Through the appointment of a Strategic Programme Director (SPD), we have been given an opportunity to bring a step change in our mission and ministry across the Diocese of Coventry. The Strategic Programme Director will be responsible for contributing to and supporting the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team and key lay and ordained leaders in the delivery of the diocesan strategy. The role will ensure that the programmes, projects and workstreams within the plan are delivered on time, within scope and budget. The Programme Director will provide oversight of the strategic plan from inception of ideas through implementation to delivery of projects. Working collaboratively across the Diocese, the role will also ensure that key outcomes are well-defined, appropriately prioritised, delivered to plan and within budget. The role will include shaping and scoping the request for partnership/external funding.
Programme Development & Planning
- In the first year: To prioritise the clear articulation of a diocesan wide vision and direction of travel through working closely with the Bishop and the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team building on the work achieved in recent years.
- Work with key stakeholders to develop strategic initiatives aligned with the diocesan vision and strategy
- Ensure strategic proposals have clarity and viability
- Ensure effective communication with clarity, consistency and transparency
- Work with senior leaders to prioritise outline proposals
- Work with senior leaders to develop change proposals including detailed outcomes and the process by which those outcomes will be achieved
- Regularly assess the viability of development proposals
- Work with partnership funding bodies, including the C of E Vision and Strategy Team, to submit funding proposals and assure the quality of applications for any partnership funding
- Represent the Diocese in discussions with partnership funders
- Work with senior leaders to make the best use of central resources to support change
Programme Management
- Facilitate the launch of partnership-funded strategic projects, ensuring they are appropriately planned, resourced, measured and managed.
- Establish appropriate programme governance, including risk management, change management, regular reporting, and budget management
- Work with the communications team to ensure consistent and effective messaging
- Establish review and support processes to ensure projects are delivered successfully
- Ensure intervention processes are developed to pause, or if necessary, terminate projects that have demonstrated they will not deliver
- Capture and publish lessons learned, and support research studies
- Build consistent protocols for all significant strategic development initiatives
- Track progress against a detailed project plan, deliverables, outcomes and measures
- Manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs, escalating to BSIG as required
- Provide support for operational aspects of projects in liaison with diocesan colleagues
- Ensure project leads/managers regularly complete a quality project highlight report
- Address project issues and risks, escalating to BSST accordingly
- Report project status to BSST on a regular basis
- Oversee production of all necessary annual reports for the Strategic Investment Board

Main responsibilities:
- Monitor and support compliance with the charity's policy management framework, including SharePoint administration and documentation control.

Context of Job
AFK is a national charity helping young disabled people develop their independence and find employment. Our vision is a world where all people living with a disability get to lead the life they choose. As part of this we provide bespoke employment skills training and organise work placements across North London.
At a national level, we provide mobility equipment not available on the NHS for disabled children and young people up to the age of 25. The Advocacy and Mobility Services Manager leads this service.
Overall Job Purpose
To develop and manage AFK’s Mobility Service including overseeing the progress of funding applications for mobility equipment, managing the waiting list and ensuring a quality service to our beneficiaries. The Advocacy and Mobility Services Manager will be responsible for providing advocacy support, enabling applicants to secure equipment from statutory services, where appropriate. They will also manage the maintenance and reallocation of AFK-owned powerchairs.
Working Conditions
The post is 21 or 28 hours a week, normally between 9am and 5pm. (We are Hybrid working organisation with 1 core day in the office and 2-3 days working from home, with core hours between 10am and 4pm).
The post holder may be expected to work some evenings and weekends as required by the job.

Line Manager to the Fundraising and Mobility Officer
Close working relationships with mobility equipment suppliers
On a day-to-day basis there will be regular contact with beneficiaries and their families, mobility equipment suppliers and health professionals, as well as Service Delivery and Fundraising Managers.
On-going contact with grant giving organisations and associated bodies.
Principal Responsibilities
1. To develop policies to support the direction of AFK’s Mobility Services, in relation to criteria for funding equipment, guidance on managing the waiting lists and the provision of loaned/ beneficiary owned equipment etc.
2. To identify applicants for mobility funding who could access statutory funds. To provide advocacy support to those families including submitting formal letters of complaint to NHS Trusts and/or taking legal advice. To monitor savings to the Mobility budget, as a direct result of advocacy intervention.
3. To ensure the mobility equipment budget is spent appropriately by developing and implementing funding criteria, negotiating competitive rates with suppliers, encouraging families to consider a range of options for high end equipment and ensuring statutory services support funding where appropriate.
4. To line manage the Fundraising and Mobility Officer to enable her/him to progress applications for mobility grants, from initial enquiry to order and delivery of equipment.
5. To provide AFK’s Fundraising and Communications teams with data and feedback from families and to identify potential case studies.
6. To support selected applicants with individual fundraising, including applying to Trusts and charities and writing to businesses.
7. To monitor the funds raised by AFK’s individual fundraising activity.
8. To keep abreast of changes in the field for example: developments among competitors and pricing in the market; progress of the NHS England wheelchair campaign; and changes to Clinical Commissioning Groups’ criteria.
9. To provide families with information to enable them to make a decision about whether to apply for funding.
10. To liaise with other grant giving charities to keep up-to-date with changes in the field and to ensure part funding is provided effectively.
11. To ensure AFK’s equipment grant application form is clear and up-to-date and that the process is managed in a timely and efficient way.
12. To oversee the development and maintenance of systems for recording the grant application process.
13. To manage the maintenance and repair of loaned powerchairs, developing procedures for reallocating chairs and/or passing ownership on to beneficiaries.
14. To supervise the Fundraising and Mobility Officer to develop systems for monitoring and reporting on maintenance expenditure.
15. To undertake other relevant responsibilities as required by the Executive Director of Services.

Key Responsibilities:
- Set the overall strategy, vision and annual objectives for the organisation, alongside the Board of Trustees.

- Manage key strategic partnerships, relationships and donors on an ongoing basis to ensure income, volunteer and referral pipelines are maintained to optimise the organisation’s impact.

- Provide regular performance and progress reports to the board as requested and ensure the charity is compliant with all HSUK policies and procedures.

Titchwell Marsh is a wetland site abundant in a variety of wildlife including passage and migrant birds. In addition, it is known for other biodiversity including invertebrates and small mammals. In addition to being a hot spot for tens of thousands of waders, it is also an important site for ground nesting birds and is part of a conservation project to protect nesting Ringed Plovers.

The Role
