About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Campaigns with a dotted line to the Chief of Staff ensuring effective communications with the Executive Director’s team. This role will lead, grow and maintain Good Law Project’s relationships with a wide network of political stakeholders to support the organisation to develop its political impact and reach.
What we're looking for
- Significant experience of working in the public/government affairs environment, either through government, a political party or within a public affairs role.
- Experience of working with a range of senior stakeholders and working on high profile/politically sensitive and complex issues and campaigns.
- Experience of writing short, sharp briefs for internal (to brief internally) or external (to influence on Good Law Project priorities/issues) audiences.
- Track record of delivering real world change and measurable evidence in positively influencing change in UK Government and/or and the political landscape.
What We Do
-
Good Law Project is a not-for-profit campaign organisation which uses the law to hold power to account, protect the environment and ensure no one is left behind.
-
We had a primary role in overturning the prorogation of Parliament in 2019. We successfully challenged the Government’s operation of a fast track ‘VIP lane’ for awarding lucrative PPE contracts to those with political connections and our campaigning played a key role in the Met Police opening an investigation into Boris Johnson over the Partygate scandal. In July 2023, we forced the Government to accept that its flagship Net Zero strategy is unlawful and to develop a better plan.
-
Our close-knit team of staff work across three core areas: campaigning, legal and operations. We are nimble and reactive to external events which means Good Law Project suits people who thrive in a fast-paced, at times quite pressured environment. You must share our passion for upholding democracy, protecting the environment and ensuring no one is left behind. Our culture is one of openness and innovation which encourages all staff to pitch ideas and influence the organisation’s direction. We are brave, honest and decisive – those are Good Law Project’s values. We recognise the value of our employees, individually and collectively, and are committed to investing in their welfare and development.
-
In August 2022 we established an independent SRA-regulated law firm in London, Good Law Practice, to support and develop our work.

Global Health 50/50 (GH5050) is an independent, evidence-driven initiative to advance action and accountability for gender equality. GH5050 was formed around a unique model which brings together the rigour of academic research, the knowledge of how policy change can occur and the momentum of advocates and communicators to catalyse progress on gender equality. GH5050’s mission is ‘To improve health, well-being, and social justice through the promotion of human rights, particularly in relation to gender equality, by conducting research, disseminating the useful results of such research, and providing information, advice and advocacy.’ Established in 2017, GH5050 is a non-profit organisation (as a UK registered charity) headquartered in Cambridge, UK, that initially focussed on the health sector and is increasingly active in the justice and finance systems, globally and at country level.
Context
Through our flagship annual report and Gender and Health Index, GH5050 provides the only bird’s-eye view of gender, inclusion and equality in the global health sector today. The report assesses 200 organisations annually across a core set of variables on policies and practices to tackle power and privilege imbalances within the workplace, the gender and geography of organisational leadership, and whether gender is considered in any organisations' external-facing programmatic or policy work.
Based on an approach honed over seven years by Global Health 50/50, GH5050 is planning to produce rigorous data on the state of gender equality, including within career opportunities / structures, in the law/justice, and finance/economics sectors. In the law/justice sector we will review approximately 200 organisations at the global level, and then apply a similar approach and methodology at the country level (likely to be Kenya and one other country). Working with research and advocacy partners, supported by an advisory group, legal experts and a team of research consultants, GH5050 also plans to leverage the data to engage with the assessed organisations directly. The work undertaken by GH5050 in the law/justice sector is part of a wider advocacy coalition supported by the funder aiming to drive organisational change for a more diverse, inclusive and equitable global legal sector.
The successful candidate for this post is expected to play an integral role in contributing to the growth of GH5050, as well as taking a leading role in developing, managing, growing and taking ownership for this new area of work.

About us
City Bridge Foundation is a charity set up around 900 years ago for the maintenance of the old London Bridge. Through bridge tolls, rents, bequests and charitable donations, along with sensible investment and management, the fund has grown over the years and now has total assets of around £1.6 billion.
Our primary aim remains to maintain our five bridges – Tower, London, Southwark, Millennium and Blackfriars bridges – but since 1995 we have also used surplus funds to award grants to charitable organisations across Greater London.
We currently award over £30 million to charities across the capital and have made a further £200 million available in the five years to 2026 to support London’s charity sector.
City Bridge Foundation is the working name of the historic Bridge House Estates. From 1995 to September 2023 our charity funding team was known as City Bridge Trust. In September 2023, our bridges and charity funding teams were brought together under a new name – City Bridge Foundation.
Our sole trustee is the City of London Corporation – the governing body for the Square Mile. Members of the Court of Common Council – the City Corporation’s primary decision-making body – form the City Bridge Foundation Board which governs our activities.
