmes.

The Grant and Programmes Manager will be able to demonstrate at least 2 years’ experience managing multiple time-limited projects and programmes in a similar role. The successful candidate will have experience of setting up and maintaining effective processes to monitor and evaluate projects/programmes so they deliver funder requirements and agreed objectives. You will have experience of working with funders to support the development of their funding strategy and programmes, and building successful bids for project/programme funding. You will have strong knowledge of funding and grant-making processes.

You will have the ability to build strong working relationships with peers, managers, members, partners and funders, with strong analytical, decision-making and organisational skills. You will be able to communicate clearly and concisely to a range of audiences. You will be able to use online reporting tools and CRMs and embrace new technologies and ways of working.
