The role
This is a time of unprecedented demand for our services. We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us as a Benefits Adviser on either a full or part time basis. Job Share applications are also welcome. Full time hours are 37 hours per week.
We’re looking for an experienced and knowledgeable professional to help us deliver our work programme and build our profile amongst regional stakeholders. The post-holder will deliver projects that seek to bring an end to fuel poverty and to the misery of cold homes that is experienced by over 6.5 million households in the UK.
This is a highly rewarding role where knowledge and experience are key. You will provide accurate, comprehensive benefit entitlement advice and support to householders, ensuring they receive the help they need. From initial consultation to form completion, you will be responsible for offering guidance across multiple channels – by phone, online and in person.
National Energy Advice’s Benefits Entitlements and Claims Support Officers are empathetic, polite and have good listening skills but are also knowledgeable, assertive, and confident. You will obtain relevant information about a client’s circumstances and offer accurate guidance about potential eligibility for additional benefit entitlements. This will include the completion of application forms as appropriate. Advice will be given over the phone, via online contact and in face-to-face settings where appropriate.
What you will need to succeed
National Energy Action is seeking skilled and experienced individuals to join our team in a pivotal role supporting low income and vulnerable households.
You will have a strong background in providing welfare benefits advice and expert advice on welfare rights, including entitlements, systems, claim processes and current legislation and practices; all tailored to individual client circumstances. You will have demonstrable experience of providing welfare benefits advice via telephone and face to face is essential.
You will need good organisational skills, excellent communication skills as well as an understanding of the challenges faced by low income, vulnerable or disadvantaged householders.
The role of Benefits Adviser will be part of the Communities Directorate and the postholder will report to the Benefits Entitlement and Claim Support Manager.
Post holders must be resident within the UK and be able to provide their Right to Work in the UK. Hybrid working is subject to a risk assessment to ensure the working environment is appropriate under health and safety and GDPR requirements.

We are offering:

About The Role:
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will share collective responsibility for managing Wandsworth Carers’ Centre (WCC) services and delivering its strategic goals.
You will be directly responsible for the management of frontline support staff (currently 3 in number) and for the volunteers aligned to those staff members/services. You will provide advocacy, referral and ongoing practical and emotional support to Carers through individual and group work as required, facilitating the monthly Male Carers peer support group and overseeing the volunteer led Male Carers Social group.
You will work collaboratively with other local agencies delivering training and undertaking outreach and in developing and maintaining partnerships and referral pathways that support Carers’ health and wellbeing.
You will share responsibility for improving, developing and growing the services to ensure that they continue to effectively meet changing needs. This will include generating new ideas for services and projects and writing fundraising applications.

The role
Sustrans is the UK’s leading active travel organisation, working to make it possible for people across society to walk, wheel and cycle. We have a new strategy for the next five years, a key strand of which is to unlock active travel in new housing developments, and we are recruiting a Head of New Developments to lead this work.
This is a new position in which you will draw on your experience in the housing delivery sector to grow Sustrans’ contribution to the creation of new communities that have active mobility at their heart. As well as leading our influencing work aimed at organisations in housing delivery, you will develop and promote an offer to partners, drawing on Sustrans’ existing infrastructure, behaviour change and advisory services. You will connect with, inform and inspire professionals and decision makers involved in delivering new homes to adopt the actions required to increase active travel in their developments. Through collaboration with our Commercial team and subject experts across Sustrans, you will develop a pipeline of funded work from public, private and third sector organisations, ultimately enabling more households to walk, wheel or cycle for their day-to-day journeys.
The role can be based in any Sustrans office and will involve frequent in-person meetings and site visits, particularly (but not exclusively) in the Midlands and South of England.
About you
You’ll have significant experience contributing to the delivery of new developments through work for or with organisations such as developers, housing providers, consultancies, local authorities or government. We’re looking for applicants with a professional network in housing delivery, and significant experience securing new commissions from and/or influencing organisations involved in delivering new developments. You’ll have a strong understanding of the development process, including the spatial planning system, and of the roles of the parties involved in delivering new developments, the power dynamics between them, and the opportunities and appetite each has for taking action to increase active travel. Naturally, you’ll have deep knowledge of the challenges, opportunities and hot topics in housing delivery – for new towns, urban extensions and urban intensification schemes.
You’ll have exceptional external-facing leadership skills, and be a strategic, creative thinker, able to solve problems and convert new ideas into practical actions. Your outstanding communication skills will enable you to engage with stakeholders at a senior level, including on contentious subjects and on high-profile projects. You’ll have strong business acumen to secure new commissions and deliver effectively for clients, and the skills to influence decision-makers.

You’ll work as a key member of our friendly, experienced and enthusiastic communications and fundraising team. We're a small, hard-working team with big ambitions, but we still make the time to support each other. You’ll be line-managed by me (Digital Communications Officer), and work alongside our Communications Manager Dave and Marketing and Communications Officer Harriet. You’ll be supported by our Fundraising and Communications Director, a supportive SLT and board of trustees, and work alongside six fantastic fundraising colleagues. This position is new for the charity, so there is lots of scope for you to carve out the role and make it your own. Recently kicking off our new ‘Creating Positive Change Together’ strategy, coproduced by over 130 staff, volunteers, clients and partners, Groundswell has ambitious plans around influencing more change and amplifying voices to promote healthier lives and a better future for anyone who has experienced homelessness. This role directly aligns with these strategic plans, to refine and use innovative participatory research centring lived experience, share and amplify insight from people with experience of homelessness, and increase our campaigning activities to change systems and break down the barriers that stand in people’s way to a healthier life and more hopeful future.
This role has been created on an interim basis to assess its impact and effectiveness, with a key focus on reviewing the priorities, progression and support of our Research Team and making recommendations for the future regarding this new role. The Head of Audiences is a new leadership role in the Commercial Operations team designed to ensure that audience insight and segmentation are at the heart of everything we do. The RSPCA Buckinghamshire South Branch
The RSPCA Buckinghamshire South Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.
The main activity of our branch is specialised in the rehoming of small animals including cats, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs and hamsters. The animals come into our care from various sources such as those which are rescued, abandoned, neglected or given up by their owners. Each animal is medically and characteristically assessed to ensure it is fit and well before being available for rehoming. This all costs money, and could not be achieved without your support.
Job Summary
This role is responsible for the development, implementation and operation of appropriate financial and business management tools to support the day-to-day business and financial administration of the Branch.
Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Executive Office (CEO), you will be expected to make use of the full capability of the Branch’s existing software systems (Google Workspace, and Quick Books) to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery and develop management information to aid the Trustees & CEO in decision making.
You will be responsible for all financial management across the charity. This includes bookkeeping; financial statements; financial planning; financial policies, processes and controls and budgeting.
You must ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with current legislation, Branch and Society policy, relevant Health & Safety regulations and any associated statutory or legislative requirements.
Note: Branch targets and budgets are agreed on an annual basis and these will inform the personal targets agreed at the annual performance review. Progress towards personal targets will be reviewed at regular one-to-one meetings with your line manager.
This role is home based, with occasional travel across South Bucks.
Principal Accountabilities
Financial Management & Operations

Support the CEO as a key strategic and operational partner, acting as second-in-command and deputising in their absence where appropriate.

Responsible for day-to-day financial administrative support for the CEO and Trustees.

Ensure that all administrative paperwork, including external correspondence is processed in accordance with Branch and Society procedures, including completion of all appropriate records for insurance and risk management purposes.

Ensure financial data processing, retention and destruction conforms to the relevant policies such as GDPR.

Ensure regulatory and legislative compliance of financial charity policies.

Work closely with relevant operational staff to ensure appropriate responses are issued to all enquiries whether from members, supporters & volunteers, RSPCA colleagues or the general public.

Liaise with staff and volunteers to facilitate the ordering of materials, supplies and equipment for the effective operation of the Branch, ensuring budgetary controls are maintained at all times.

Work with the CEO and other staff to manage relevant licences, vendor relationships, service agreements and invoicing.

Work with staff and volunteers across the whole charity on financial processes and controls.
Fundraising & Donations

Identify, assess, and apply for appropriate grants and funding streams to maximise income for the branch, ensuring applications are timely, well-prepared, and aligned with funder criteria to support the branch’s strategic and operational objectives.

Ensure that all donations (financial or otherwise) are acknowledged in a timely manner, receipts are issued for financial donations and the banking of all funds raised.

Responsible for the accurate recording and banking of the funds raised.

Develop, and manage relationships across relevant stakeholder groups, both within and outside the charity.
Gift Aid

Ownership of the Gift Aid process.
General

Attend meetings and training courses as required.

Undertake such other duties as directed from time-to-time by your line manager.
Essential skills, qualifications and experience:

A finance qualification or working towards level 3 AAT or ACCA with proven experience in charity financial operations.

Good general level of education.
-
Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting and compliance.

Demonstrable experience of managing small to medium size budgets (circa £400,000) & accounting systems (ideally with experience of Quick Books software).

Proven experience of cash handling and financial management procedures.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Proven ability to work to tight deadlines, be proactive and work autonomously.

Proven IT literacy including use of business software and accounting packages (including Quickbooks), and Google Workspace.

Strong numeracy and analytical skills.

Experience supporting audits and implementing robust financial controls.

Knowledge of Charity and Company Law.

Proven ability to work under direction from superiors but equally able to use their own initiative.

Proven ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.

Proven ability to complete essential management paperwork and analyse data.
