Job description

Real is about to launch our new employment support project for disabled people and employers in Tower Hamlets. We are recruiting an Advice Coordinator to oversee and deliver this new service, for which we have three years’ funding.

Our “NOW and THEN” project is designed to help employers become more inclusive of disabled people as workers and therefore increase the employment rate of local disabled people. The project works through two parallel networks:

  • THEN (Tower Hamlets’ Employers Network) - a collection of local employers looking to improve the way they support and attract disabled people in the workplace; and
  • NOW (Network of Workers) - disabled people currently in work or those seeking employment, who want to help employers improve.

The projects aim is more disabled people accessing and thriving in work experience and employment opportunities, as Tower Hamlets employers become more inclusive of disabled people and more aware of how to support them.  This is an exciting opportunity to work for the only pan-disability, user-led organisation in Tower Hamlets; helping us to provide remarkable services to, and outcomes for, disabled people in the borough.

This role requires a motivated, person-centred individual who is able to lead and inspire other staff and members of the public to collaborate to deliver this specialised advice service. You will be expected to have a good understanding of, and existing experience in, employment support for disabled people. You will be responsible for ensuring that project aims are achieved and all of Real’s activities contribute to Real’s vision, mission and strategic objectives.  You will line manage a Senior Adviser (already in post) who will also work on the project alongside you.

Real is proud of its principles of valuing everyone and never discriminating. As a user-led organisation of local disabled people we particularly welcome applicants who are disabled or who live in Tower Hamlets.

Why you should work for Real

  • We are a dynamic, growing third sector organisation and a user-led organisation of disabled people. We are firmly driven by our principles and ethos.
  • We are a progressive organisation, constantly looking to work more effectively. But this does not mean we abandon our principles.
  • We have a good reputation with our funders and our clients, and support approximately 1000 people in the community each year.
  • We actively embrace diversity in all forms. Our clients relate to us more because we reflect their reality.
  • We consider disability in our employees an asset.
  • There is a great atmosphere and good staff morale.
  • In a number of areas we are at the forefront of being part of an evolving and developing third sector in Tower Hamlets.
