JOB PURPOSE
UK for UNHCR (UK4U), the UN Refugee Agency's national charity partner, is looking for a Prospect Research Manager to join its Partnerships and Philanthropy Team (PPH). This role will play a key part in continuing to build our UHNWI, HNWI, Trust and Foundation and Corporate pipelines, by working closely with fundraising colleagues as well as UNHCR internationally.
This role reports to the Head of Philanthropy and manages the Prospect Research Officer. The post holder will identify research, organise and evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to the organisation, operating within the organisation’s due diligence process. The post holder will work closely with senior stakeholders within PPH to help drive each area’s strategy and the overall team objectives.
The role manages UK for UNHCR’s due diligence process from renewing due diligence on existing pipelines, to completing new due diligence profiles utilising key due diligence tools and platforms, working with the PPH team, SMT and UNHCR’s global due diligence team.
Passionate about the refugee cause and UNHCR’s contribution, you will have demonstrable experience of successfully identifying prospects as well as preparing and presenting in depth prospect briefs for across the high value fundraising pipeline from UHNW and HNW individuals, Trusts & Foundations and corporates. You will be familiar with using a variety of information sources, of complying with GDPR and other regulations and working with a CRM database. Donor focussed and a problem solver, you will with have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be someone who enjoys working as part of a team.

Role Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Head of Philanthropy and Senior Stakeholders within PPH, to build upon the overarching strategy for the prospect research function, to deliver a strong and sustainable prospect pipeline
- Using a broad spectrum of sources, identify, research, organise and evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to the organisation. Support fundraising staff in prioritising prospects and building pipelines.
- Lead meetings with senior stakeholders (CEO and Fundraising Heads) to discuss new prospects and the current HNWI portfolio and Corporate pipeline.
- Keep up to date on research and due diligence trends including identifying ways to improve risk research, due diligence and market insight.
- Work within UK4U’s due diligence policy and processes, maintaining a system to enable the organisation to track due diligence carried out, ensuring compliance with all regulatory best practice standards.
- Track and manage prospect research KPIS using power BI.
- Produce in-depth, well-written reports on prospects based on a combination of data from the donor database, open access records and other markers of high-quality donors.
- Managing and coaching an officer level prospect research role, overseeing their work on key projects and developing their skills.
- Embed best practice use of the database within the team, developing tools to analyse and review our prospect pool and how prospects are moved through the pipeline.
- Implement new research techniques as they arise, striving to design a high quality and efficient prospect research methodology.
- Carry regular pipeline reviews to ensure pipelines remain dynamic and fit for purpose.

Personal Attributes and Experience
Essential Experience
- Experience of providing strategically aligned research to help identify and prioritise prospects capable of offering significant financial and/or other support.
- Experience of profiling, network mapping, prospect qualification and other intelligence gathering activities.
- Experience of working with colleagues in Individual Giving as well as with major donor and corporate fundraisers to optimise use of a CRM database to identify potential prospects.
- Experience managing, coaching, motivating and supporting more junior members of the team.
- Experience carrying out due diligence.
- Strong understanding of GDPR and working within GDPR policies.
- Experience of working with senior stakeholders (CEO and Trustees and fundraising board members) to identify key prospects within their networks and offering recommendations on next steps and areas of UNHCR’s work that may be of interest to prospects.
- Experience of working on fundraising databases.

Main responsibilities

Assist the Fundraising Manager with income-generation activity across the organisation.

Our new Memory Café project aims to support dementia patients and their carers by providing a welcoming space for social and recreational activities. The Café will offer dementia friendly activities (including karaoke, bingo, arts/crafts and immersive theatre/dance shows) to empower dementia patients to enjoy regular social, cognitive and physical activities.
Alongside supporting patients, the Memory Café will create a highly supportive environment for carers. This will enable carers to take some 'time out' while remaining nearby in a safe space where both carers and patients can socialize more widely. Furthermore, the Café will provide access to information about relevant local services, ensuring comprehensive support for all attendees.
We are also providing a dementia care-worker who will support the Memory Café manager and enable us to support a broad range of dementia patients and their carers.

About the Role:
You will play an active role in identifying, cultivating, securing, managing and retaining donors, and soliciting major gifts, with the full support of the Executive Leadership Team and Chair of Trustees.
Here's a summary of your key responsibilities:
- Prospect and cultivate new individual supporters to donate 5 figure gifts using a variety of tactics, such as attending in person networking events, gaining introductions from our Development Board, Trustees and other senior supporters
- Personally manage a prospect pool of individuals to steward and re-engage to donate 5 figure gifts
- Maximise the partnership opportunities with the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
- Develop written materials and proposals to engage prospective individual donors and report on the impact of their donations
- Develop stewardship and cultivation activities (e.g. webinars/ drinks receptions for mid-level donors)
- Use the support of senior leadership and members of the Board of Trustees to cultivate prospects as needed
- Work with colleagues to identify and scope new high value partnership prospects and application opportunities
- With the support of the Head of Development, develop and implement the donor giving strategy
- Report against income, expenditure and other targets
- Keep MQ’s central database up to date with all prospect actions
About You:
This role is for you if you are self-motivated and an experienced relationship fundraiser and driven to ensure that targets are hit and projects are delivered to the highest possible standards.
You will have demonstrable experience of managing 4 and 5-figure+ gifts from donors and be a sophisticated communicator with the confidence to build relationships with and inspire colleagues and donors.

- Previous major donor fundraising experience
- Exceptional communication skills particularly in understanding and translating complex information and turning it into compelling written proposals

Desirable Skills:

You will have leadership experience in a VAWG or other service delivery organisation which includes management of different service elements. You will be comfortable with managing risk and a calm, reflective operational leader able to support staff who are often working in crisis response mode. You will have good data literacy and eye for detail, particularly around service utilisation and reporting.

About the role
This role is a newly created position working within the Youth Access to Immigration Representation and Advice (YAIRA) project providing immigration and asylum support to young people who are in care or are care leavers. The YAIRA Project was set up by Coram CLC and 4 local authorities – Enfield, Islington, Barnet and Camden - to increase access to representation and advice for children in care and leaving care.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a keen interest in upholding the rights of vulnerable children and young people with experience of the care system who is seeking to progress their legal aid career in the charity sector. You will be expected to provide high quality legal advice, assistance and representation to these clients through legal aid casework.

When not working on the YAIRA project, the postholder may be asked to provide paralegal casework support to the wider immigration and asylum team.

- Work closely with BSR’s Senior Management Team to devise and deliver priorities for the portfolio, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and identifying opportunities to maximise impact
- Ensure that BSR’s decision making is informed by the best available and appropriate level of evidence by communicating strategic insights across the organisation
- Lead, coach and support team members and manage overall team capacity and resource planning
- Oversee contract and budget management for the team and across individual projects, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources

- Policy, research and strategy
- Lead BSR’s policy agenda, supporting the Policy Manager to deliver policy analysis and development, produce high quality outputs and influence changes in policy and practice
- Oversee a programme of proactive research, including data analysis and member engagement, to build a robust body of evidence and intelligence about the key issues impacting BSR members and rheumatology care across the UK
- Ensure that evidence, insight and analysis effectively informs BSR’s policy work, strategic planning and operational decision making
- Continuously monitor UK-wide policy and practice changes and assess their impact on the rheumatology community and patient care
- Ensure BSR’s members and senior leaders receive timely analysis of key policy and practice developments impacting rheumatology
- Develop, lead and support cross-team workstreams and projects that deliver on organisation-wide priorities.
- Best practice and quality improvement
- Provide leadership to the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit (NEIAA) team, supporting the team to deliver work to a high standard
- Engage members to develop BSR’s evidence base on good practice and quality improvement, and keep abreast of relevant external developments
- Provide expertise to colleagues on best practice and quality improvement, ensuring that insight and ambitions are effectively communicated and inform BSR’s policy work, strategic planning and operational decision making
- Identify and develop opportunities to share and promote best practice and quality improvement to members and external audiences, achieving maximum possible reach and impact
- Identify and develop opportunities to work with partners across health and social care to promote and support best practice and quality improvement.
Person Specification
- Significant experience in a senior policy, practice or programme management role in healthcare
- Extensive knowledge of health policy and/or healthcare systems and how policy is developed and implemented
- Understanding of research methods, with the ability to analyse and translate quantitative and qualitative research findings
- Understanding of audit and/or QI methodology and experience of delivering or supporting quality improvement initiatives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on evidence-based decision making
- Leadership and team management experience and ability to coach staff to reach their potential
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and influence relationships, including at partnership level, with colleagues and senior leaders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues to a wide range of stakeholders and prepare high
quality, accessible outputs - Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure to conflicting deadlines
- Flexible in response to changes in the external environment and the need to balance proactive and reactive work
