We're looking for someone with experience of verging or similar church support work. Good social skills are essential as is the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own inititiave. The ability to work closely with and relate well to all Cathedral staff, ministry team, congregation, volunteers, visitors, and members of the general public will also be required.
The two Assistant Vergers and Precinct Officers (AVPOs) carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of the Head Verger and Precinct Manager. Work includes: the careful setting up and delivery of all liturgical matters; ensuring a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all working in, visiting, or using the Cathedral and Cathedral House and precinct and ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the Cathedral for all.
Essential experience and skills
- Sympathy with the Christian faith.
- At least one year’s experience as a church or cathedral verger or in a similar role.
- A flexible attitude and willingness to take on a range of duties including practical ‘hands- on’ work.
- Attention to detail and an ability to assess priorities including when under pressure.
- Understanding of liturgy or willingness to learn.
- Ability to be a good team player and work collaboratively with Ministry Team, staff and volunteers.
- Willing to work alone.
- Good administrative and IT skills.
- Good understanding of the importance of security, maintenance and health and safety.
- Good social and communication skills.
- Have an open and welcoming attitude to all including volunteers and members of the general public.
- A trained First Aider (or willing to be trained upon appointment to an appropriate level).·
- Ability to work flexibly over seven days and evenings including holiday periods.
Desirable experience
- A communicant member of the Church of England.
- Previous experience in a liturgical capacity.

Provide reception and general office support for our busy team
- Be the first point of contact for members of the public contacting Glass Door, answering the phones and logging all calls; dealing with incoming enquiries by telephone, email, website feedback or voicemail; passing on queries to colleagues as appropriate.

Nacro have launched the Community Support Service - Tier 2 (CAS-2) which is a national service commissioned by Ministry of Justice to provide accommodation as an alternative to custody.
Role Profile
This role is based within our team in the East of England. As a Support Worker, you will provide exceptional housing support services and housing management services to a diverse range of service user including those on Bail, prison leavers, and those going through the criminal justice system. The Team provides flexible and holistic support to residents with a wide range of support needs. We aim to support them to find and keep a stable home at the end of their CAS-2 placement. You will manage a caseload of clients in properties in your allocated patch. This role provides an excellent springboard into other criminal justice professions and housing roles.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver effective support and safety plans with the service user referring to specialist agencies as required.
- Ensure that properties are always adequately equipped, maintained, furnished, and cleaned.
- Support residents to understand responsibilities that will help them keep their CAS-2 and future accommodation.
- Empower and motivate service users to identify and achieve desired outcomes.
- Develop a move-on plan with service users at the earliest opportunity, identifying realistic options for their future home.

Supported Housing Officer

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has experience of working in the social housing sector and would like a new challenge. You should have Knowledge of Housing Law in relation to housing management and understand Welfare Benefits, especially Housing Benefit and the current climate of how supported housing is funded via Housing Benefit and the scrutiny around evidence of the support offer.
You will be the main lead for housing management in your patch. Experience of managing income recovery, neighbour nuisance/conflict and estate management is essential, ideally this has been within a supported housing context.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Income Recovery
- Monitoring of all Nacro rent accounts both current and former arrears and credit accounts in patch.
- Taking direct action where arrears are accruing in line with Nacro’s Income Collection and Debt Management Policy and liaising with Support or Housing Management Worker when their support is needed.
- Engaging with HB to ensure correct levels of HB are in payment for the right dates and at the correct level, liaising with Nacro Welfare Benefit Advisor for any complex cases.
Legal Duties
- Preparing documentation, including notices, witness statements and court documents for any enforcement or to end a tenancy.
- Representing Nacro at court.
Income recovery you will be responsible for recovery of accommodation charges from beginning to the end of the process.
Tenancy Support
- You will ensure the Association’s conditions of tenancy and licences are enforced.
- You will provide training and induction support to new starters, so they understand their role around housing management and tenancy creation including dual visits to provide additional training where issues are highlighted, or new staff need it.
- Supporting and advising on less complex anti-social behaviour to promote prevention and early intervention, and the correct recording and monitoring of cases.
Estate Management/Property Standards
- Though the Occupancy Sustainment Programme (or similar) deliver training to local teams’ duties on property standards including documentation and recording in systems, to include reporting a repair, completing monthly fire and health and safety checks and support they need to provide around gas compliance.
Support the team through training to help workers know how to access our policies and procedures around property standards including knowing how to report and escalate issues.
A full driving license and access to a car for business use is essential for this role.
