Job Title:  Training Lead: Parents and Volunteers

Hours:         2.5 days a week 

Salary:    £32,000 for Cardiff Based/£34,000 for London Based

Reports to:     Head of Services

Location:        Cardiff or London (Brockley SE4)

We are seeking a motivated, compassionate and engaging training lead for our parent and volunteer training programs. The training lead for parents and volunteers will lead on the design, development and delivery of a program of training support for parents impacted by Child Sexual Abuse and will support with the delivery of the training for new We Stand volunteers.

Role Description 

To plan, develop and deliver parent training and workshops for protective parents and carers whose

children have been sexually abused; to support parents and carers to understand and process the impacts of child sexual abuse and learn strategies for supporting their children after abuse together with those who share similar experiences. To work collaboratively with We Stand colleagues, to provide support that is accessible, appropriate, timely and tailored to suit the needs of individual clients.

To contribute to the recruitment and selection of We Stand volunteers including student therapists on placement and helpline volunteers. To lead on the delivery of induction and training for all new volunteers and ensure that they are adequately prepared and supported to begin their placement with We Stand.

Parent Training: 

Parent training and workshops are designed to support parents following a disclosure of CSA. The training focuses on providing parents and carers with the useful information and strategies they need to manage and support their child or young person’s journey of recovery. Via 1:1 or group sessions, parents gain the knowledge they need to help them support their child and regain confidence in themselves.

Key Responsibilities

Design and development of content 

• Setting up an annual program of training and workshop delivery for parents and carers

• Ongoing review and development of content to ensure the program is up to date and tailored to the needs of clients

Managing referrals and Assessment of clients 

• Working collaboratively with We Stand colleagues to promote training and workshops to relevant parents and carers

• Managing referrals to training and workshops and assessing the suitability of clients for the program

• Be a point of contact for parents and carers on the waiting list for training and workshops

Delivery of group and individual training 

• Deliver We Stand’s 4-week training programme for parents and carers

• Be a point of contact and support for parents during and immediately after their involvement in the program

• Where appropriate, deliver 1:1 training slots to parents and carers who require this additional support due to e.g. those with additional needs, high levels of anxiety or a particularly complex situation (including sibling abuse)

• Keep accurate and appropriate records for every parent/ carer attending training and workshops

Monitoring and Evaluation 

• Ensure that robust monitoring and evaluation processes are in place to capture the experience of all parents and carers attending training and workshops

• Analyse evaluation data against programme aims and objectives to ensure outcomes are being met and to inform service developments

• Take responsibility for continuous improvement of processes to support the effective delivery of training and workshops for parents and carers

• Contribute towards reports for funders, and the We Stand Board of Trustees 

• Contribute to relevant fundraising applications, as required

Volunteer Training 

We Stand relies on a team of dedicated and skilled volunteers to help us deliver life-changing support to families impacted by child sexual abuse. We are committed to ensuring all volunteers have the information, resources and support they need to carry out their role effectively and have a positive experience during their time with the organisation. This includes via a comprehensive training and induction programme and ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment and selection

• Contribute to the recruitment and selection of new volunteers following a best practice volunteer recruitment process

Induction training programme 

• Oversee and coordinate an annual program of induction training for new and existing volunteers

• Lead on the delivery  of a 4-week programme to induct new volunteers

• Assist with the review and development of content to ensure the program is up to date and tailored to the needs of volunteers

Monitoring and Evaluation 

• Ensure that robust monitoring and evaluation processes are in place to capture the experience of all volunteers attending induction training

• Analyse evaluation data against programme aims and objectives to ensure outcomes are being met and to inform training developments

Other duties: 

• Attend regular clinical supervision, supported by We Stand

• Attend regular We Stand staff and team meetings

About The Access Project

We support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university. Our volunteers are trained and supported to be effective tutors who work with our students for an hour a week to raise their grades. In addition, a dedicated school-based staff member mentors the students so they have the knowledge and support to make strong university applications. Our results show this approach works.

About the role

This role is available at an important time for The Access Project as we expand our mission, seek to pilot a new programme model, and move into new school contexts. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the skills for programme improvement, a strong interest in research, and a deep passion for our mission to support students to place and succeed at selective universities.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is comfortable working across teams to make change. You’ll be the lead and expert on The Access Project’s in-school university readiness work with responsibility for designing and quality assuring the provision, supporting the learning and development for our school-based staff to effectively deliver the programme content. This position is integral to ensuring The Access Project is delivering a high-quality programme that supports the needs of our students and drives the outcomes of the programme across all regions and schools. The postholder will also be responsible for amplifying The Access Project’s voice in the sector and responding to policy updates; with a focus on bringing their knowledge of the Higher Education sector and the experiences of our students to decisions about the direction of our own programme. They will also support further development of our programme-level Diversity and Inclusion work, to ensure that the programme is tailored where feasible to the needs of all students.

Duties and responsibilities

1) Design & Development

• Act as a senior collaborator to the annual programme design process. Work with the Head of Process Improvement & Programme Quality to incorporate University Access Officer, Programme Leadership, school, and student feedback on how best to drive our short term and long-term outcomes across our programmes.
• Project manage the implementation of changes driven out of programme design. This includes the creation of or changes to delivery resources and training materials, as well as to our university readiness framework and the Salesforce system that supports delivery.
• Work with Programme Managers to understand their delivery challenges, develop solutions and answer questions around university admissions, widening access and The Access Project’s own University Readiness Programme.
• Act as a senior contributor to the development of The Access Project’s programmatic Diversity and Inclusion work, working closely with the University Access Officer D&I Lead. This includes strong engagement with the D&I working group and designing and implementing systems and support to better serve our students with inclusion needs.
   

2) Research and Policy

• remain critically engaged with the widening participation/social mobility sector, and able to synthesise key changes/challenges and ensure that they are applicable/actionable by the organisation.
• Ensure that any relevant widening participation sector developments and trends are fed into The Access Project’s way of working. For example, this might be changes to resources for the programme or working with colleagues to communicate with students (e.g. on plans for A Level Results Day).
• To be an ambassador of The Access Project’s work and impact externally in the widening participation sector, including speaking at conferences, writing articles on our work, and engaging in external relations.
• Holding responsibility for The Access Project’s policy and research workstream, including contributing to the strategic direction of this work and undertaking research to drive the delivery of this workstream to promote The Access Project’s voice in the widening participation sector.
• Liaising closely with the Communications team to ensure that The Access Project’s responses to sector information and updates are timely and relevant to our Mission.
• Provide nuanced insight about the widening participation/Higher Education sector, with a clear take / coherent view on the landscape and how it’s changing, which would then enable us to make informed choices about our programme.

3) Quality Assurance

• Take responsibility for the operational implementation of the university readiness strand of the quality assurance strategy, to drive the quality of the activities The Access Project delivers to young people in schools.
• Participate in The Access Project’s quality assurance processes, including performing drop-ins on University Access Officers’ programme delivery, and coordinating with other members of the team to perform drop-ins in an efficient and effective manner.
• Embed learning from The Access Project’s quality assurance process into our standard practice. This will include delivering training and development sessions for University Access Officers, updates to resources and guidance for what best practice looks like.
• Contribute research on wider pedagogical best practice into our quality assurance work to ensure the highest quality in our delivery of educational programmes.

4) Student Voice

• Maximising student voice within programme design through the organisation and facilitation of student Delivery Review Meetings.
• Lead the development and administration of The Access Project’s annual student survey, considering the needs of key stakeholders across the organisation.
• Hold and contribute to The Access Project’s overarching Student Voice strategy.
• Continue to drive improvements in The Access Project’s student voice work through research and engagement with sector leaders.

Additional Information

Requirement to be in the office at least once a week and to be available to support meetings and events in London when required. We have a grand opportunity for someone looking to grow their charity experience - As our Fundraising Officer, you'll generate income by creating exceptional written applications and reports. To do this, you'll dive into research, keeping tabs on all fundraising opportunities, as well as crafting strong grant proposals, which is a key aspect of this role. You'll also need to bring in new corporate supporters by building new relationships/sponsorships as well as maintaining existing ones.

The Survivors Trust is a UK-wide membership organisation for specialist voluntary sector rape and sexual abuse support services.   Our vision is for a society where services for survivors are trauma-informed and accessible according to need.  Survivors and their partners, parents, families and supporters have a right to support and justice can access the right service for them at the right time, free of charge, and according to need.

We have over 120 member organisations in the UK and Ireland providing counselling, emotional support and advocacy for women, men, young people and children who have been affected by rape or sexual abuse/exploitation at any time in their lives.

We support our member agencies by providing a wide range of infrastructure support including regional meetings, networking events, specialist forums and workshops and representing our member agencies in national meetings.  We provide accredited training for Independent Sexual Violence Advisors and bespoke training and workshops for professionals and organisations.  We run a national helpline for anyone who has been affected by sexual violence in any way.

We’re looking for a Fundraising Officer to join our small and friendly team at our head office in Rugby, working with our Income Generation Manager to ensure our income meets the increasing demands for our services.

You will lead on developing and supporting trust, grant, commissioned and community fundraising activities, including researching fundraising opportunities and writing grant applications, working in collaboration with the Income Generation Manager.  Supporting our amazing community fundraisers is an important element of the role, providing fundraising newsletters, updates and maintaining our fundraising webpages.

You will ideally have previous experience of working in the voluntary sector and experience of developing funding applications and building relationships with donors and fundraisers, but please don’t be put off applying if you don’t meet all these requirements.  The right candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively in a friendly and professional manner, with excellent IT skills. 

You will be required to undergo DBS clearance to work at The Survivors Trust.

About the role

• Job Title: Justice Programme Manager

Headway is seeking a new Justice Programme Manager who will expand the current services to have a greater impact on police and probation services, improving knowledge and understanding and the support offenders with brain injuries receive.
We want someone who can both oversee the existing projects, such as our brain injury ID cards, whilst expanding the services in line with our new strategy, due to launch in the summer of 2024.

What will you do:

• Develop and implement a strategy for Headway’s work within the criminal justice system.
• Work with and develop key relationships across, police, probation services to improve knowledge and systems for offenders with brain injuries.
• Develop new justice related projects, including working with Headway’s fundraising team, to generate new income to expand the services.
• Work with the network of local Headway charities, to expand their work, within the justice system.
• Manage and deliver Headway’s justice related training initiatives.
• Oversee the successful delivery of Headway UK’s Brain Injury ID Card, including the line management of the project lead.

ROLE PURPOSE

This position involves identifying and prioritising potential donors capable of making significant contributions to help us deliver a range of projects aimed at enhancing the student experience and supporting the local community. By providing the Development and Fundraising Team with tailored and insightful research, this role will enhance the prospect funding pipeline and facilitate the cultivation of a diverse pools of donors, including individuals, grant-making trusts, and companies. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
