Detention Action is a small organisation with a big impact. Since 1993, we have worked to improve the welfare of people in detention centres and tirelessly campaign alongside our beneficiaries to reduce the use of immigration detention. We work on the frontline with people in immigration detention, as well as challenging injustices in asylum, detention and deportation systems in the UK.

We are looking for a Casework Coordinator to join our organisation. Working as part of the Casework team, our successful candidate will be responsible, both directly and through working with volunteers, for casework and emotional support for people detained under immigration powers.

We’re looking to grow our delivery team with a brand new role that is responsible for processing the referrals we receive for the Settle Programme as well as holding assessment meetings as and when necessary. The successful candidate will also be a Senior Settle Coach holding a reduced caseload and using their frontline skills to work one-to-one with care-experienced young people across London.

For this role, we anticipate that you will spend 50-60% of your time processing and responding to referrals, including taking further steps to assess the needs of the young person who has been referred. To do this you’ll work closely with our Programme Management team, Business Development team and referral partners to ensure that we have all the necessary information to deal safely and appropriately with referrals. As this is a new role to the organisation, there will be scope to shape and influence the way this work is managed alongside your manager and our Chief Operating Officer.

We then anticipate you will spend the remaining 40-50% of your time as a Senior Settle Coach, working on the frontline, delivering one-to-one sessions with care-experienced young people across London. You’ll work closely with our partners to ensure the smooth delivery of our contracts and with the Programme Management team and Senior Partnerships Manager to support reporting on outcomes and regular partnership meetings.

You will report into a manager within the Programme Management team.

Candidates with experience of assessing and managing risk are encouraged to apply. Essential requirements include the ability to hold multiple perspectives alongside each other, ability to approach risk and need from a curious perspective, comfort and ability to escalate concerns as well as strong people skills. The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS) are one of Sport England’s official delivery partners for This Girl Can, leading work on activating the campaign in Birmingham working alongside system partners.

We are looking for a Woman and Girls Lead to deliver the ‘This Girl Can - With You’ project across Birmingham.

The role includes peer relationships internally within TAWS but to also hold relationships with Sport England, place-based strategic partners (Birmingham City Council , Sport Birmingham) and IWG World Conference on Women & Sport attendees In Unity, United by 2022 Legacy Charity and Saheli Hub . With the aspiration of the role aligning to the IWG Women and Sport programme, IWG World Conference on Women & Sport and European Athletic Championships hosted by Birmingham 2026.

In this role of Woman and Girls Lead you will be pivotal in ensuring that the organisation’s contractual obligations and goals are achieved by collaborating with communities and partner organisations in the design and delivery of interventions. You will build connections and co-produce with local communities and key partners , creating activities based on identified need to increase opportunities that are more social, suitable, self-affirming and safe for women and girls. The role will support to connect and share learning across the system and use existing insight to help inform priorities/areas of need.

The role will report to the Midlands Regional Lead for Partnerships and New Business Development and be supported and guided by a Steering Group of wider partners, working closely with TAWS West Midlands Delivery Manager and Research and Performance team.

Kersalake Fellow

For 40 years, NEF has turned big ideas, rigorous research and community power into real-world change. At this critical moment in politics, we’re looking for a talented researcher to join our team.

The late Lord Kerslake was a lifelong advocate for social justice and worked tirelessly in his career and in retirement to promote access to secure, affordable housing for all. At the time of his untimely passing he was Chair of the New Economics Foundation (NEF), the Peabody Trust and the Kerslake Commission on Homelessness and Rough Sleeping hosted by St Mungo’s. These three organisations have come together to honour Bob by creating a Kerslake Fellowship to work on improving outcomes in housing and homelessness, and especially for social housing.

Employed at NEF for a two-year contract initially, this role will help develop policy and practice capable of delivering big shifts in housing policy that will result in genuinely affordable, high quality and secure homes for all. The Kerslake Fellow will produce high-quality research that will help build the evidence base in social housing and homelessness, generate recommendations for actions that will lead to better outcomes, and build relationships with key stakeholders that will help deliver policy change.

We’re looking for someone with a relevant degree (or equivalent experience), a solid understanding of the housing sector and the challenges and opportunities it faces. At least three to five years’ experience in planning, developing and managing multi-stakeholder projects and/​or campaigns. Just as important is the ability to ability to deal with people at all levels, internally and externally, demonstrable organisational and administrative skill and a commitment to building the new, environmentally sustainable economy with redistribution of power and resources at its core.

Background

Lepra is dedicated to addressing leprosy and lymphatic filariasis (LF) and their consequences through direct support, advocacy, and the promotion of inclusive communities. We work in Bangladesh and in India, through our sister organisation, LEPRA Society. We work in partnership with people affected by leprosy and LF to improve detection, ensure access to treatment and care, and promote inclusion and wellbeing. We are in our second year of our Global Strategy for 2024-30, which guides us in our efforts to accelerate progress towards global targets for leprosy and LF, and towards our vision of a world free from leprosy and LF.

Job Context

The Operations Lead will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of Lepra’s UK operations. This includes managing office and facilities logistics, supporting key operational projects (such as the upcoming office move), and coordinating internal processes across HR, IT, governance, and finance systems.

Operational Management

Oversee day-to-day office operations, including facilities, supplies, and logistics.
