Finance and Operations Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR

Overseeing Operations at every level of the organisation, with line management responsibility for some of the team, Project and Workstream Coordinators (approximately 5 direct reports) plus some external consultants and contractors.

SALARY & HOURS OF WORK

Part Time – 4 days a week (30 hours)

Salary: Gross £40,000 pro rata £32,000

LOCATION OF THE POST HOLDER 

The post holder will be predominantly remote working but will be required to attend the head office and drop-in in Manchester, drop-in spaces in Glasgow and London, and support staff members nationally. The post involves some travel throughout the UK and some work outside of office hours.  All equipment required for remote working will be provided and costs for travel will be covered.

ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for a Finance and Operations Manager to support the CEO in the day-to-day running of our charity. The NUM CEO develops the overall vision of the organisation, while the Operations Manager is responsible to carry out the vision. 

To be successful in this role, you should have experience as a manager in a position of public trust, have excellent financial, organisational, and communications skills, as well as being a problem-solver with work experience in high-pressure work environments. The Finance and Operations Manager must be versatile in their understanding of the larger vision and as well as the fine details and tactics needed to achieve NUM's goals.

The successful candidate will work in an agile manner to ensure the charity continues to be proactive and innovative, while also being responsive to the changing landscape within the sector and the international sex worker rights and safety movement. As part of supporting the operations of NUM, the successful candidate will provide resources, information and support to NUM Managers and Coordinators across diverse projects, workstreams and teams, to achieve aspects of the organisation’s mandate of 'ending all forms of violence against sex workers' and eliminating the conditions that lead to poverty and survival sex work.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

• At least 3 years' work experience as a Manager, Project or Programme Manager or similar role that requires oversight of a whole system, business, operation or organisation Experience leading remote or hybrid teams is desired. This includes time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, lead team meetings and support members to manage resources, timelines and project budgets, etc. 

• At least two years’ experience in grant writing and fund development, as well as in financial management, with a demonstrated ability to co-develop budgets, cashflow forecasts and financial reporting as well as oversee banking activities and work with accountants and Trustees to ensure NUM’s financial health.

• Knowledge of the charity sector, the day-to-day running of a charity, business or similar organisation, and familiarity with the work of National Ugly Mugs and other sex worker-serving and sex worker-led organisations.

• Excellent leadership and delegation skills and experience. 

• Ability to support and execute on elements of NUM's policies and strategic plan. 

• Experience and training in Safeguarding and the ability to integrate appropriate safeguarding into all aspects of NUM services.

• Exemplary critical thinking and problem-solving skills and experience.

• Excellent IT skills and familiarity with CRM systems, applications and digital platforms and services, particularly Google Workplace, QuickBooks, the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Slack, Trello, and other project management programs and tools.

• Experience in Human Resource Management and monitoring performance across diverse teams. 

• Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to engage in knowledge translation within NUM and with external partners, funders and other stakeholders. 

• A demonstrated ability to be discrete and confidential as part of working on sensitive issues within a diverse staff team, and to be tactful and strategic in challenging social and political climates.

As Head of Impact & Quality, you’ll lead the department that covers impact measurement, evaluation of our programmes, data management, curriculum development, training and quality of tutors and other initiatives that drive the evidence-based culture of Action Tutoring. The Soldiers' and Aviators' Scripture Readers Association (known as SASRA) is one of the longest-established Christian charities supporting the British Armed Forces. Under Royal patronage and working with over 70,000 soldiers, 30,000 RAF personnel and some 10,000 supporters of various types, we look to introduce members of the British Armed Forces to a practical experience of the Christian faith. 

We are now looking for home-based Regional Managers to help us engage with the Christian public across the UK.

The main function of Regional Managers is to bring before the Christian public the work we do taking the gospel of Jesus Christ and bringing a practical experience of the Christian faith to the young people of the British Army and Royal Air Force.

As a Project Coordinator at Mind of the Student, you’ll support the smooth planning and delivery of our mental health programmes in schools and the community. This role is ideal for someone early in their career with transferable experience from roles like sales, business support, education, customer service, or administration who’s now looking for meaningful work.

You’ll coordinate workshops, schedule sessions with schools and partners, manage enquiries, and ensure logistics run smoothly. You’ll also track programme progress, gather feedback, maintain accurate records, and support clear team communication. Strong organisation, attention to detail, and confidence using digital tools (email, spreadsheets, CRM systems) are essential.

Your Role

The Corporate Partnerships & Sponsorship Manager will develop and deliver a strategy to secure, manage, and grow income from corporate supporters and sponsors. The postholder will build strong, mutually beneficial relationships with
businesses across Leeds ensuring companies see clear value in partnering with the charity through sponsorship,  fundraising, and a unique offer of CSR volunteering days at Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm.

Key responsibilities include

Strategy and Planning

• Develop and implement a corporate partnerships and sponsorship strategy aligned to the charity’s overall fundraising plan.
• Identify new corporate and sponsorship prospects, building a healthy pipeline of opportunities.
• Contribute to income forecasts, reporting against agreed targets.

Business Development

• Research, approach and secure new corporate partners and sponsors across a range of sectors.
• Create tailored sponsorship packages for events, programmes and campaigns, ensuring strong return on investment for partners.
• Negotiate partnership and sponsorship agreements that deliver value for both parties.

Relationship Management

• Account manage existing partners and sponsors, ensuring excellent stewardship and high levels of satisfaction.
• Develop creative, engaging partnership activities including staff fundraising and cause-related marketing working with the Marketing Manager, promote payroll giving, volunteering and sponsorship activation.
• Work closely with the Head of Fundraising, CEO, and Trustees to maximise opportunities within their networks.

CSR and Volunteering

• Promote and manage CSR volunteering days at Leeds Children’s Charity, based at Lineham Farm, offering businesses the chance to engage their employees in meaningful, hands-on activities that directly benefit children and the charity.
• Work with delivery teams to ensure CSR days are safe, well-organised and impactful for both participants and the charity.
• Capture and report on the social value and employee engagement benefits of CSR days to strengthen long-term partnerships.

Communications and Promotion

• Work with the Marketing & Communications team to develop compelling partnership and sponsorship materials, case studies.
• Represent the charity at networking events, business forums, and community groups.
• Act as an ambassador for the charity in all corporate engagement.

What we need from you

• Excellent relationship-building and networking skills, with credibility at senior business levels.
• Strong ability to develop and deliver persuasive pitches and proposals.
• Strong project management and organisational skills.
• Knowledge of the Leeds and Yorkshire business community.
• Experience of using CRM systems to manage pipelines and report progress.

The role holder will lead the full range of Shared Assets’ research projects, from scoping and design through to delivery, follow up and evaluation. They will need to have experience of designing and carrying out research and learning activities with a wide range of partners - including academics, community groups, NGOS and local authorities - in collaborative ways. In the past we have worked on research projects of many scales - from large European Union funded consortia, to smaller, one-off pieces which help a local authority or community organisation move forward with their work. Often our research work involves collaborating with a group of other civil society organisations to provide evidence of why change in the land, food and farming system is needed, and generate action on these issues. 

The main areas of work are to: manage and deliver funded research projects (or projects with a research component) with partners, reflect with colleagues on what we are learning within and across workstreams as an organisation and sector, use this knowledge to create new ideas for research work, and support fundraising for these, as part of our ‘infrastructure’ role.

CONTEXT OF THIS ROLE:

At Purposeful, communications is political. It is how we amplify girls’ voices, sharpen feminist narratives, and push back against regressive agendas. The Communications Director will sit at the heart of this work - shaping and delivering a bold communications strategy aligned with Purposeful’s vision, mission, and growth.

This role leads the stewardship of Purposeful’s voice, visual identity, and storytelling practice, ensuring that everything we produce - whether op-eds, reports, campaigns, or digital content - carries our politics with clarity and conviction. The Communications Director will work closely with the Co-CEOs and across all Purposeful teams, including Advocacy, grant-making, Learning & Insights, Programmes, and Resource Mobilisation, to amplify girls’ organising, showcase our impact, and influence the broader philanthropic and activist ecosystem.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role, requiring a deep commitment to feminist movements, an instinct for storytelling as political practice, and a proven track record of positioning organisations on the global stage.

SCOPE OF WORK

1. Communications Strategy & Leadership

• Lead on delivery and implementation of a new communications strategy, building on 2025 planning foundations.

• Work closely with the Co-CEOs and director team to horizon scan and adapt strategy in response to organisational vision and external landscape.

• Provide leadership to a small team of staff and consultants (designers, digital specialists, artists) and work collaboratively with partner communications leads on joint campaigns and initiatives.

• Meticulously manage and forecast the communications and editorial budget, ensuring value for money and strong planning.

• Track and analyse content performance, using insights to refine reach and engagement.

2. Storytelling & Content Development

• Oversee the creation of compelling storytelling content that highlights Purposeful’s impact, amplifies girls’ and young feminists’ voices, and influences funders.

• Lead editorial planning and content workflows, balancing evergreen storytelling with crisis-response or time-sensitive outputs.

• Oversee production and capture of content from live and digital events (webinars, IG Lives, panels, etc.).

• Coordinate brand refresh projects, including a website refresh, and strengthen Purposeful’s digital visibility with a focus on graphic-led content across social platforms.

3. Writing & Editorial Oversight

• Review and edit all external content to ensure quality, editorial standard, and alignment with Purposeful’s voice and values.

• Write op-eds, blogs, social media posts, campaign messaging, press materials, and executive summaries.

• Collaborate with colleagues in Learning & Insights to integrate data into storytelling and publications.

• Edit and manage the production of publications and reports, commissioning artists and graphic designers as needed.

• Provide editorial oversight for media projects, including radio, film, and animation.

4. Media Engagement & Positioning

• Cultivate strong relationships with international, regional, and local media outlets.

• Proactively position Purposeful in global and regional conversations, ensuring girls’ and feminist movements’ voices are at the centre.

• Lead on preparing and supporting spokespersons, including Co-CEOs and external partners, for media engagement.

• Design and execute media strategies for key campaigns, events, and publications.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience & Skills

• Proven experience developing and delivering communications strategies aligned with organisational goals.

Harris Hill is delighted to be working with a leading UK charity to recruit a Digital Fundraising Manager, for a 13-month maternity cover contract, starting in January 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and compassionate organisation. The role is offered as a part-time opportunity (3.5 days p/w), working from home.

Working within a dynamic Community and Events Team, this role will oversee a digital fundraising programme that currently raises over £2.1 million annually. You’ll be responsible for managing a team of three and delivering a busy calendar of digital events, driving innovation and engagement while maintaining world-class supporter experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the strategy and delivery of the charity’s digital fundraising events.
• Manage, motivate and develop a team of digital fundraising staff.
• Build and optimise paid social media campaigns across key platforms.
• Develop and deliver exceptional supporter stewardship programmes.
• Build and manage relationships with agencies, partners and stakeholders.

About You:

You’ll bring proven experience in digital fundraising or similar income-generating digital roles, be a confident project manager, able to oversee multiple campaigns and meet KPIs and have strong experience with paid social media advertising and digital supporter journeys.
