It’s time for our quarterly insights, with the latest facts and figures from the labour market. This update is based on the jobs posted on CharityJob during July–September 2024.
Candidate demand for jobs
The average number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button for a job increased by 52% year-on-year, and 12% compared to the previous quarter.
We saw the average number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button increase steadily throughout the quarter until reaching a peak for the year in September.
Candidate numbers
New candidate registrations continue to outperform both 2022 and 2023. The number of new registrations in the last quarter was 22% higher than the same period last year and 11% higher than the previous quarter of this year. In the next quarter, we expect numbers to decrease as we move into the festive season.
The number of active candidates on our site increased by 7% from the previous quarter of this year and 6% year-on-year. This is due to our increased activity in sourcing candidates via social channels, as well as the recruiter-driven market, where there are more active candidates and fewer jobs being posted. This results in an increase in candidate demand, which is what we’ve been seeing.
Number of jobs posted
The number of jobs posted on our site decreased by 12% year-on-year and continues to fall below both 2022 and 2023 levels. Again, this reflects ONS data that the UK market has shifted towards being more recruiter-led, with the number of job vacancies decreasing and candidate demand increasing.
In the final quarter of 2024, we expect a further decrease in the number of jobs posted, as recruiters reduce activity in the lead up to Christmas.
Job categories
The category with the highest number of jobs available this quarter was ‘Fundraising’, with almost 2,500 jobs posted. However, demand for fundraising roles was 13% lower than the overall demand for jobs, with 33 clicks on ‘Apply’ for fundraising jobs, compared to 38 clicks on ‘Apply’ for all jobs.
